Wired Client 1.2.6 (Mac OS X)

very nice!

Like Wired very much! Running very stable on OS 10.3.8 (Powermac G5) No problems at all! Advantages against Hotline: - files larger then 2GB - long filenames - search included - more stable, low recourses, and much more I would like to see in future releases: - Regognision of partial Hotline and KDX uploads, so Wired will show they are only partial. Very important when running multiple servers! - when disconnected, automatically reconnect and resume up- and downloads (like Pitbull) - hierarchical news (not that important, but nice) - improving the search ability even more, showing the path etc. - better file and folder view!! would be nice if it could be a bit finder like: colums and / or lists with open-triangles. Still, very nice job, I'm very interested how this software will develop in the future! [alert admin]

love DVDBackup, but needs update

Gothika DVD, backup solution only for PC... I just found the new Sony copy protection problem is already solved, but the solution is for PC users only...: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=105272&highlight=gothika Now we still have to wait for an update for Mac. If done, I'll be happy to donate some money for the programmer :) I know what the movie companies are hoping to achieve this way (stop illegal copying), but it's the wrong way, I think... someone who really wants to copy a movie to make money out of it, will allways find a way. But normal people, who just wants to backup their expensive home movies, are the ones getting punished... :( How about making DVD's cheaper? Then maybe the selling of copied DVD's will decrease... Gothika

Personally I prefer buying original DVD's , cause of the printed booklets and inlays. I do find it usefull to make a backup from my DVD's, and use the copied ones for dailly use. So I tried DVDBackup on 6 DVD's. 5 ripped fine, but one... Maybe it has a new kind of copy protection, the DVD is called "Gothika". (a "must have" DVD, this one is on my buying list!) But while not yet available, I rented that DVD first, and while "Copy - Protected" was printed on the DVD, I was curious if DVDBackup could rip it. No change... I then also downloaded and tried MacTheRipper, didn't work either... Even copying using the finder reported errors on certain files. So I believe they integrate some "bad data blocks" into certain files and then use the "jump to" command. Any usual ripping app tries to unkey the whole file and so it keeps hanging on the bad blocks. The film industries are now one step ahead. Question is, how long will it take before a way around is found? [alert admin]

Mozilla Thunderbird 0.7 (Mac OS X)

HTML mails

Cant send HTML formatted mails... It doesnt work, only sending plain text is working ok... And it also seems Thunderbird is still lacking all HTML formatting tools Mozilla has... I guess I have to wait a few versions before dropping Mozilla as my main mail programm (also junk mails seems to be a little bit better handled in Mozilla, but maybe I didnt test Thunderbird long enough to confirm this. v0.7, tested three weeks) [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.3.3 (Mac OS X)

10.3.3 shows memory problems (?)

I did some more testing and think I found what caused the image importing problem: I have a G5 1,8 (single CPU) and 1 GB of Ram. Now, since the update to 10.3.3 , I found my images imported to be corrupted/damaged. On my girlfriends iMac and also 10.3.3 everything was ok. It doesn't matter if I used iPhoto or other ways to import the pictures. The images and CF Cards are ok, so I concluded it must be something specific with my G5. I even tried 3 different digital camera's (Canon G5, 300D and a Nikon D70), but all with same results. So next step was testing the system. Since I have 2 hard drives and several partitions, I tested 10.2.8, 10.3 and 10.3.3. The problem only occured when using 10.3.3. So I assumed it was a 10.3.3 specific problem. I searched at Google for people reporting the same problems, and found a few similar reports on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/OSX/10.3.3_feedback.html#cameraimports and http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G5/G5_usb_firewire_reports.html#imaging Some users reported relevance with memory modules, so I did some more testing. Using the basic Apple Hardware test and Techtool Pro, memory seemed to be ok. But the extended Apple Hardware Test reported a memory error, so I thought my third party memory (good brand, lifetime warranty) must be corrupted. To be sure I tested those memory moduls without the original Apple memory. (using extended Apple Hardware Test) But no problems found...! Testing the Apple memory without the other memory, also no problems found...! Both memory moduls seem to be 100% ok, but not when using them together! They have exactly the same specifications, so I guess minor deviations can may cause problems on the G5! Also, when using only 512 MB and not combining the two different brands, importing the images ran without problems even in 10.3.3...! Brand doesn't matter. My guess: it somehow seems that 10.3.3 uses a changed I/O protokol, using some other memory specific algorithm. Therefor the "image importing" problem was not noticable on earlier systems, and only shows if there is a "problem" with the memory. My conclusion: actually there is not really a problem with either 10.3.3, USB, importing images, or CF cards. 10.3.3 only seems to make some memory problems noticable. The actuall problem seems to be: the G5 has problems dealing with mixing memory of different brands or minor variations... I believe the importing problems are only pointing to some kind of memory problems (defect memory, or mixed memory in my case) If I'm right, then I really hope this is a known problem at Apple and it can be fixed by a firmware update (soon). (If not, I probably need to buy more memory again, exactly same type and brand) [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.3.3 (Mac OS X)

Same problem here

I allready posted this problem a time ago: 10.3.3 is working great, except for the USB and digicam problem... It is a fact, that with a G5 and 10.3.3 images from a digital camera are getting corrupted when importing them. It does't matter if one uses iPhoto or another way to import the photo's The problem doesn't seem to exist with 10.2.8 or 10.3.x other than 10.3.3 The problem does't exist with my girlfriends older iMac (G3 600 MHz - 15" CRT) I don't know if other macs have the same problem, it would be interesting to find out. I also find out it doesnt matter what kind of camera is being used. I tried a Canon G5, a Canon 300D and a Nikon D70, all having the same problems. I really hope Apple is going to release 10.3.4 soon with a fix to this problem!!! [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.3.3 (Mac OS X)

WARNING for G5 users and Canon digicams

Using MacOS 10.3.3 on my G5 - 1,8, evrything is running smooth, except a very anoying problem: my USB ports gets corupted when importing images of my Canon Digital Camera. I tested it with a Canon G5 and a D300, both the same... :( Images can't be imported or are damaged in an ugly way... All other USB equipment I have hasn't got the problem, so it has something to do with the way Canon connects, I guess... On a second partition I tested it again with a clean install 10.2.8 and updated to 10.3 : No problem. Then after updating that partition to 10.3.3 , I noticed the same problem again. Seems to be a bug in 10.3.3? I will soon test it on an iMac with 10.3.3 and will report if its a G5 only problem Someone else having the same problem? [alert admin]
