Adobe Digital Editions 1.7 (Mac OS X)
The binary for this install at: ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/www.macromedia.com/bin/digitaleditions2x0/ This seems to place an application file in a place that is insecure--it could potentially expose data and files stored in the user's home directory. [alert admin]

PGP Desktop Home 9.6 (Mac OS X)
PGP updates are not even listed!!!
The relentless stream of negative comments about bad experiences and the lack of value may have stopped PGP Corp from posting the updates to this software. This is the last listing, at version 9.6, but they have 2 updates since they last posted here (its also been silent at Macupdate). The company needs to address functional issues and return the product to a usable state. Instead, they may be silently killing it off. [alert admin]

Garmin WebUpdater 2.0.0.1 Beta (Mac OS X)
Just updated a StreetPilot 2720 and a 60CSx. It was much faster and easier than using VPC or a PC, and the interface was much better than the PC version. This is a great start. A really great start! [alert admin]

The worst application I have seen in over 10 years ![]()

This application, and I mean all of the versions starting with 9.0, doesn't work. Period. Messaging feature really does secure your email because you often can't send an email. Now with this version, they have even taken away the ability to choose weather or not to encrypt or sign messages using a simple button in Mail.app by removing the Mail plug-in completely. They need to pay me for struggling with this garbage. Over priced. No support. DON'T USE THIS. Get GPG for free. [alert admin]

PGP Desktop Home 9.5.1 (Mac OS X)
I still have not been able to auto-sign emails since upgrading to version 9. PGP messaging "features" just won't work. [alert admin]

PGP Desktop Home 9.5.1 (Mac OS X)
Using the PGP 9.5 menu option, "Check for Updates" returns an error message: "PGP failed to verify the authenticity of the available update" So, even their own buggy software won't touch this update! [alert admin]

CronniX 3.0.2 (Mac OS X)
I'm having no luck either downloading from the VersionTracker link, or even getting to the developer's web page. The web site seems unresponsive, which is a shame as I have used CronniX for quite some time and have found it to be useful. [alert admin]

Tomcat by SW 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)
...to install Tomcat. Its simple and is up and running immediately. I had some problems with SISU's version 3.0 not starting up properly, but that is fixed in this version. The one flaw in this release is being able to start and stop Tomcat without rebooting--the management application will shut down Tomcat, but won't restart it--I need to reboot the machine to get Tomcat started again. Overall its a great package for my light jsp experimentation. [alert admin]

ICEfaces 1.0b (Mac OS X)
The description is very misleading on 2 big points. First, AJAX is Asynchronous JavaScript And XML--not a Java technology. This seems like a kit that connects server side Java to the client with AJAX. Second--and the big one--THIS IS NOT FREE. This is merely a "free" Demo. [alert admin]

The developer for this is using port 9080 for his web site, and that was what was failing. At work, I couldn't open the port in the firewall and therefore couldn't reach the site. At home, I never thought to open port 9080 in my firewall. What I actually did at work--and just completed--was to ssh into a third party machine I can access that is less restricted, curl the file (using the link that…

Re: Just TRY AGAIN... - it isn't that simple
I've tried at various times, from various machines (at home and at work), and still having no success--attempting to reach the web site times out. It may me a firewall issue (the developers new site uses port 9080, which isn't a standard). This means I have to open up that port on my firewall at home, but I will have no way of doing that at work.

You need to read what I said the problem actually was: If I click a link at versiiontracker.com, and that link sends me to pgp.com, the tcp header that is received at pgp.com should contain a "referrer," which is the web site that has the link that is clicked. The page request received by pgp.com contains information that tells pgp.com's server that the request came from a link at versiontracker.com, but pgp.com's code wasn't reading…

Yes. Your company made a half hearted attempt at an apology, and I did email you with the details of the original purchase. It was a complete waste of time to look up the year old credit card statement. It was a waste of time because once again--no reply. Not even a response that said "we can't find the records." That isn't falling through the cracks.

Since you don't know what I want to be emailed about--I paid for your product, and was never sent a confirmation of that order (it DID show up as a charge on my credit card, so you DID collect the money for that purchase). By not receiving a confirmation number, I was not able to upgrade the product. Additional emails to Intech went unanswered. Any response from Intech was NOT filtered by my spam filter,…

I had the same issues, but its not that bad. The problem is that the Sticky Brain installer changes permissions on some Library directories that it shouldn't. Little Snitch isn't really disabled. Just repair permissions, which is a step everyone should do after running an installer anyway, or re-install Little Snich and all is well again. I believe the that the permissions on the Library/Startup Items directory get changed when installing the Open Base startup…

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 You are being a bit aggressive here. First, Intego has been pretty good with their update/upgrade policy, and NetBarrier work pretty well--I use it, along with a router firewall, and the built in firewall. As for using PGP instead--encrypting and decrypting a chat would be very difficult, and as a user of PGP, I wouldn't be able to chat in real time if I had to stop and run to the services menu for every incoming or…
