Throttled Pro 1.1.4 (Mac OS X)
developer lurks & snipes comments
This dude has a problem even with my "pathetic" reviews of OTHER software! Till I realized it's the developer bashing those who leave negatives! Now that's funny - team this guy up with that eLister freakizoid who was banned from versiontracker. Should I apologize for my glowing 5-star reviews for Transmit, Photo Retouch Pro, Firefox, CPU Director...? When in my informed opinion Throttled IS right down there with Stuffit and Windows Media Player? No lie, I really think that. Really. [alert admin]

Throttled Pro 1.1.4 (Mac OS X)
OK, I've tried this thing on and off for years and after extensive testing with different configurations I have finally reached a definitive conclusion: it doesn't do anything, and in fact can be demonstrated to actually slow down connections. Don't waste your time or money. [alert admin]

Firefox 1.5 (Mac OS X)
Mean, clean browsing machine! Thanks to all the developers who've donated their time for this great work of software. Smooth scrolling works fine. [alert admin]

StuffIt Expander 10.0 (Mac OS X)
Astoundingly slow, even in it's own format. [alert admin]

Windows Media Player 9.0 (Mac OS X)
I'm so sick of things that simply won't work on a Mac, for one reason or another. No one wants to hear it, but it's true. This piece of ***** is only one pathetic example. I don't even bother with .wmv files any more, because most simply will not play on a Mac. Then try to watch a clip with the plug-in and find that that content is not compatible either, except in broken fragments. (Of course, it was only an obscure, back-room, fly-by-night, hack-job website called Comedy Central, so no big deal). All I want is for stuff to work -- why is that too much to ask for? (And no, I haven't installed or configured wrong, and I'm aware CC violates industry standards, Windows sucks, MS sabotages Mac versions etc.). [alert admin]

PowerLogix CPU Director 2.1b1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
I have used this FREE utility for years. Now kindly updated for 10.4.2, CPU Director works flawlessly. On my slot-load iMac, upping the L2 cache ratio one notch adds a nice zip (any more is too fast for this machine and will eventually result in a kernal panic). Nice little tweak for an older Mac. Apple Mac OS X 10.4.2 (Mac OS X)
If it was merely visionary to supplant Find with a system-wide gadget that doesn't really find files anymore, managing to hose the system clock in the process is true innovative genius. Perhaps they will both be rolled into the .Mac subscription in a future update? [alert admin]

PhotoRetouch Pro 4.0.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
I've just tried this demo, and from the point of view of someone endlessly struggling to correct digital photos for acceptable screen display, a single BinusScan process in PhotoRetouch is like 17 filters in Photoshop. Granted, I'm only using 0.01% of the functionality of either app, but then again I am only really interested in EASY color/contrast/saturation correction -- is that too much to ask for? -- and for this purpose alone, PhotoRetouch makes Photoshop look like last year's shareware [alert admin]

iSale 1.6.1 (Mac OS X)
Let me get this straight, iSale allows for no default image host setting, other than .Mac or eBay itself? WTF? [alert admin]

Regarding the developer that lurks and snipes comments.
I gather 2 unassailable sources of expertise in the highly professionalized fields of rudimentary network optimization and commentary upon software commentary: you lurk and bash comments but are not the developer; you hang out in bars as a profession. I'm glad the product works for you in your native milieu. For others it may not and they may even say so publicly, given a certain level of frustration at wasted time…

Odd is that you feel I should for some reason purchase software that cannot be made to work. Every year or so I give it another wing and it's always the same. I have tried dozens of configs on 3 different computers and multiple connection types over the years and thus the conclusion I reach is entirely independent of the developer's input: this is Placebo Ware, period. A small modicum of load balancing…

If smooth scrolling is your sole criterion to rate Firefox as substandard, then you are an idiot.

Sorry to report it but I've had serious problems with Transmit
Your "serious problem" with this app is having to reset your preferences? Yikes. What would be a "minor" problem, having to open the Applications folder to launch it?

Something seems fishy here . . .
This guy's an idiot. This is not a review, which requires you know something of which you speak. All CPU Director does is enable direct access to several specific CPU settings not ordinarily accessible. It either either loads or it doesn't, like a preference pane. The adjusted settings either have a noticeable impact or they don't. On my slot-load iMac, upping the L2 cache ratio one notch adds a nice zip…

Works great, fine support, updates forthcoming as eBay changes
Dude, I don't need a dialogue box for absolutely every single mouse click I make. And NO ONE revises their default footer comments for every single listing. Oh, and please make the cursor default to the title box when starting a new listing -- commonsense, no? etc.

It's not a question, it's an observation based on experience. Mac user says a good third to half of movie files won't even play on a Mac, other Mac users say either "You don't know how" or "You're a PC user".......WTF

Ok, here it is in retard time : A good half of all movie files of all types & codecs simply will not play on a Mac -- QT, VLC, MPlayer or what have you. It's a simple statement of fact based on years of experience -- not my own imcompetence or some failure to have mastered the search function of Version Tracker. Your reference to market forces and alien technologies…
