Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 (Mac OS X)

Yes, folks, there is a trial version...

The Elements 6 page at Adobe offers two buttons up front - Buy and Trial. A trial seems like a good idea, especially given the amount of negative feedback here. The trial version gives you 30 days to fool with it from the first launch. It's the full download, which is BIG (1.2+ G), and took about 20 minutes to download with Fios at about 1 Mb sec. Installation was very slow, but then, I have a creaky old 700mHz flat panel (OSX 10.4.11), and it worked first time out. I plan to wait to start the trial until I have time to spend with it, but so far I haven't experienced any of the download/installation issues mentioned below. Who knows? Maybe it will crash, fail to open, maybe my Mac will explode, but I've never had any problems downloading Adobe software in the past. [alert admin]

Apple iWeb 1.1 (Mac OS X)

DO NOT UPGRADE TO iWeb 1.1 UNTIL APPLE REPAIRS PUBLISHING ERRORS!

I had created a photo site on my .Mac account using the old Homepage feature in iPhoto 5 and was mildly annoyed to find that iPhoto 6 allows only the use of iWeb. Rather than deal with trying to access the site in iWeb, I decided to just re-design it, which only involved a few pages of photos. Having never used iWeb, I was pleased to find that recreating the pages and adding a new site menu were simple and quick. The software is pretty easy to learn just by experimenting, and provided me with some improvements. It's easier and faster than Homepage was. I didn't even open Help - that is, until I tried to publish the site to my iDisk. Sorry, no can do. Five days of trying and e-mail back and forth with Apple support still yields only error messages, none of which are explained either in the iWeb Help, on any of Apple's support sites, or by the support techs. (They do acknowledge that there is a problem and that they are working on it. I'm still waiting.)) Meanwhile, my site is down. Guess I'll have to revert to 1.01. What a waste of time! DO NOT UPGRADE TO VERSION 1.1! WAIT FOR A FIX FROM APPLE, PREFERABLY AS AN UPDATE! [alert admin]

Viou 2.5 (Mac OS X)

Won't open lately...

I've used Viou happily for a couple of years now with great results. (It's almost hard to believe it's free.) Lately, though, it has been mysteiously refusing to open - the icon dances in the dock for a bit and then stops and dissappears. Re-installing, updating, restarting, nothing seems to work, and the developer doesn't seem to want to answer my e-mail. Anybody have a similar problem, or, more to the point, a solution? Please make it universal binary.

Good Luck! I love this app, despite the (thankfully) temporary problems with it (see posting 9/13/05 - After several inquiries, I never heard from the developer in over a year; fortunately, the issues mysteriously resolved themselves and I'm using it again.) Don't know what he's up to, but it doesn't seem to involve Viou.

"Info"?

Doesn't work for me either. Must be the app.
