Apple Performance Update 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Performance appears enhanced. :O

Several hours in and so far I'm happy to be computing without the constant beach ball hangups. It appears that this update is true to it's name. Apparently a succesful beachballectomy. [alert admin]

TinkerTool System 2.0 (Mac OS X)

No discounted upgrade for version 1.xx users

After installing the new version, I found my license key no longer worked. You get a free upgrade license if you happened to have bought it July 3rd of 2008 or sooner. I happened to have bought just slightly previous to that, so I am supposed to pay out the full price again if I want compatibility with the imminent OS X 10.6. There is no discounted upgrade at all for loyal version 1.xx purchasers. [alert admin]

Unreal Tournament 2004 3369.2 (Mac OS X)

Update seems to have killed voices audio

I installed this game from the original DVD on my new MBP with 10.5.5. I had to use the updated installer application which I found elsewhere to keep the installer from crashing. It performed very nicely but I had not installed any updates, so it was obviously running under Rosetta. After applying the 3369.2 Universal Binary update, the performance increased dramatically. It was already running great with max settings with the PowerPC under Rosetta version, but the UB update makes it somehow even snappier and FPS goes through the roof. The down side is that after applying the update, the audio of the players voices no longer works. I tried deleting all my custom user data files and running everything at default and still nothing, so I guess the update changed it somehow. Too bad, because the voices are a real part of the fun. I don't know if it's a bug in the game or an incompatibility with 10.5.5 or what, but I wish there was a solution because it's still a fun game. [alert admin]

Apple MacBook/Pro Trackpad Firmware 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Strangely...

Despite having a brand new MacBook Pro manufactured November 5th and delivered less than a week ago, this update does not install saying that my computer does not need it. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 8.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Disappointed...

I was hoping they would put the option back in preferences to turn off arrow links to the store. That preference check box mysteriously vanished in version 8.00. [alert admin]

Unreal Tournament X 1.0pr3 (Mac OS X)

Heartbreakingly incomplete...

I feel the abandonment of this project is terribly sad. I never had more online fun with any game as much as Unreal Tournament. I still dream that someone will finish this or make a new client so the original Unreal Tournament can thrive again. [alert admin]

Yahoo! Messenger 3.0b1r2 (Mac OS X)

Insulting.

There is no excuse in this day and age for the disparity between the Windows & Mac version of this software. Yahoo is a big company with lots of money, certainly they could whip out a Mac version that has the same feature set. As a result, I have abandoned using Yahoo messenging altogether but in the rarest of instances. When I do log in, I use Adium, which sadly is a far superior client than any of the Mac messengers for any service. The dismal Mac development is not unique to Yahoo, it's the same with MSN's messenger as well. The only thing that I really appreciate about Yahoo over the others is the ability to receive and send offline messages. Unfortunately it's not worth it. I'd happily use their client if they bothered to make it the same software as Windows but as it is, it's like being thrown a dog biscuit and made to sit in the corner at a holiday banquet. Wired Client 1.3.1 (Mac OS X)

Crash on Launch

I've always loved this software.. Clients of this type never seem as well-designed as they could be, but Wired has definitely been my favorite. Unfortunately Wired 1.3.1 with OS X 10.4.7 crashes immediately anytime I try to launch it. I think 10.4.7 broke it for me. I know version 1.3 worked with OS X 10.4.6, but I didn't try 1.3.1 prior to updating to 10.4.7 so I'm not sure which may be the culprit, or if it's some other strange issue altogether. Deleting preferences was my first attempt at rectifying the problem but it made no difference. By the looks of it there are others having the same problem. I tried launching it repeatedly as that seems to have worked for some but not I. So at this point this software is completely useless on my system. [alert admin]
