USB Overdrive 3.0 (Mac OS X)
My faithful Logitech Cordless mouse became utterly and completely useless with this version. No button was any longer functional, not even the wheel. Even the speed was affected, as it slowed down to a crawl. No matter how much I'd fiddle with the settings, it didn't change a thing, so I uninstalled it and re-installed 10.4.8, which had served me well so far. Thankfully, the old version remembered all the settings and prefs, and the old mouse went on roaring all over again. Peccato, Alessandro. [alert admin]

ClamXav 1.1.1e952 (Mac OS X)
On different machines and different OS's I've been unable to get this app to work properly. It always managed to start when it was told not to, and not to start when I told it too. Also slowed down the system due to its humongous log files. When I realized this, I set it to *not* log its activity, but it kept on doing it—even after deleting all its files (incl. the plist) and even after a new system install. Wasted too much time with a moody app. [alert admin]

mAC3dec 1.6.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Makes feel good that I'm sticking to good old 9.2.2 (and 10.3.9, a bit) instead of joining Apple's eternal upgrade race. [alert admin]

Mobile High Speed 3G 4.25 (Mac OS X)
Well, if we are being asked about our opinion... We still use OS9 in our company, like lots of people out there. A year ago or so, we had been interested in buying this software in the OS 9 version that had been around for years, to use in connection with a new phone. But we had one question (I don't remember which one) before we could do so. Mind you, just a question. We did get an answer: "We do not support OS9". Is "shabby" the right word? At any rate, we never bought it, and we worked our way around to other solutions. [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2001 9.0.5 (Mac OS 9)
Make sure that you write down the memory assignment of each of the four programs before you apply the update, and re-assign afterwards. The defaults are unbelievably low. Michel [alert admin]

Pop-Up Zapper Lite 2.03 (Mac OS 9)
OS 9.2.2, G4 dual 800, IE 5.1.7. Installed 2.03, tested with the one pop-up window we have on our own site and PUZapper crashed! Good bye! Michel [alert admin]

HP 4C SCSI scanner from 1998 that cost a lot of money in its days and still works perfectly. But the original software doesn't recognize it in Classic, and neither Apple (which supplied the SCSI card with the G4 SilverLine), nor Adaptec (which produces it) would assume responsibility for the fact that it couldn't work in OSX. So there were two alternatives left: buy a new scanner, or try VueScan, which does the job perfectly! I just wish there was a double interface, though: one simple, easy-to-get-working, and another one for those who have the time to dwell into the finesses of the scanning arts (not me) [alert admin]

iCab 2.8.2 (Mac OS 9)
still totally incapable of rendering the most elementary Javascripts. I know, they're in our web pages and there are very few among the other browsers on the market (PC or Mac) that have any problems with them. [alert admin]

USB Overdrive X 10.0.0b5 (Mac OS X)
it now works in Classic. The previous versions didn't, and neither did Logitech's drivers. [alert admin]

is now available for download at http://www.adobe.com/go/d9c2fe33. Thanks, Gordon. Apparently, Adobe listens to you more than they do to me :-)
