CrossOver 6.2 (Mac OS X)
I have been using crossover mainly to run IE since certain websites simply refuse to display correctly (if at all) with Safari or other Mac Browsers and some software for which there is simply no Mac alternative. I tried to install some "unsuported" software, of course sometimes it did not work, but then again, I was able to run some pretty crazy stuff requiring aditional installation of video codecs etc. Overall, even if I paid a licence, I would still call it somewhat "experimental" but worth being supported. This said, I think the company should seriously review their pricing and upgrade policy. According to "What's new", 6.2 is mainly a bugfix and perhaps improves performance a bit. I am still within 6 months of purchasing CrossOver 6.1 but I fear that I will lose my right to get bugfixes (I am not talking about REAL upgrades) when that period is over. If nothing has changed by then I will have to review my rating, mainly in the "bucks-for-value" caregory... [alert admin]

Missing Sync for Palm OS 6.0 (Mac OS X)
So what's new compared to 5.1.2?
I am not really sure... [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 8.0 (Mac OS X)
Besides the good things that have been said so far... on my MacBook 2GHz this software is pretty slow (resizing, scrolling) compared to Preview, display is perhaps a tiny bit better but barely noticeable for my needs. Also, there seems to be a serious bug: documents become distorted (horizontal squeeze) when dragged to my external display (Dell 1704FPV, vertical mode; I rate this as serious because if software designed to view documents does this correctly only in certain conditions it's pretty useless). The user interface suggests that this this version of Adobe Reader has not been written by developers really dedicated to the Mac. This said, I guess I will continue to stick with Preview for most tasks (which is reading of PDF documents). Perhaps some day I will discover the "must have feature"... [alert admin]

CrossOver 6.0b2 (Mac OS X)
..piece of software. I wonder how long it will be before Apple implements (or copies) this technology. Of course, some unsupported software does not work, on the other hand some software does suprisingly well. Perhaps this could be answered or commented by experts... simply by looking at the concept it appears to me that this approach should be relatively safe from viruses etc (maybe except for a virus that specifically targets Crossover or Wine), or am I completely wrong? CrossOver 6.0b1 (Mac OS X)
Of course some software will not work as expected (or at all). Parallels is a "clean" solution and will provide maximum compatibility. Crossover is somewhat "quick & dirty" but if I am lucky enough to have one piece of software that works (and also some of the so called "unsupported software" happens to function....) why use Windows? Right now I am running software that I had never expected to function with crossover... [alert admin]

DataViz Documents To Go Premium Edition 8.0030 (Palm OS)
On the plus side is clearly the feature that Ofice and PDF files can be directly read and modified without conversion. I hoped that this would largely reduce my need of printing documents on paper. Unfortunately, some serious flaws almost annihilate the features. Well, perhaps they have to do with my Palm or my expansion card. But it appears that Docs To Go is the only application that causes my Palm TX to reset while opening files from the expansion card (Toshiba, 1 GB). So far I have experienced it mostly with larger .doc and .pdf files. The other problem is how PDF documents are displayed. My Palm has a high res screen but display/scaling is pretty bad, I would expect a result that is more readable. Moreover, switching between resolutions is too slow, again, this might not be the fault of the software. I don't expect Laptop-like performance and I would not mention this if my Palm was old. However, this is a recent model (Palm TX) and on a device that can play back movies you would expect that the hardware has enough muscle to handle display and scaling of fonts. This is sometimes pretty frustrating. Especially when trying to present documents to colleagues. Makes you feel like a beta-tester. And unfortunately, I almost never use it for serious work. Parallels Desktop 2.2.1862.0 (Mac OS X)
The previous version appeared to slow down OS X, this seems much better now. Good job. I have still the trial version, but I guess I will buy it! [alert admin]

ATIccelerator II 1.0.6b (Mac OS X)
Machine: G4 PowerBook (Alu, 2004), 15, GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI 9700/64MB, OS X 10.4. Increased processor clock speed to 450 (+15%) and memory speed to 225 (+11%), so far no problems. MS Word windows behaved somewhat erratically, and it appeared to me that my PowerBook just sucked the power from the battery. Then I underclocked the processor to 126 MHz and memory to 63 MHz. No idea if this are the real numbers, but indeed, I saw a decreased in fps in No Limits (a rollercoaster simulator), but even with the highest resolution, screen size detail, bit depth etc, the framerate rarely dropped below 20 fps, most of the time it was around 24-26 which made no difference in terms of user experience compared to 40+ fps with the card "cranked up". But most important, the ventilator remained silent (while it starts almost immediately with the overclocked card..). Perhaps this little app turns our to be more useful than intended by the author [alert admin]

NeoOffice 1.2 (Mac OS X)
Good: free, lots of functions; Bad: still slow and some critical drawbacks...
Getting better, lots of functionality... but for me still not a serious alternative to MS-Office. Main criticisms: 1. Spreadsheet and Presentation are very slow. For example, it takes forever to load a complex spreadsheet with multiple sheets, graphs and calculations. This is not acceptable, whatever the reason is, and in particular not for software that otherwise offers similar functionality as Excel. 2. Still no support for plugins like EndNote, used by many scientific writers. There is a workaraound but which is not acceptable if I need share documents with coauthors that use MS Office with EndNote. 3. Conversion of Excel Spreadsheets with graphs is not satisfactory. Again, If NeoOffice is intended to be an alternative to MS Office, problems like this are not acceptable, unless it clearly outperforms MS Office otherwise. Obviously, this software is written by highly motovated people that are idealistic enough not to ask money for it. I have already donated, and I would be among the first to spend more money for this software once these drawbacks are corrected. I think that it's great to have free software, however, if productivity suffers, it might not be the best alternative. [alert admin]

EndNote 9.0 (Mac OS X)
Downloading the update image was only possible with IE on Windows, or with IE on Mac only after my OSX (OSX 10.4.2, no third party) firewall was turned off. This was reproducible. Not very Mac-friendly (hello ISI ResearchSoft, listen to Mac Users too). Firewalls protect computers from unauthorized acess over a network, what should be now my conclusion? [alert admin]

Perhaps you guys should check your site for errors since I am at least the third out of tens of thousands that has problems with downloading (no, I am not using the Mac of the other two...)

even easier: simply select the code and drag it in the textbox (in case none of the tricks described above worked). Otherwise, I agree that it is a bit awkward that you can not paste the code the way paste is supposed to work, but to give the software only one star just because of that - that's stupid too.

Sub-standard Beta Software....???
The fastest way to get bugs fixed and functions improved goes over frequent releases (see X-Plane, some people really believe - and wrote it in comments - that their frequent releases are actually a sign of very buggy software, such a nonsense). They need the feedback to move on)! So please stop complaining...

totally unnecessary; just paste one line in shell
downloading and running this software: just a few clicks reading and following your instructions.... no comment :-) If I didn't have a mouse or trackpad, then, of course, I would reconsider your trick. Welcome back in the times before Macintosh.

LOL. If your comment about the UI was true, the the software engineers at Apple must be really incompetent because of the UI of the Finder, Safari and more OS X apps are done the same way. :-)

X-Plane 8.0.5 doesn't display properly on my machine.
Somehow the preferences were "scrambled". Set Window size to match your screen size and everything will be OK. Also, Other preferences like start up with engine already runnnig etc had to be set manually.
