JaSFtp 7.3 (Mac OS X)
There's a sucker born every minute...
...and this developer is fishing for some. Please. An FTP app for $70. Add ssh for an additional $30, and sell an sFTP app for $100. This is some kind of joke, right? Ah, well. For any FTP newbies who happen by this comment, do yourself a favor and hop on over to Panic's web site (panic.com), and support those fine folks with $30 for a very good, stable FTP client wrapped in a thoughtfully developed GUI. Heck, they'll even throw in the secure transfer capability at no additional charge! A very good (and free) alternative: Cyberduck In short, don't let this schyster reel you in. And I am in no way affiliated with Panic or any other FTP software developer. [alert admin]

SMS Mac 1.7 (Mac OS X)
$15.00 for the app, plus an additional $.10 for each message. If you'd like the function that this application provides without the initial and continuing charges, please note that there are a number of free options available to Mac users, including widgets and stand-alone apps. [alert admin]

Sweet MIDI Player 2.2.0 (Mac OS X)
...and not in the baby-toting sense. It's fine if you set it to play a file and then just leave it alone, but if you make any parameter adjustments, it will soon become unresponsive, necessitating a program quit. Same problem for the last few versions, was hoping this recent release would fix it. Potential for this program is there, just not yet realized. In short, keep your money away from this one for now. File RoundUp 2.6b11 (Mac OS X)
Good app with plenty of powerful features. However, it's in dire need of a facelift. Reminiscent of OS 9. Crash prone. Response is a bit slow on some basic operations. A lot of potential. It would be nice to see this utility get some finishing touches, both superficial and substantial. [alert admin]

OnyX 1.6.4 (Mac OS X)
I would highly recommend reading this: http://www.rixstep.com/4/2/onyx141,00.html Refers to an older version, but I downloaded this version (1.6.4) and the same things apply... [alert admin]

CicadaX Screensaver 1.0 (Mac OS X)
It's worth noting that unless you actually pay for these "screensavers", they're pretty useless as such. Paying enables you to change to background color to something (black!) more befitting an actually useful screensaver. Otherwise, these are merely eye candy, with no other practical function. DeBabelizer 5.0.2 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Back in my early days of web design/development, DeBabelizer was considered one of THE tools to have in your software arsenal. In the intervening years, quite a number of commercial and shareware apps have appeared and evolved to a level that meet or exceed the capabilities of this program for a fraction of the cost. To ask this price for this software takes a lot of gall. Or suckers. Whatever. [alert admin]

MakingMusic 2.3 (Mac OS X)
This would have been handy to have during my early days in music ed. However, I have to agree with prior posters regarding caching and additional technical information for each instrument. I'd also like to see the addition of the Sousaphone - being a Tuba player myself, I often have to explain to non-musical types that the horn I play is not what they've seen on the football field (although I spent years suffering through marching band). Nice job overall, though. Keep up the good work. [alert admin]

MacWalker 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Original. Not too bad to look at, and I didn't have the stability issues that others seem to have had. I'd keep it but for a couple of things: I'd like to not see the spinning logo or the ball; an option to remove these would be a nice addition. Speed, number of laptops, background color, randomization options would be good too. [alert admin]

A quick and dirty way to remove the date: Open the script in the AppleScript Editor, and find this line:
set myDate to month of (current date) & space & day of (current date) & ", " & year of (current date) as stringChange this line to read:
set myDate to ""(that's two double quotes)
save (under a new name, perhaps?), and run in iTunes

This may be a little harsh, but this screensaver just makes me think that people will throw just about anything out there for a buck. There's nothing particularly special about this. Given the number of more substantial (read: cooler) screensavers out there that are free, it seems a bit pretentious to ask for money for this. For its quality and entertainment value, this should be freeware.
