Adium X 0.52 (Mac OS X)
One you get your contact list looking as you want it with colors and fonts and spacing and transparency and whatnot save a THEME of it in the advanced prefs. Then you can move it to multiple computers or have it as a backup. Heck, go crazy and save a different theme to match every one of your desktop pictures and/or OS X (ShapeShifter) themes. Adium X 0.50 (Mac OS X)
I've been using Adium since its infancy, and IMHO this release is one of the most well developed apps for OS X. And it has the greatest, most dedicated developers ever. Adium is updated weekly! The Adium community is absolutely wonderful -- www.adiumx.com -- just check out the forums. Couldn't ask for a better IM app! [alert admin]

QuickSilver is free. And I think it will be open source. And it's got multiple clipboards. [alert admin]

I think this thing is great and haven't had these problems that you all speak of, although I have only had it for a day. I'd like to be able to have it pulse with the Beats Per Minute (BPM) of an mp3 in iTunes 4. That would be amazing. [alert admin]

iChat Streaming Icon 1.0b (Mac OS X)
This thing is so cool!! Highly recommended if you're using iChat AV to talk to people who are using PC AIM or iChat, but not OS X AIM. (Note: People using AOL's AIM for OS X will not see an animated icon, they'll only get the first frame. This is not the developer's fault, it is AOL's fault for making a bad product.) [alert admin]

AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) 4.6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
wonderful how aim for os x doesn't even refresh buddy icons, making it impossible to see someone's buddy icon animated from by the totally amazing utility called ichat streaming icon http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/VT/20531 (the pc version of aim works just fine) [alert admin]
