Chocolatier 1.0.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Can't get past the installer...
I'm on 10.5.1. I have an admin account. When I double click the installer, it displays a window saying "The installer requires admin privileges to run" and quits. I even downloaded Pseudo which allows you to run apps a root and I get the same message. Very strange...can't review! [alert admin]

FizzBall 1.01 (Mac OS X)
Unfortunately, I didn't get to test the game itself. The LOADING screen appears, and the letters LOA highlight, but nothing happens beyond that. Have to force my way out and back to the Finder. Running iMac G5/2Ghz/1.5GB RAM/10.4.8 [alert admin]

1001 1.0.5 (Mac OS X)
Caveat: I've only tried this 6 or 7 times, but each time I've hit barriers that, frankly, increase my Flickr workflow efforts rather than streamlining them. I'm on a 2GHz iMac G5 with 1.5GB RAM and only Safari running. 1001 is very sluggish. However, my main concern is it's sporadic behavior on upload. Sometimes it completes. Sometimes it stalls. Today it stalled on the first file upload and just sat there apparently on the same file for about 20 minutes before I killed it. I have to say that out of the 3 or 4 apps I've tried, JUploadr may not be the most flashy or feature-rich, but it is stable and consistent. If 1001 were to stabilize, I would certainly consider using it as my main app for this kind of thing. I do like the ability to select sets, maintain a list of tags AND read psd files and convert them to JPG on the fly (although I haven't tried that yet - that's what I was attempting today when things stalled). Calico Panorama 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Terrific for the Beginner (at least)... ![]()

[Reiterating my comments over at MU] As a beginner just starting with panoramic images, quick successes mean everything in terms of keeping momentum and not losing interest. After researching the many panorama creation workflows, tools, and applications available, I was about to lose that momentum...then I came across a reference to Calico on the Panoguide forums. I downloaded the demo, hit LOAD to import 10 images, hit ALIGN, and within a couple of minutes had a stiched panorama. Hitting MAKE and a few minutes later I had a QTVR image I could navigate. Very impressive. Of course, I might evolve to something more 'pro' at a later stage, but the key point (esp for the beginner) is the simplicity and the excellent results. This has boosted my interest and helped me maintain momentum...I'm on a roll now. Very impressed. [alert admin]

Star 1.2 (Mac OS X)
Waiting for download to become available
It's funny, I probably have all the major productivity apps I need, but I'm constantly on the lookout for new apps that squeeze that extra little bit and make life just a bit more automated and efficient. Mental I guess.. I'm currently using Synergy as my iTunes remote and I have function key combos setup to rate songs as they're playing...ALT-CMD-1 for 1-star, ALT-CMD-2, etc... However, still looking forward to trying this out... [alert admin]

Saft 8.2.7 (Mac OS X)
Same 'space.gif' problem exists...
Per my feedback below from an earlier version, still having this problem with 8.2.7. Unfortunately, it manifests itself in certain other apps that provide links that launch in Safari, such as the auction listing search app AuctionSieve. Great app, but when I click on the "View" link in AuctionSieve, it feeds the URL to Safari but it ends up as file:///Library/InputManagers/Saft/Saft.bundle/Contents/Resources/space.gif and goes nowhere. ` REALLY need to get this fixed !!! Otherwise, Saft is marvelous... [alert admin]

Saft 8.2.1 (Mac OS X)
Hao Li, I couldn't find any other way of reporting an issue from your web site, so I thought I'd post here and see if you respond. Occasionally I click on a URL and instead of getting the real target page, I end up at: file:///Library/InputManagers/Saft/Saft.bundle/Contents/Resources/space.gif Is there a fix/config change to prevent this? Thanks Tony. [alert admin]

eyeHide 1.5 (Mac OS X)
Unfortunately, EyeHide doesn't behave well with a target folder that has a space in the path (even if the target folder itself does NOT contain a space in the name). EyeHide gets confused and even though it creates the hidden folder, it says that there is a problem, and thinks it has not created the folder. So when you try and create the same one again, it complains saying that it already exists. I think it should be a simple fix, but I guess I'm a little surprised given that what the app is trying to do is pretty straight forward and the scope of testing such an app should be quite small - but clearly wasn't tested for variations of path names. Xfolders 0.7.1 (Mac OS X)
Unfortunately, not stable for me. ![]()

I gotta say, brave attempt. Finder alternatives are not easy territory. I copied the application from the dmg to my hard drive and ran it from there. After navigating to the top folder level, I right clicked on the mounted Xfolders image and selected Eject...Xfolders displayed an error. I then went into Finder and ejected it with no problems. Going back to Xfolders, I double-clicked a regular folder and the application just crashed. This is repeatable. I've used a few other Finder alternatives before with mixed results and I guess I just don't have patience any more. Speed and stability are usually the culprits even before I get to functionality. Also, I generally find that there are just too many Finder dependencies and hooks. Even when I Quit the Finder and try to standardize on an alternative, something will launch it back up again and it's a pain to float between two different ones. I guess speed is partially a factor of the Finder having lower level hooks into the microkernel...you just can't beat that. Nice attempt. I'll keep an eye on this since I like its simplicity. In my enthusiasm, I commented incorrectly. Calico does NOT generate QTVR; just the JPG panoramic image. QTVR requires other tools such as CubicConverter. I stand by my original ratings, however, based on what Calico is designed to do.

I should pay more attention. There is a "remove" button that allows you to move a widget to the trash. The application even detects Trashed widgets and shows them with a gray flag and gray-italic font. Nice.

This is a very nice little app. Wish it had a little more manipulation in addition to its main function of being informational (e.g., ability to delete widgets or move from global to user library). Otherwise very nice. Re: the flags - just pull up the Help screen: "If twins are detected, they are labeled red. If disabled, either renamed or trashed widgets, they are labeled light in gray and italic letters with an gray indicator"…

Your comments would hold more weight if you could be more specific as to why it "wins hands down". I too have tried a number of launchers and frankly, the things you identify as (presumably) the value are common features of most of them. Take QuickSilver or Butler. Hotkey...type 2 or 3 letters...no menu if you don't want... It would help if you could offer unique differences that make this product stand out above the rest.
