HimmelBar 2.4.3 (Mac OS X)

Great (and free!), just wish next version would come out

For Leopard compatability *and* additional customizable folders...(his website states that the alpha version for Leopard was ready in February...hopefully that means soon! :-) [alert admin]

Dashboard KickStart 2.3 (Mac OS X)

Great app

Works well, can't argue with the price, but would be even better if it didn't have that little icon with the developer's name pop up first! (Okay, I know he has the right to do it if he's not going to charge for it, but it would still make it a tiny bit "cleaner" in my mind if it didn't do that.) [alert admin]

Adobe Flash Player 10.0.0.525 (Mac OS X)

It's a beta, and you're supposed to *uninstall* the previous version

It's easy not to realize this is a beta (or at least it was for me—perhaps because it appeared in bold print at VersionTracker?) Anyway it also says that Adobe "requires" you to uninstall the previous version, with a standalone uninstaller…this was a new one for me, although I don't know if it would actually cause any serious problems (or if the install process would get interrupted by a warning message) if you didn't. DivX for Mac 6.7.1 (Mac OS X)

Ever plays files VLC can't?

I guess it boils down to one question for me: has anyone else *ever* had this play a file that the latest version of VLC couldn't? [alert admin]

Maintenance 3.7 (Mac OS X)

3.8 for Leopard only, 3.7 bundled with 3.8

NB 3.8 is for Leopard only, but 3.7 (Tiger only) is bundled with 3.8 (don't bother looking for it online, all its links are dead for 3.7 alone). [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 2.6.0 (Mac OS X)

Works fine for me

So far so good. Plus I like the new little battery level indicator. The last version was so buggy I just deleted it and used the system mouse software. [alert admin]

Hotspot Shield 0.942-2 (Mac OS X)

Great idea but too many sites don't load properly

Love the idea and the price but a lot of sites don't load properly for me, especially when I stay in hotels (I also have trouble sending *out* emails when staying in hotels so maybe they set up things more strictly than other public places.) Note: I *don't* use adblockers, or have popups turned off in Safari. If you just want to use it in train stations, bookstores, etc., is a good app but otherwise can be a pain. (P.S. I sent an email to the developers telling about them about these experiences but didn't hear back.) [alert admin]

iStocks Widget 0.3.1 (Mac OS X)

Way to change order of listings?

Works great so far I'm just wondering if there's a way to reorder the listings without going through them deleting them manually and then readding them. (I like having them listed in a particular order, but sometimes I need to add or change what I keep listed.) [alert admin]

SafariStand 3.1L160 (Mac OS X)

There's a different version for Tiger users

Note: if you're still using Tiger there is a different version of this plugin available directly from the manufacturer's website (the 'L' in the name is a 'T', so it's 30.0T160). [alert admin]

Bookdog 5.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Is this version recommended for Tiger users?

The last one was beta, this one doesn't say anything so I'm assuming it's good to go? But, the last one was recommended for Leopard and/or new users, so if you're an "old" Tiger user what if any are the benefits? [alert admin]

Laugh or cry?

Quite possibly the stupidest "review" I've ever seen at VT. I'd bet twenty bucks he didn't even try it.

What's going on?

I agree completely. If this were non-beta it would be "best of breed", especially for me as my copy of AppTrap has mysteriously simply stopped working.

Was so much faster.....but

Well it's a beta, so the workaround is either 1) revert to the previous non-beta release, or 2) wait until the non-beta of this version. :-) But it's nice to hear that it sort of works on Powerbooks…

trouble?

True but you also have to add each one by hand (not *such* a big deal, but if you periodically change which widgets you want to appear as I do, it's a *little* bit more work to go into the System Preferences each time.) Also they presumably won't disappear until you click elsewhere on the desktop, again a very minor issue, but you don't you have to do it with Dashboard Kickstart…I'll stick with DB…

Also, the number appears to be *lower* than the previous beta version (10.0.1.128), FWIW.

well xs also describes itself as "deleting the localizations you don't need." so they are not purely complementary, but *also* overlapping

Great idea but too many sites don't load properly

Another little beef: there doesn't appear to be a user forum and/or mailing list accessible from the developer's website (ok there's not that much to discuss but i at least would like to know if anyone has a technique for getting rid of the menubar which appears at each page without paying for it.) But i still use it in public wifi spots, unless i notice pages aren't loading or emails won't go out.

A brilliant mess

I use 0.7b3 and have for some time, the only problems are that it won't clear the recent search list (which doesn't really bother me) and every once in a while (1-2x/month?) the list of customized search engines reverts back to the default settings. For this I've just learned to keep an extra copy of the preferences file, when it happens I just drop a copy into the appropriate folder and AS is up-and-running again. Note:…

Yeah I'm running 10.4.11 too and Software Update said the update was for me too, why does VT does 10.5 only?
