Mahjong Forests 1.8.2 (Mac OS X)

The predictably lame

First off this is Mah Jong, so why the medieval theme? I mean, we're not talking Pin Ball, right? The concept is trite and because of the move from the traditional Asian tiles with their similar looking characters to us non Asians, too easy. I'm a crappy Mah Jong player and I breezed through the first few levels. I was hoping the tile markings would change to present more of a challenge, but they didn't, at least as long as I played. Maybe they do later in the game, but I never got that far. Also the music is cloying (as in irritating) after a short time. Of course you can turn it off. In one word this game is BORING. Hide Folders 3.1 (Mac OS X)

Lacks security as Freeware

Here's the problem. If you don't pop for the hidden $20 charge, you can't password protect this software. So all one has to do is stumble upon the Hide Folders icon, click, open the window, make a note of what's listed, select show, and do a search for those obviously important "hidden" files. At the least, if you use this app, change its name to something else. Hide Folders invites snoopers. And make sure you keep it in a secure place...certainly not your desktop. Maybe on a flash drive. In its "free" form it's surely "use at your own risk". [alert admin]

Spring Cleaning 9.1 (Mac OS X)

History will always repeat itself.

This app has been a turkey since day one. Even the mainstream Mac press, which typically gives at least 3.5 stars to its advertisers, has never been enamored of this utility. The reviews always came out "kind of" positive, but if you read between the lines... So I'm kind of surprised that there are people out there that still get suckered in. Always check forums and read reviews from actual users before you buy junk like this. [alert admin]

Graveyard 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Simple. Nice. It works.

Save a trip to the dock to access the trash and another step to empty it afterward. Couldn't be easier. Pure Mac in its simplicity. [alert admin]

StuffIt Expander 12.0.1 (Mac OS X)

The work gets worse with every version.

Historically this has been the most obnoxious piece of free software to download. I say it every time, but this time I mean it. I will never again waste time navigating their site for a "FREE" if you can find it, download. Too much work, and besides, you've got APPLE MENU>FILE>CREATE ARCHIVE, enough said. [alert admin]

CalcBMI 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Too bad.

It's too bad that we don't measure ourselves in centimeters or weigh ourselves in kilograms here in the USA. And, frankly I don't have the patience to do conversions. This could have been a useful tool. But, I'm sure like most Americans, that I'm overweight. So the point is moot. [alert admin]

Fireflies 10.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Okay, but a little zzzzz.

First off, to Unix Maximus, this app installs and runs just fine in Tiger. Umm, maybe you didn't read the "read me". Unlike most screen savers that prompt you where to put them, this one requires that you manually place it in your User>Library>Screen savers folder. I hate when people slam an app 'cause THEY can't seem to get it to work. Anyhow, this is kinda like Solar Winds and nowhere as good as Helios. More of the same. Nothing new, but it works and the price is right. [alert admin]

The Life Record 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Not a good thing!!

This guy shouldn't be here (VersionTracker). Disappointing piece of work. I also noticed that both positive reviews were double line spaced. Hmmm? [alert admin]

NettWaer Screen Saver 1.1.2 (Mac OS X)

WTF?

This is a screensaver? Yeah, I know screensavers are useless in terms of what their name suggests. So they have come to be eye candy, as they should. But a bunch of orange squares slowly working their way around my screen. Umm? [alert admin]

UNO 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Sorry UNO

A nice touch to the Mac OS GUI, but if you're using a PC monitor like the terrific offerings from Dell or Gateway, beware! On my dell 24" flat screen (an absolute top value today) the notorious "brightness factor" makes UNO a poor choice. Sorry. [alert admin]

Design or Type

You like to see what your HTML looks like? I guess you're one of the few designers who's never heard of GoLive or Dreamweaver.
