I started using this program when I first switched to a Mac 2 years ago, and have had nothing but a terrific experience with it. I tried both DL and Bookpedia, and found that Bookpedia was far more reliable and flexible for my use. I recently [April 2009] received a copy of the latest DL as part of the latest Machesit and found that I was still better served by Bookpedia. As a humanities professor, I like being able to use smart folders and the columns to organize and tag my books. Additionally, the ability to export titles for bibliographic use is outstanding. I have also made good use of its ipod syncing capabilities--which have only been made better with pocketpedia which allows you to sync to iphones and ipod touch. [Something promised in future versions of DL.] This lets me keep track of everything I already have and everything I am looking for and helps me to comparison shop with updated prices for new and used items. I could really go on and on about the terrific customer service as well. But shouldn't you just go and see for yourself? You won't be disappointed! [alert admin]

I 'earned' this program from Macheist [thanks to the folks at Macheist] and have been using it for about a month. I was a bit skeptical at first about whether I would use it or not--I already have sketchbox, journler, and use notebook and notetaker. It turns out that I am not interested in an app being all things to me, and prefer to have it do one thing very well. Shovebox is just one of those programs. While researching on-line I use it to take notes on different items, mostly from googlebooks and other reading intense sources. I have succesfully imported my notes into other programs at later dates. It serves as very good 'scratch pad'. Given its size it is very easy to take notes with other programs open. I know that you can do something similar in Zotero but I don't like leaving my stuff in their program--the UI isn't good for me. I prefer exporting the info into the right program at another date, to having to use Firefox to retrieve my info. While I wouldn't have paid $25 for it, I would have given $10 for the program. So keep your eye out for a deal. [alert admin]

Process 3.0.8 (Mac OS X)
I downloaded Process via Macheist and took to it write away. I have several programs that have similar functions [Notetaker & Notebook, Omnioutliner, and Journler]. I like them all and use them for very different sorts of labor--course notes, research, writing outlines, very specific hierarchical note-taking [films, plays, teaching texts, and personal journaling.] I realize that there is some redundancy here but each project is perfect for its task and less so for another task. I downloaded Process in order to work on time-sensitive projects that didn't need to have an extensive archive [Notetaker/Notebook] and that need to have nested entries [something that Journler doesn't do well, IMHO]. Omnioutliner is great but is UI is hideous and just doesn't work well for these sorts of projects, at least not for me. I have not had a problem with ical integration [this is not an essential task for me, so heavy users may find more problems?]. The UI is great and looks not only like a Mac program but gives you a sense of the progression of a given project. I particularly like that each entry can have a set of notes for itself and that I can link to other programs--Notetaker for instance--click the link and it will immediately go to the right page of the notebook. The downside--you can not print your notes!!!!!!!! I have been using process to keep notes for courses--nothing heavy like serious course prep--mostly just day to day items and questions for directed readings with students. those are stuck in the program unless I export them to html or copy and paste into another program. Yikes! the notes need to come out. I have contacted the developer [they promptly responded] and they have added printing as a feature request. Whatever would make some think that printing is optional?? For very heavy users--this would be a no-go. For me, I am going to look around for another similar program and keep eye on this one. But given that other reviewers have lost material, that gives me even more pause. [alert admin]

It might be that NeoOffice offers a real alternative. I am considering giving it a go.
