Apple AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite & Snow 4.2.5 (Mac OS X)

Doesn't work on Intel MPB running 10.5.2

Doesn't work on Intel MPB running 10.5.2, but it does work with 10.4.11 on a G4 Powerbook... ten again, the old version worked fine on the Powerbook. This doesn't solve the problem of configuring an old base station on a new 10.5 Intel Mac. What a waste. [alert admin]

Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Illustrator and CS3 suite working fine...

I'm not sure why Illustrator CS3 is ranked so poorly here... I've been using it without a problem. Yes, there were some headaches with the original installation, but it all seems to be working fine now. [alert admin]

iBiz 3.1.9 (Mac OS X)

If iBiz is crashing, read this...

Version 3 of iBiz is a bit different from version 2, but I thoroughly enjoy the changes, especially the new Billing status tab. I did run into one glitch though, as did some others who have complained of frequent crashing. The new auto-sync function in iBiz 3.1.9 (syncs calendar event data with iCal) should not be used concurrently with automatic synchronization in iSync. If iSync happens to be synchronizing when iBiz auto-sync kicks in, iBiz will promptly and unexpectedly quit. The simple solution is to not use the auto-sync setting in iBiz. You can still sync by selecting "Fast Sync" in iBiz... just be sure iSync isn't running at the same time. If you set iSync to show its Menu Bar Item, it is easy to tell when iSync is busy and thus avoid the conflict with iBiz. Cheers, ~b [alert admin]

Intuit Quicken 2007 R2 (Mac OS X)

New Problem...

In Leopard, Quicken 2007 R2 will not allow me to create a new online-enabled Liability (loan) account. Upon double-clicking the QFX, it asks to create a new account for use with the online data, I click okay, and it does absolutely nothing. No new account, no downloading, nothing. This software just gets worse and worse, day by day. [alert admin]

Intuit Quicken 2006 R6 (Mac OS X)

More money, less features.

Intuit, the maker of Quicken, has apparently discontinued a feature in all versions of Quicken-- their News Alert service... little clickable icons next to your tracked securities that link to articles concerning your specific stocks. There is a discussion thread at the Quicken website with many unhappy customers... customers who used this feature who are now being ignored. This "outage" occurred in the past and was later restored, but now it appears to be permanently offline since it has not been working since before May of this year. Intuit's response has been "we're working on it", "we are very sorry" and that's it. Nothing more. The service is still offline as of today, Nov. 10th, 2007. I would post several email responses from Intuit's support representatives, but it would only be a waste of space as they are singularly un-helpful. Intuit has the worst customer support representatives I have encountered... all workers in India who speak English, but clearly don't understand (or don't want to understand) the problems you are trying to communicate. They are extremely polite, but completely useless. You have been warned. [alert admin]

Amadeus II 3.8.7 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Long time user... still happy, best noise filtering

As a long time user, I have been and continue to be a very happy user. I will be upgrading to the Pro version for my new Intel-based Macs. This is an excellent product with a long history of positive reviews. It is unfortunate that some recent buyers were not offered a better upgrade price to the Pro version. [alert admin]

Apple AirPort Extreme 802.11n 7.2.1 (Mac OS X)

Upgrade worked without a hitch... all good.

Well, count me as one of the users that had absolutely no problem with this upgrade. All went smooth. I was a bit concerned after reading the couple posts where people said they had problems, so I made sure to back-up my settings using "Save a copy as..." under the File menu before upgrading the firmware to 7.2.1. Fortunately, after a quick download and then upload of the firmware to the base station, the device restarted on its own and all was working fine. I've used the Belkin Pre-N AP in the past... this Apple device is much more stable and works without a hitch. [alert admin]

Intuit Quicken 2007 R2 (Mac OS X)

By far, cosistently the worst Mac software...

This software has always been buggy. Every time Intuit comes out with a new version, I have high hopes that they will address the long standing and major problems with this software. Alas, after many years and numerous "upgrades" this software has yet to function properly in some very basic tasks. This is a financial/accounting program, yet IT CANNOT CALCULATE PROPERLY. Numerous reports over the years state how Quicken improperly calculates or improperly displays basic information such as the amount of shares or the current value of shares in a portfolio. The concept and interface of Quicken is wonderful, unfortunately the reliability of its calculations is horrible. The only reason it is still around is that nobody has bothered to create anything on par with the functionality that it promises. When a true competitor emerges, Quicken will die the quick death of other application leaders that for too long ignored their user base... Quark Xpress comes to mind. Please, somebody develop a software application to compete with Quicken. We need easy check balance registers, online download support, portfolio management, etc. without all the bugs. [alert admin]

APC Powerchute 1.3.4 (Mac OS X)

NOT NEEDED FOR OS X! FUNCTION IS BUILT-IN.

Um, people... no need to blast this software. Just don't install it; it is not necessary. OS X supports APC UPS products natively without any additional software. Just plug the USB cable in your mac (and the other end into the proper port on the UPS) and check the built-in Energy Saver control panel in your System Preferences. You will find all the automated shut-down controls automatically appear when the USB cable from the UPS is plugged in. APC makes great UPS devices and Apple supports them without any additional software installation. APC should just put a note on the PowerChute software disk and tell people that Apple already includes PowerChute functionality in the Energy Saver control panel in OS X, so no software installation is necessary. Intuit Quicken 2006 R6 (Mac OS X)

Missing News Article icons...

Is it just me, or is the News alert function in the investment section suddenly broken? I've been using Quicken for over a decade and all of a sudden all the news blips stopped working... not a single icon has shown up next to any of my 110 stock symbols for over a week now. What gives? Permissions

10.5.x will likely never be as fast as 10.4.x since 1.5.x has added Access Control List checking in addition to the other file/folder permission checks. Here is more info about ACLs: http://www.bresink.com/osx/193281/Docs-en/ACL.html

Tired of Updates due to Greed

I like Apple, I have an iPhone, and I completely agree with the previous posts. Stop the silliness. Apple should learn from its own successful market strategies... if you make it easy and convenient enough and offer a fair value, people will buy ringtones via iTunes (just like iTunes music versus Napster). Don't try trapping us into buying ringtones only from Apple... we already paid quite a bit for the iPhone and 2-year contract.…

AWFUL

Your comment makes little sense. You went from two to five stealth ports, but you don't know if the base station supports stealth? What? Your comments seem to contradict themselves. Please clarify.

possible solution...

If you store your iTunes library on a different drive and use an alias to point iTunes to the library, try using a symbolic link instead of an alias. I've found that some programs will follow symbolic links better than aliases. There is a free Contextual Menu item that will allow the easy creation of symbolic links located here: http://seiryu.home.comcast.net/symboliclinker.html

The only app that don't obey to '-Tab' to toggle between apps

"No individual notification option..." I believe you are mistaken. Check your iChat Preferences or just Get Info on a selected buddy. As far as notes, use the notes section in Address Book... your Buddy is linked to his/her Address Book entry. iChat utilizes the AOL Instant Messenger network, Jabber and Bonjour networks, and so is compatible with most clients using these network systems.

That is completely false. While Reader does have an inline browser support feature, it still functions perfectly fine as a free-standing application.
