I use this application to slow down complex musical parts to learn them on guitar and drums. It connects to your iTunes library and will slow down unprotected files. You also have the option of exporting them in a slowed down version if you want to store them on your iPod. Great tool for learning complex or overdubbed music parts! [alert admin]

Finale NotePad 2009 14.0.r1 (Mac OS X)
Registration is flaky on MacBooks. ![]()

I am an avid user of Finale NotePad 2008 and jumped on the 2009 update. Same features for $9.95, but the price isn't too unreasonable. The product is essentially the same as 2008 with the exception of XML support and some funky changes to the sound output. Took em awhile to actually get sound out of it, and I have to reset it with each new startup. That needs to be worked out. A warning to people who want to install this on a MacBook or MacBook Pro: The registration process is broken and you should expect the program to forget that it's registered. As a result it will revert back to its demo mode. There is no way to easily reset your registration with the registration server, and as a result you need to call their support line or open a support ticket to have them reset the server so that you can register the program again. With version 14.0.r1, this happens all of the time. As of 10-14-2008, there is no workaround. I think the program is a step in the right direction, but the registration woes and the lack of significant features from 2008 to 2009, I would suggest holding off on this update. [alert admin]

VueScan 8.4.75 (Mac OS X)
Still no support for HP LaserJet 3330
It's a great piece of software and works with a lot of scanners, but the developer won't add support for the HP LaserJet 3330 All-in-one. [alert admin]

PodWorks 2.8.5 (Mac OS X)
It used to be a good product, now there is no support
Podworks was a great product two years ago when this version was released. It has not been updated and has bugs with current versions of the operating system and iTunes. If the product had support it would be a vast improvement. As other posters have pointed out, emails to the developer go unanswered and the FAQ on the site is very outdated. I would not spend any money and register this product if you are a new user. It has become apparent that the bugs will not be fixed and the two-year-old version is not going to be updated any time soon. [alert admin]

Home Weather Center 1.5.2b (Mac OS X)
I'd rather have something that would do this with my Davis Vantage Pro installed at my house. [alert admin]

DiskWarrior X 3.0 (Mac OS X)
Don't buy now, wait for "forthcoming updater"
There is apparently a forthcoming updater for MacOS X 10.3. If you have external firewire drives that you need to repair and are running MacOS X 10.3, don't bother buying this program right now. It will not fix your external firewire drives.
It also has issues under 10.3 beyond the few I mention above.
Once the updater has been released, and you can get a bootable CD with the newer version on it, buy this program. Until then, save your money and look to another disk utility in the interim. [alert admin]
