Now Up-to-Date & Contact 5.1.1 (Mac OS X)
The strength in NUTD/NC has been it's ability to share contacts and calendars between Mac/Windows clients. NUTD/NC 5 saw some important fixes to long standing and documented issues with shared calendars/contacts. It was disappointing to see that these fixes weren't available as free updates. Instead Now Software opted for the user pays upgrade arguing an extended range of new features. On top of that, we are now many months into the release of v5 for Mac and we still have not seen its counterpart v5 for Windows released. All those users with mixed platforms, dying to get access to the fixes in v5, still cannot impliment v5 in anyway until v5 for Windows is finally released -a point that seems lost on Now Software. Cisco VPN Client 4.7.00.0510 (Mac OS X)
Having been a user of 4.6 I upgraded to 4.7.00.0510. After install I was no longer able to launch VPNClient without getting a nice big Error 51 dialogue and then seeing the application quit. Finally resolved after removing all vpnclient packages using Desinstaller and then reinstalling 4.7 again. [alert admin]

StuffIt Standard Edition 10.0 (Mac OS X)
Venting - Updates versus upgrades
So what happened to version 9.0.3 - 9.9? From the what's new section of the product detail, it appears that there are mostly improvements to the existing feature set of these products — not new features. It begs the question, should these improvements have been part of an update out of respect to a loyal customer base? More and more, software companies tagging new versions as upgrades and these versions offer very little over the preceeding version. [alert admin]

OmniPage Pro X 11.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
The product continues to be sold and yet we haven't seen an upgrade or an update since 2002. Strange considering there are features in this software that are just plain broken and haven't been addressed in over three years. Take time to trawl through ScanSoft's FAQ and Support pages before you commit to spending dollars on this software. [alert admin]

Apple iPhoto 5.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Spirit, To bypass v5 and update your v4 library using v5.0.1 try following:- -Move 'iPhoto Library' out of Pictures folder to Desktop -Install and launch v5, this will create a new 'iPhoto Library' -Update v5 to 5.0.1 and launch -Quit v5.0.1 replace new 'iPhoto Library' with a COPY (hold down option key when dragging folder) of your old v4 iPhoto folder back into Pictures folder (assuming you have some HD space to do this) -Launch v5.0.1, iPhoto should detect old v4 library and ask to upgrade it -Make snack and wait (will take a while) I haven't tested this but cannot see why it wouldn't work. If it doesn't work you have a copy of your v4 iPhoto Library' sitting on your Desktop — so simple case of reinstalling v4 and moving 'iPhoto Library' back into Pictures folder. Remember, use a COPY COPY COPY! [alert admin]

World Book 7.3 (Mac OS X)
For just under a year now online updates continue to fail whilst we wait for Mackiev to build a new update server. It leads you to question if this product has a future once it comes out of the box- at the moment it is a stagnant resource. Anyone wanting a comprehenisve - UPDATED resource should get Britannic on DVD (now 2005). I have had both for last three years and I continue to be impressed with Britannica's product, support and customer service. If anyone at Mackiev is listening, turn off your auto responders and get your act together! [alert admin]

2get 1.2.6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
a lot of unexpected quits have ceased. Interface clunky but you should get engine sorted before worrying about cosmetics. On a side note, have got to support Genesis. Users of apps like 2get and iSwipe should understand that these products are connecting to servers that are maintained by third party groups. By use of bots, these servers can enforce rules regarding the sharing of files. I like 2get because it connects to lots of servers and very quickly tells me their requirements. If you dont like them then remove them from your connection list. I do! [alert admin]

2get 1.1.9b (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
stages and clumsy interface but hey it's free and it works. Does some things that iSwipe doesn't do such as queued OpenNap downloads. Certainly gives far better feedback about each individual server requirements (such as 5 files and 5000Mb). Interesting to see that some servers ban the 2get client. Suspect iSwipe is probably banned by some servers too. Knowing server requirements makes for easy workarounds (especially those with obscene GB requirements) [alert admin]

lol - someone got out of the wrong side of bed. LB is by far the better product with exceptional configurability. Since it's inception I have despised Spotlight. It offers the world but Apple has tied it down based on the lowest skilled user. It's limits on configuration and the blinkers approach to finding files are good examples. If I could uninstall Spotlight I would.

I like *censored*tail's maintenance focus on each individual OS. It is not safe to assume each OS behaves and performs in the same way under the hood.
