FruitMenu 3.7.3 (Mac OS X)

Unsanity updates for Snow Leopard are supposed to be in work

The Unsanity Blog entry for Oct 6, 2009, says they are developing updates for FruitMenu and their other haxies. I hope they come out a little faster than the updates for Leopard did. I never found an alternative to Fruit Menu that I liked better in the year between Apple's OS X 10.5 release in 2007 and Unsanity's release of Fruit Menu 3.7.1 in August 2008. At least my old iMac G5 is unaffected! [alert admin]

1Password 2.9.27 (Mac OS X)

Worth Waiting for Snow Leopard Compatibility

Apparently the OS 10.6 release at the end of August was quicker than Agile anticipated and 1Password 3, required for 10.6, isn't quite ready for prime time. Agile's website provides an unsupported kluge for running 1Password 2 on 10.6 but I'm going to hold up on the new OS update until 1Password 3 has been out for awhile and its compatibility is proven. I found out the hard way how indispensable 1Password is when a Safari update awhile back broke it for a few days. [alert admin]

ChronoSync 4.0 (Mac OS X)

Definitely a Five Star Product!

I've been using Chronosync for several years now and can't live without it. It keeps my various backups and my Macbook quickly and easily synchronized in the most intuitive manner I've seen. You can't beat the company's customer focus either. I had a little problem getting version 4 to accept my license key and Econ tech support got me up and running immediately. The new interface is an attractive update and the speed bump is quite noticeable, not that it was slow before. Thank you, Econ Technologies, from a long-time, completely satisfied customer! FruitMenu 3.7b2 (Mac OS X)

Great having this Haxie back

When OS 10.5 broke the Unsanity Haxies, I figured I would keep my system clean and haxie-free. I found another application launcher but started to really miss Fruitmenu. The other launcher required a hotkey and two clicks to launch an application and was nowhere near as intuitive. I thought I'd give this beta a try and have been very happy with it. It recognized my old preferences and registration and has worked flawlessly so far. These guys rock! Now if they would only update Xounds ... [alert admin]

AOL Desktop Beta 4 (Mac OS X)

AOL Webmail works fine

I seldom if ever use the desktop app but find that AOL webmail is very handy. I've had an AOL account for about 12 years so a lot of my contacts have that as my email address. The webapp appearance is attractive and the site behavior is nice and crisp (especially on an Intel Dual Core). Excellent spam filters. Plus it's free. I'll probably download the client when it's released but no big hurry. [alert admin]

1Password 2.5 (Mac OS X)

Working great, well worth the price

I was skeptical about 1Password when I tried it out about a year ago but after a short time I found it was something I couldn't live without. The credit card wallet added in this version is a nice added touch. Upgrading to version 2.5 has been transparent to this user so far and the developers seem to be very responsive to bug reports. This is a winner. [alert admin]

ChronoSync 3.3.5 (Mac OS X)

No problems as usual with latest update

Latest update runs flawlessly as I've come to expect from this indispensible utility. I have used Chronosync for several years for daily backups of my Documents directory to an encrypted 2 GB flash disk and for weekly backups of Home directories on 3 networked Macs totalling about 50 GB. The company continuously improves their products and provides excellent customer support. [alert admin]

iClip 4 (Mac OS X)

Beautiful interface & smooth operation

The functionality of this little gem is so intuitive that I quickly couldn't do without it. The new interface is pretty and the application runs perhaps a little faster and smoother than before. No brainer upgrade! [alert admin]

iMac (late 2007) won't remain in Sleep Mode

I seem to be having the opposite problem with OS 10.5.7. My iMac G5 PPC has reverted to deep sleep mode where I have to tap the power button to wake it up. Just hitting a key and moving the mouse doesn't do it anymore. Not a big deal but an annoyance. Luckily no other problems experienced so far.

Which iteration of Tiger?

Looks like Safari 3 beta, which I have on my iMac G5 and iBook G3, is what keeps the security update from installing on them. I assume the security fixes are already in Safari 3 although it would be nice if Apple clarified this. The security update installs just fine on my wife's iMac G3 which is running OS 10.4.10 and Safari 2.

Which iteration of Tiger?

The iMac G5 is running OS 10.4.10. This security update won't install on my iBook G3 also has OS 10.4.10 so I guess that's the answer. Apple websites say the security update is for 10.4.9 and higher so that's a bit confusing.
