More changes on VersionTracker.com

Submitted by Rick on Fri, 2007-06-08 15:16.

Last night, we threw the switch on our latest site enhancements. Most of the updates are behind the scenes, and are designed to improve overall site performance.

There are some visual changes, however. The big one is that we reduced the number of columns on the Today’s Updates page from three to two. It’s a small change, but we think it helps the page breathe a bit, and makes the modules on the right side more readable. It also let us do things like put the download size in the Updates Watch module, or the number of downloads in the Top Downloads module.

iPhone Atlas debuts

Since its announcement back in January, the iPhone has captured the fancy of quite a few people, and we have to say that we’re pretty keen on it as well.

So late last week, we quietly launched iPhone Atlas, a blog and site centered around the iPhone. Run by our esteemed editor at MacFixIt, Ben Wilson, iPhone Atlas is intended to be a resource and a guide for the vast numbers (if you believe the hype) of soon-to-be iPhone owners. As Ben noted in his announcement, the iPhone is a new platform, and one that fits within our mission of providing information that helps you become more efficient at using technology, and we're pretty darn excited about this project.

Mac Pilot now bundled with VersionTracker Pro

Starting today, if you purchase a new subscription to VersionTracker Pro for the Mac - or if you renew your existing subscription - we’ll throw in a free copy of Koingo Software’s Mac Pilot.

Mac Pilot is a cool utility that gives you one-click access to more than 300 settings and features buried within Mac OS X, turning you into the ultimate power geek. With Mac Pilot, you can do things like clear your caches to grab back disk space; have your screen saver act as your desktop background; disable your start-up sound; and change the text of your login screen - all from a single console. And, you don’t have to know anything about Terminal or those “Unix underpinnings” that your nerdy friends talk about.

Good-bye, interstitials, hello 1-click downloads!

At VersionTracker, we try very hard to listen to the comments—good and bad—that we get from you. We’re not perfect, and we understand that there are always parts of VT.com that could be better, so we continue to work behind the scenes to improve all aspects of the site.

Over the past few months, we have launched quite a few features and enhancements on VersionTracker.com, largely a result of feedback we have gotten from you. We’ve expanded the product categories, rolled out a streamlined header and faster search capabilities, and added support for the latest operating system versions from both Apple (Leopard) and Microsoft (Vista).
