Intuit Quicken 2007 R2 (Mac OS X)
While the Windows version of Quicken seems to get better, the Mac version gets steadily worse with each version. Their latest release removes the 'Recent files' menu item. Why? As far as I can figure, someone at Intuit simply decided they didn't like it. Personally, I used it all of the time. The salt in the wound is that I cannot revert back to Quicken 2006... the data files are irreversibly changed. There are a lot of other personal finance packages out there for the Mac, and most of those other developers respect their users. Patronize them. Don't give your money to Intuit, which keeps shoveling out the same old crap. [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 3.5.3 (Mac OS X)
VersionTracker is VERY unstable under Tiger, to the point where I am no longer using it much. It crashes almost every time I try to do a download. [alert admin]

Wine XT 2.0.7 (Mac OS X)
Excellent wine management application ![]()

Over the past year and a half I've watched this application grow better and better with each release. I use it to manage my 500-bottle collection, and it's the best wine manager I've found for the Macintosh. The amount of data that can be kept on a bottle is staggering. I mostly use the basic information (type, region, year, best-drinking dates) and ratings from my favorite wine reviewers. The built in cellar reports do everything I need them to do, but they're also customizable via templates. One nice feature that the author added is that winery & wine supplier information is stored in the Mac Address Book, so that they're available through that application as well. [alert admin]

Echelon 1.1 (Mac OS X)
The fact that this developer would even consider putting code in to erase an entire home directory IMHO gives us a pretty good idea of the developer's attitude towards their user base.
Don't use this product.... you never know what other ideas the developer might have had!

Virex X 7.5 (Mac OS X)
I recently upgraded to the new .Mac version of Virex (7.5). Trustingly, I asked it to check for viruses in my email. Virex soon found some, and then immediately proceeded to delete the entire contents of my inbox.
Use with great caution! I lost over 750 messages. [alert admin]

Fast DVD Copy 2.0.3 (Mac OS X)
This product works fairly well, but the licensing scheme is extremely annoying. First, after paying $99 for the license, I found out that I needed another license to run on my laptop. (For that price, I should be able to run it on at least two personal machines.) Secondly, the price is too high for the product. It does copy DVDs in one step, but the combination of DVDBackup (freeware) and DVDRemaster ($39.99) does the same thing for $60 less. It would be nice if the company seemed to care about their customer's opinions and feedback, but they don't. Though I licensed this product, I probably wouldn't knowing that I can't use it on both my laptop and my desktop. [alert admin]

I want to have the developer's babies! The only criticism I have is that I would add a feature to download a bootleg version of Panther from a p2p file sharing system and install it on every Mac in my office. [alert admin]

Goban v55 (Mac OS X)
Goban is the finest Go app for Macintosh ![]()

The creators of Goban are clearly lovers of the game, but they're just as clearly lovers of the Macintosh platform. This game is beautifully crafted, plays well, and is everything a Mac application should be. Nevertheless, the authors continue to come up with new ways to make the application better. [alert admin]
