Sente 5.6.1 (Mac OS X)
Goodbye to MS word and EndNote! ![]()

I've been using this for about four hours now to reference my NIH grant in Pages. I imported my endnote library (via XML export from EndNote and imported that into Sente -- the native import failed). Word X/EndNote X works ok on my PPC but on intel it is an impossibly sluggish combination. This does everything that I need. Searching 1120 reference database is more sluggish than EndNote, however. Application Enhancer 2.5b1 (Mac OS X)
I've used this without problems on several computers for about 5 years. Except for the projectile hemorrhagic diarrhea. [alert admin]

FruitMenu 3.7b1 (Mac OS X)
I also have been using the beta and without problems on 4 computers. I do a lot of heavy-duty scientific computational stuff, so if anything APE interfered, I would immediately ditch it forever. I have not had any problems in the 4 or 5 years I have used Fruit Menu. I got my $7 worth many times over. If they can make the grey apple blue again, that would be an extra plus. [alert admin]

iJailBreak 0.5.4 (Mac OS X)
Turned my 1.1.4 8GB iPod touch into a paper weight
I ran this thing on my 8GB iPod touch with 1.1.4 software and now I am hosed. I get the symbol to plug it into iTunes, and when I do that, I get an error dialogue box that says "iTunes could not connnect to the ipod because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000022). I've repeated the procedure but to no avail. Same thing happens when I try to follow the instructions to restore. Amy I completely hosed? [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.5.2 (Mac OS X)
Fails with "unknown error" both with installer and with command-line update. I repaired permissions (took an unusually long time) but the problem persists. Never had such a problem previously on ca. 10 computers since 2001. [alert admin]

Aqua4iTunes 3.5.0b (Mac OS X)
It seems to be a constant struggle to get Apple to live up to its own User Interface Guidelines. This really helps, but at the same time I resent having to do this just so they can recycle windoze code. I noticed they started putting ugly scrollbars into iPhoto as well. Grrr. [alert admin]

This is a handy browser to have even if you use Safari, because there are occasionally sites and forms that require a mozilla/netscape type browser (which this is). It has some nice features that Safari does not, such as the ability to choose the directory in which to save a download in each instance. [alert admin]

It turns out a mail script mail sorting rule was creating havoc. I moved this out of the way and now it works.

If upgrade is an option, and it is problematic, then there are problems with 10.5, ipso facto.

OK, now I see it is called the "syncronozation tool." I never guessed it was the command-line utility to activate the editor. You might want to make the pop-up more explicit.

THANKS. Sorry I didn't read very carefully. I also saw the plan to charge, so I apologize for the "please keep it free" stuff. I actually didn't get the prompt to install the command-line tool.

Try using Sylpheed, which uses the MH style mail. It is X11-based, but you can make it look very OS X-ish with a decent GTK+2 theme. If you have fink, install the sylpheed package and then the glossy-p package and follow the directions given for "fink describe glossy-p".

I'd urge you to consider some sort of academic licensing scheme -- like one license for a research group, rather than one per computer. From a business point of view, you should be targeting the large and largely dissatisfied pool of EndNote users.

I had my first "issue" after I think 4 years or more of using these. My library for pam authentication was clobbered by the installer. The unsanity folks said it was an Apple bug, but with 12 computers, this was a first.

I really like this editor. I gave it 5 stars. But this is a valid criticism. On a system that lacks textmate, if you navigate to a directory in your $PATH, and open that directory in the finder and double-click an executable, the executable runs (this even includes X11 executables if you have installed X11.app). This is the default system behavior. I never make use of it, but it is the…
