NotLight 1.4 (Mac OS X)

Seems to work fine on Snow Leopard.

I'm still not convinced HoudahSpot is worth $25 more than NotLight. This will do. [alert admin]

Dock Gone 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Just one flaw, but a significant one.

The good: All I want is to prevent the hidden dock from popping up and interfering with what I am doing. This does that perfectly. I can hide/reveal the dock with a shortcut of my choosing. Support by the author is superb. The bad: When either hiding or revealing the dock, ALL minimized windows become un-minimized. They pop up like zombies, and interfere with what I am doing. This would be at least 4 out of 5 if it were not for that. [alert admin]

Verey I + Twitter 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Horrible product. Horrible people. Stay away!

Locks up your screen when your back is turned. Forced reboot required. No other way to use your own computer. No way to enter your password. Totally stupid. It took 2 e-mails to get them to tell me how to uninstall this dreadful thing. Bak2U was only concerned about whether I had paid (I had), but not about my lost work and time. Worst $40 I have ever spent. The download link in this site doesn't work. Just as well. Think twice about buying other products from these people. Seems to me I bought this from GadgetTrak. Not sure what the relationship is. [alert admin]

aMule 2.2.5 (Mac OS X)

It can be made to work.

It didn't work out of the box for me, but I'm not familiar with this network. Not even slightly Macintosh like. No menu bar. Copy and paste don't work in most places. Not that bad once you get it going. The Kad search worked best Found 3 copies of something I had been looking for without success on gnutella and bittorrent. I'm only getting single digit KB/s download speeds at best. Upload speed is whatever I set it to, so some people are getting good download speeds, just not me :-) I'm not sure if I recomment aMule or not. VersionTracker won't let me leave that blank. The best thing is that it connects to another independent network that is very much alive and well. [alert admin]

IP Scanner 2.33 (Mac OS X)

Works on 10.5.7 MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo

I suspect that paying the 30 bucks gets rid of the 5 host limit in the display window. The WEB site shows more than 5 hosts being displayed. Too spendy for me to test that theory :-( A few warnings on the Console don't seem to matter: 2009/06/03 7:30:58 114-47-202-105 IP Scanner[12987] Warning *** NSTimer ignoring exception '*** -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (34) beyond bounds (34)' that raised during firing of timer with target 0x82be00 and selector 'doCountdown:' [alert admin]

Verey I + Twitter 1.1 (Mac OS X)

No way to enter my password. Had to force a reboot.

My wired ADSL dropped during the night, so the WiFi connection took over. Verey probably asked for my password. I'm sleeping, so it doesn't get one. I later wake up to a red on white "you did not enter the correct password" screen. Damn! VEREY annoying. Totally unacceptable to have to force a reboot. I did get a video of my naked upper back. NTI Dragon Burn 4.5.0.7 (Mac OS X)

I like it.

I chose this program 5 years ago because Toast was too expensive. I got lucky. It is a single integrated program with an easy to use interface that does everything I want except DVD decryption and DVD recompression. I don't recall ever having to pay for a newer version. NTI are a bit infrequent with new versions but that has not been a problem. The Universal version was very late, but the PowerPC version worked astonishingly well on an Intel Mac (I'm impressed by Rosetta too :-) I'm surprised to see ratings below 4 for this program. I've been using computers on a daily basis since 1965. [alert admin]

bunzip2recover produced the same bad .dmg file as did both bunzip2 and Stuffit expander. Something strange at the end of the file. Permissions problems ???

I've had one permission problem in 4 years. It was with the HP printer driver for a lazerjet 3020 multifunction. I found the suggestion to repair permissions when Googling for a solution for the printer not printing. Much to my surprise, it fixed it. Not sure what caused the problem. Possibly a bad update from HP. I wonder if most permission problems are from mounting the file system with automount or else on another operating system like Windows or…

bunzip2: (stdin): trailing garbage after EOF ignored

Stranger and stranger. GraphicConverter downloads and mounts fine, even though the first 10 bytes are the same as LoadMyTracks. "file" gives the same report for both files. Neither file has a resource fork. Both have the same permissions, blank TypeCreator, and unset Locked&Invisible flags. Both have CreationDate=ModificationDate. Must be either the FileName or other metadata, or something beyond the first 10 bytes! The upgrade to 10.4.6 has made no difference. Here is the nitty gritty: rt:~/tmp/Safari rtilley$ mdls LoadMyTracks.dmg.bz2>/tmp/L rt:~/tmp/Safari rtilley$ mdls gc*>/tmp/g rt:~/tmp/Safari rtilley$…

bunzip2: (stdin): trailing garbage after EOF ignored

Hello Gaige ... On my machine, in Terminal.app: file LoadMyTracks.dmg gives: LoadMyTracks.dmg: bzip2 compressed data, block size = 100k How about on your Mac??????? Most other .dmg files give either "data" or "VAX COFF executable ..." or "Apple Partition data ..." Your's is the only one that gives "bzip2 ..." except for .bz2 files of course :-) ... Richard

bunzip2: (stdin): trailing garbage after EOF ignored

I (with great support from the developer) have got it working. Even though http://www.cluetrust.com/Downloads/LoadMyTracks.dmg is a compressed disk image, downloading it with Safari appended a .bz2 qualifier to the name, so that I received a file called LoadMyTracks.dmg.bz2 Naturally I decompressed it before trying to mount it. :-( All I had to do is remove the .bz2 with the Finder, and it "just worked". Garmin eTrex Vista, Keyspan 19Qi, TiBook 800Mhz 1GB, OS X 10.4.5. So nice to have all my waypoints…
