Adobe Reader 6.0 (Mac OS X)

Amazingly worthless...

If Adobe Reader is already open, double-clicking a pdf in the finder does NOT open it in reader. It activates Adobe Reader, but the darn application never opens the file. If I try to open the file via Reader's "Open" dialog box, some never-ending cycle of "Missing Icon Resource" error messages forces me to force-quit. Amazingly bad. And still no internet plug-in. And it displays ad text in the top right of the screen. [alert admin]

Kensington MouseWorks OS X 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Just great! Thanks…

so much kensington for supporting all your mice under OS X, even the ADB ones. (This version fixed all other ADB problems I've had!) riveteck -- sack up man! You don't even need the drivers for normal USB operation! It's almost like you've never had to down;load the latest drivers before. Let me tell you that this is STANDARD PRACTICE. Or maybe you'd rather they included an old beta version of the drivers in your box -- AND YOU WOULD STILL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THESE NEWEST DRIVERS! At least they (a) make the drivers available, (b) update them frequently, and (c) aren't like epson, which does neither a nor b, plus charges you $4 for the X version of their scanner drivers. Get a clue man. Your idiot-problem doesn't deserve a one-star review. [alert admin]

osXigen 1.2b1 (Mac OS X)

I strongly disagree…

with you Jmontiero. You should never enable logging to this level in any product you widly distribute, beta or not. If you think this level of logging needs to be available to anyone who downloads it (to help you track down problems) then for gods sake make it OPTIONAL, and off by default. Just saying "its a beta" is NO excuse for such intentionally bad behavior of a program. Your users in general don't need the logging. Turn the logging on for your personal testing builds, but it should never be enabled by default on builds posted to versiontracker. [alert admin]

osXigen 1.2b1 (Mac OS X)

I'm not going…

to rate this down because it is a beta, but there are some big problems here. BIG PROBLEM #1: It spews line after line of garbage into the system log files every second it is active. Leaving this program on for a few days might result in hundereds of megabytes of log files detailing every little thing this program does. BIGGER PROBLEM 2: When you log into a ftp site, this program logs the site address AND YOUR PASSWORD to the system logs in clear text, which are readable to every user on the machine. This is a HUGE NO-NO. Nobody using a mult-user setup should use this program. And everybody else should be careful about it. [alert admin]

Toast Titanium 5.1.2 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

You're wrong, Mr.…

L(ame). Toast was in the apps folder and the problem still occured. Plus, Installer Vise (which powers toast installer) DOESN'T HAVE THESE PROBLEMS like the Apple's Installer. Did you notice the "searching hard drive" bar during the install? I finally had to reboot into 9 to update. Running installer in classic generated the same error, just later into the install. Toast Titanium 5.1.2 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

I get this…

error too. Also, when I log in as "root" or open the updater with "pseudo" i get the error message "You need Administrator or higher privilidges to run this updater." Err ... that's why I ran it as *root*! [alert admin]

Wonderful! A good…

bug-fix to a great implementation of Xfree86. Contrary to benjk's experience, installing X windows is easy -- XDarwin is all precompiled, and you can easily download the precomplied X11 distribution from Xfree86.org, following their very clear directions. Repeat: *No Compiling necesssary!* [alert admin]

OroborOSX 0.75a2 (Mac OS X)

unixman, you've already…

added your review. Just because nobody agrees with you doesn't mean you should further lower OroborOSX's rating. I give it four stars, (some parts are still clunky -- like the interleaving script -- this should be integrated into OroborOSX), plus one star to make up for the fact that unixman is an idiot. Seriously, unixman, what are you thinking -- should Adrian go and port EVERY SINGLE *NIX APP out there to OS X? Orshould he akesoething that makes *any * X11 app tolerable to use? Hmm, which would help more people? Tilting at windmills or making a nice *addition* to OS X? Not to mention that X11/OroborOSX supports remote windowing, which AQUA DOES NOT. So there's a compelling feature that this brings to OS X. Get real, Unixman. Thanks for the great work Adrian -- this app is wonderful. [alert admin]

Python 2.1 (Mac OS X)

To get the…

man page: either move the python man page from /usr/local/man to /usr/shar/man, or add the former to your manpath. [alert admin]
