Default Folder X 4.3.2 (Mac OS X)
Good product but one very bad thing.... ![]()

So Default Folder works great. I'm a registered user and recommend it. That being said, the downside is that they frequently want you to update their product, and this is the type of thing you want to stay on top of. Updates are complicated and cumbersome. You click "yes I want to download," then go to their web page and have to hunt for the small download link on their odd web page, then download the installer, then run the installer, click OK, then you have to log out and in to have it take effect. This happens frequently enough. They could make it easier and I have asked and they acknowledge this is something they could improve but they cannot be bothered to do it yet. Because of this thing, I give it 3 stars, as it is a frequent and significant annoyance they could fix but don't. [alert admin]

OmniWeb 5.5.1 (Mac OS X)
The current version and the last few have crashed a lot for me. I have sent numerous bug reports (they have an excellent bug reporting mechanism). I cannot recommend this software until they make it more stable. If it were stable, it would be great. In particular, the ability to synchronize bookmarks using .Mac works pretty well and is the only browser I know that does so. [alert admin]

no documentation and no support?
I could not find anywhere a document explaining how to use this software; I wrote for help but received no reply from the authors. :-( [alert admin]

I was an early adopter, and the developer worked quickly with me to get this thing working well with my MacBook. It works great now. [alert admin]

Pros: It works as advertised, definitely helpful if you are doing ear training. Plus, it's the only ear training software I've found for Palm OS. :-) Biggest problem: It does not have a volume control. The tones are all very ugly and loudish. Overall, though, its very useful to me. [alert admin]

MoRU 1.3 (Mac OS X)
try NotLight first -- it's free!
Before paying money for this, try NotLight. Might meet your needs. Also look at HoudahSpot. [alert admin]

Apple Backup 3.1 (Mac OS X)
Do not rely on this. I had the experience of having a disk fail recently. "luckily," I had been backed up, albeit from a bad disk. This software does not attempt to do any integrity checking apparently, because while I have been able to restore some of what I backed up, it is extremely slow and keeps quitting at random places complaining that the archive is corrupt. This is really bad software. Again, do not rely on this software to make reliable backups. I should not have put my trust in it. Some work I had done is gone forever. Nothing too important, but still words to the wise. Get Retrospect or something. BTW, even if it were reliable, it's still a bit awkward to use. [alert admin]

Amazing Slow Downer 2.8.3 (Mac OS X)
I use it all the time. It's not fancy, but it does the job and the user interface is perfect. You drag a song in, slow it down, speed it up or change its pitch, then save it as mp3, aiff, etc. Perfect for my needs as a musician. I use it to slow down music for practice, and to transpose music. [alert admin]

Finale 2006d (Mac OS X)
Like the above poster, who got modded down for some weird reason, I find the work flow in Finale to be less natural than Sibelius. Sibelius is more "mac-like," in that it forgives errors and feels like it is working with you instead of against you. Finale PrintMusic, which presumably has an interface very similar to the pro but less features, fights me every step of the way, particularly if I make an error, it wont' let you delete just one note in a measure and replace it with some other note with a different duration. For example, if you type a couple of quarter notes, then decide to change the first one to an eight note, as far as I can tell, you have to delete the whole measure. This drives me crazy, as I make lots of typos. Also, the documentation is rather poorly organized. It's nice and cheap, though, so if you're patient, it's perfectly usable and apparently the expensive version has some nice features. But for my purpose, which is cranking out audio files of arrangements to practice with, it's way too clunky. [alert admin]

You might try ripping the content with HandBrake and then use Toast on the result. Just a thought. Don't know if it will work.

I have found that most banks "support" mac in a basic way. True, you cannot easily track stock transactions that I have noticed, in particular with Fidelity I can't seem to get useful stuff for my 403b, but the basic account statement downloads from my credit unions and credit cards work fine.

It doesn't look basically the same. It is IDENTICAL. I cannot find a single difference from the previous version. Weird. It sucks being a Mac user sometimes! :-(
