To be Artist 1.0 (Mac OS X)

The idea

of $150 for software to make an artists life easier is pretty funny. Every real artist I have ever met, if they had $150 they'd spend it on rent, or food or getting drunk. That is *if* they ever had it. As far as I am concerned the idea of an artist with $150 to spend on software is so alien as to be surreal. Good luck. [alert admin]

No Ken Burns Effect?

No Ken Burns Effect??? A crack murder squad has been sent to your house from Apple Central. The Ken Burns Effect is compulsory! Anyone attempting to escape the Ken Burns Effect is a heretic and an apostate and will be dealt with! They will be strapped down and put to to the Effect both ordinary and extraordinary. TextCrypt 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)

A Mac Failure

The problem with all of the programs like this on the Mac is that they don't work with WIndows or with Linux. Which means that the user can only use encryption with other Mac users which, in my case, is just about useless. This is in no way a criticism of this program, but of literally all of the Mac encryption stuff I have seen so far. [alert admin]

Paintbrush 0.7 (Mac OS X)

Good stuff.

This is very decent software. Just last night I was drawing black-and-white cartoons in Photoshop Elements 3... which is akin to picking up the milk in an ocean liner. Today, Paintbrush is in my dock, and it is going to stay there. It is neat software. It loads instantly (on a G4 Powerbook) and does exactly what it is supposed to, which is provide pixel pushing on screen quickly and without any hassles and without the planetload of hoops that the "big boys" make you jump through before you can start scribbling. Application Annihilator 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Spelling mistake

This program is a simple script which does what it says it will. It is very simple and effective. One point. The download is called "Applciation Annihilator1.1.zip" which (in case you missed it) is a typo. Believe me, it takes a lot of courage to run a program which is a spelling mistake. Especially one that deletes things off your HDD. The program actually works though. [alert admin]

Battle Ducks 1.0.0 (Mac OS X)

Conceptual difficulty

Good game. It s just difficult to conceptualise ducks so stupid that they would emulate battleships and the worlds navies. In my observation, ducks have far more commonsense. [alert admin]

RapidWeaver 3.5.1 (Mac OS X)

Rapid is relative

I have been using RapidWeaver (registered) for about 12 months, and it is a seriously mixed bag. It makes pages supremely quickly and easily. It knocks spots of off iWeb and its themes look better. On the other hand, its plugins are frequently patchy and as a program it seems to have outgrown its roots with and interface which increasingly lacks focus and clarity. Where it really falls down though is in the bug ridden FTP upload function. In all honesty I have had nothing but problems worthy of a windows box from RapidWeaver FTP for the last four months. In the last two, I have not had uploads and have had to use third party FTP to get *anything* online. The Rapidweaver "help" forums are worse than useless, being disorganised, confusing and a blatant afterthought. Much of Rapidweaver's functionality is provided by third party plug-ins. They all cost extra. (For your blog entries to show up in Google etc... you need one. It costs ten bucks. It... works.) Get LOTS of experience with this program before you pay. LOTS and LOTS of experience. Offset additional plugin price against purchase of a more expensive up front option. bear in mind that FTP problems can take months to manifest and may be plugin related. I am venting at present, but I don't see any realistic likelihood of my experience of RapidWeaver improving before I have to abandon it and use something else. Rating: Was probably really good, once. AbstractMotion 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Easily my favourite sceensaver

Abstract Motion is far and away my favourite screensaver. Deceptively simple, hypnotic abstract and simultaneously thought provoking. I actually pity intel Mac owners if it won't work on their machines. [alert admin]

Switch 1.12 (Mac OS X)

Installed it, it vanished.

Opened .dmg file, ran installer. Installer seemed to work. Program is now not visible anywhere on harddrive. There is no readme file to explain what installer is liable to do. 12" G4 Powerbook with 10.4.9 [alert admin]

Lotto Sorcerer X 6.4 (Mac OS X)

A question.

If this program worked, why would the coder be selling it as shareware? If it worked he would be richer than the Kingdom of Brunei, with extra Lear jets. Of course, this program only works occasionally. Every time somebody registers it... it works! Its like magic! [alert admin]

Out of curiosity...

Usually about average size, but the small ones can be feisty.

Rapid is relative

I am replying to my own comment here. Several days after writing the last comment, Rapidweaver ceased being able to upload anything, at all. I contacted my ISP. *This* time after a three hour pause, they said that it was their error, on one server, and that everything should now work. Everything now does. They refuse to say what the problem was. This is great, even if they denied everything the last (few) times I rang.…

Cool but problems

Absolute agreement from me. FTP in RapidWeaver is so bad that I am starting to look for something to replace the whole shebang.

Money Changers

"If you notice certain people have been doing this for a long time." Well, if "certain people" knew excrement from floor polish they could have made squillions over the past "long time" by investing in something a little less paranoid. Then they could have gotten *MORE* gold in their hands *when the time came* (scary music) Honestly, some apocalyse planners aren't worth the paranoia they are paid in.
