Apple iTunes 8.0 (Mac OS X)

What the hell is going on here?

I've NEVER had a problem with upgrades to iTunes before, and suddenly I'm beset by scads of them. I have no menus - they just won't come up! I've lost substantial parts of my music libraries, and, to add insult to injury, the bug from 7.5 about odd foreign characters is back! I have five Macs, all running OSX 10.4.11 on PPC, and they ALL are doing the same stuff! Suffice it to say I'm very unhappy... [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 6.0 (Mac OS X)

What's the Problem??

Being a graphics professional who deals with a lot of "problem" PDF files in my client-centered workflow, I immediately noticed that 6.0 deals with display and font issues that were giving me headaches in 5.1 (especially in Windows 98 and OSX, where bullets and other special symbols in fonts were displaying and even printing inconsistently) until now. This may be of limited use to other people, so I'll instead comment on my experiences with my home OSX machine, which is a rather slow G3 iMac/400 MHz. Version 6 opens no slower, measurably, than 5.1 did, as far as I can see, and renders many things more accurately - the bullet-to-generic-square issue, for instance, is now a moot point. Also, as others have pointed out, the (maybe) annoying logo can be removed and the thumbnail displays are greatly enhanced. Seems terrific to me, and if there IS a longer initial launch time, it actually opens individual files more quickly once it's been launched. Seems fine and dandy to me, kids!! [alert admin]

America Online (AOL) 10.3.0 build 204A (Mac OS X)

Ironed out the…

last bugs I was having with the previous beta... Finally. I'm officially very happy now. And for those who wonder what advantage AOL may have over other ISPs, consider the basically unlimited size of your mailbox. I also have Comcast broadband but it would be worth it to keep my AOL for that reason alone, although I have a couple of others. [alert admin]

Catching up rapidly…

to 8.0 for PC now, and much faster and more stable! Fabulous... the best build yet - I'd gone back to the last GM version when my mail listings (which can be long) were hanging horribly, but everything seems great now. Kudos!! [alert admin]

PTHPasteboard 3.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Just wonderful, and…

as far as I can tell, bug-free! I'm going to make my own donation today myself... Unobtrusive and indispensible. [alert admin]

Acquisition 0.801 (Mac OS X)

OK, OK!!! That'll…

teach me to spout off before checking. The Java update fixes things in no uncertain terms - faster and more connective than ever! Yippee, even! [alert admin]

Acquisition 0.801 (Mac OS X)

Loved it, bought…

it, but for some reason I can't get the new one (.801) to connect... I notice other people have had problems, too, and there were some odd little problemettes with .80 as well, so have temporarily gone back to 0.74. Does anyone know why it won't connect now? I'm running an iMac with 10.2.4 Jaguar. I just updated the Java from Apple and will try .801 again, but I'm not confident somhow. Would appreciate any feedback! [alert admin]

FruitMenu 3.0 (Mac OS X)

It's a big…

plus getting rid of those fading menus! I'm using 10.2.4 on a 400MHz G3 iMac, and the response time for essentially everything seems sped up, especially with all the contextual menu navigating I do... It may slow down a few other things in the process, but the tradeoff is overwhelmingly worth it... Thank you!! [alert admin]

Decoder 3.0b1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

I have yet…

to test this, but before rating it, I have to say I'm gratified to see this out in an OSX version... I've been using the Classic version to decode stubborn MIME-variety files for some years now, with at least a 90% or so success rate (YA-Converter often would open the others, usually part of a multi-file set), and from what I can see, there was no comparable program on the OSX platform so I'm very happy to stumble upon this one. (I had actually been taking stubborn files to my Classic machine, decoding them there with Decoder 2, and then transfering them back!) Hopefully this version will be as effective as Ye Olde Classic one was... [alert admin]

PandoCalendar 5.7.6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

I've been using…

this for years under Classic and now that I'm freshly Jaguar-ified, I'm delighted to have it back, especially with the new, cool frame and the transparency effects that allow me to see more of the desktop image, whatever that may be. I guess I'm too used to my nice 20" screen on my Classic-loaded G3-upgraded machine, and didn't want to take up so much room on an iMac's desktop. Yippee!! (By the way, no bugs that I can see so far on an LE G3 400MHz iMac running Jaguar; I'll be sure to reappear if I do...) [alert admin]
