IP Reporter 2.0.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Still nice but unsupported

This a great little piece of software that does what it says and other than the need to lock the prefs file it runs quite well. Anyone curious about updates though should know that after looking through the developer's sites and dead links, etc. the developer actually says, "... Some of them will no longer be updated, but are here for reference and download purposes." IP reporter is listed as one of these so don't anyone hold their breath. He is still collecting $5 for it though (worth it too, even unsupported). [alert admin]

You Control: Desktops 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Good but needs improvement

I've tried this app for the demo period and will buy it now (especially since the price is currently 1/3 of the usual price). What I want to see though is the ability to assign certain apps to certain desktops so that if the app isn't already open, I can open it and it will open on the appropriate desktop and not the current one. Currently what it does is to open any app in whatever desktop you are in at the time. The only time I want Safari (for instance) to show up out of it's desktop is when I manually drag the Safari window to another desktop. Also, the individual desktops remain open whether or not the software you want to show on it is open or not. So if I have one app open, I still have 8 or so windows to flip through. As well, my menubar is so crowded with Airport and battery and clock and such that the YC menubar rarely ever shows at all. I need switching in the dock or a custom shortcut to switch to each individual desktop. There is also nothing anywhere on screen (except possibly the menubar items that won't show up for lack of space) that tells what desktop is the current one so I must switch back and forth to see where I am because I don't want to open an app in the wrong desktop... It had one bug of multiplying one app from one desktop to all of them and I had to quit the app and restart it in the correct desktop. If it included all of these features and had no bugs, I would easily give it 5 stars. Still it's a good start and I recommend it and hope that my registration money will aid them in improving and maturing this promising app. [alert admin]

Tex-Edit Plus 4.6.9 (Mac OS X)

more software should be like this

I've been a registered user for almost ten years. It was and remains a paramount example of everything thats good and nothing that's bad about shareware. His support is and has been constant. TE+ has been kept trim. The price has remained reasonable. Look at the score... The only thing I'd like to see is an even skinnier version with no bells and whistles and the ability to accept any open source plugins with just what the user wants to add. [alert admin]

Used to be…

a great program. No updates in a LONG time. Proprietary. Still charging money for a program whose development has stagnated. No OS X ver. Download doesn't work. No comp to telephone. No compatibility w/ other comp-phone-vid-conf software or new picture cel phones, etc. STAGNATION... Was Clearphone bought out by a competitor or something? Check out Bob's shameless plug with five stars... Sad. [alert admin]

You have to…

"Wake" the other computer to access the other computer without the 256 colors message. This is something that Apple needs to fix as it is not obvious, i.e. a screen that is asleep is not set to 256 colors... This software works reasonably well on fast machines but is a bit crash happy and needs a few bug fixes, speed improvements and feature enhancements to make it more worthwhile than Timbuktu Pro such that I don't have to use T2P anymore. The user interface is better than T2P though. [alert admin]

Used to run…

it in OS 9. Then ran it in OS X and 9. Now running in OS X only. Not only have all of my attachments remained usable, v4 even fixed a problem that I caused long ago when I renamed my attachments folder. PM4 has its caveats but I have seen no other program that does all of what this one does (Applescript, IMAP [yes IMAP], spell checking, html, self repairing via cmd-opt at startup, and more attention to detail with so much less fat than the big email programs). The caveats have been minor over the years and slowly but surely ctm has been addressing them. This has been one of those great, rare shareware programs that makes a joke of the name 'Commercial'. Four stars for a great program, one held back for room to improve it still. [alert admin]

Excalibur 4.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Great software but…

needs to work in 10.2. Currently I have to click on it to get it to function. Mildly irritating. Please update. [alert admin]

LogOut 0.1 (Mac OS X)

Very nice. I'm…

surprised Apple doesn't have some sort of automatic logout built into OS X for security purposes, etc. The only part that I'd like to see added is the ability to automatically save any unsaved, open documents to a specified folder prior to logging out. For those who forget to save their work. `'-) [alert admin]

Amorphium Pro 1.2 (Mac OS 9)

Fun, but hasn't…

been very usefull for what I need (precision). Awaiting MacOS X version and the ability to be precise. Maybe hitting the option key could bring up a precision dialog. Great price and speed compared to other 3d programs. Nice looking too. Also the download link is bad. One needs to go to the dev. Web site. [alert admin]

Applescript

I have the exact same issue with children's software and it's peculiar need for microsized resolutions. Could you post the applescript that you made to activate cscreen when the kids software quit? Thanks.
