ClickRepair 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I tried out this software, fully utilizing the trial period. I followed the documentation, reading it several times. After struggling with the application for the entire time I used it, I gave up. There doesn't seem to be any way to preview your settings. If you use the default settings, you might get good results. I did on one album. I didn't on others. I tried to make settings that corresponded with the documentation suggestions. Then I tried to preview my file to see if I hit the mark. The bar across the top of the waveform screen is worse than useless for naviation. It implies you can navigate to a particular spot in the file, but you can't. It's kinda random where you might land. This "feature" alone wasted many many hours of my time. I ended up purchasing iZotope RX. It's light years ahead of ClickRepair, and a truly professional grade piece of software. It's also far more expensive. Amazon has a much better price than the developer's web site, but it's still a LOT more money than ClickRepair. RX was worth it to me as nothing is more valuable to me than my time. All that said, I will recommend this software, but with reservations. It's probably worth the money, but I would not call it a bargain. I believe it all depends on what sort of quality you expect and how much time you have to figure it out. [alert admin]

PocketMac for BlackBerry 4.1.25 (Mac OS X)
Initially, I had decent luck with this software, but after some number of syncs, it stalls near the end of the process leaving things half done. This is crap software, poorly written, and probably never tested by a QA team. It's free, but it has cost me plenty. Maybe I'll get an iPhone... [alert admin]

LaunchBar 5.0 beta 1 (Mac OS X)
I just started using version 5, since it was just released today... Nice improvements. The clipboard manager is a good addition. I'd been using Copy/Paste Pro and will see if this can substitute. Other stuff is great, but I really just use the base functionality. The calculator, for instance, is nifty, but I'd rather use pCalc. I love the stability of LaunchBar. I don't know what the support is like since I've never needed it. I'm still surprised that a launch utility like this has no hotkey launch ability. Quicksilver does. DragThing does. This is a launcher, right? It's called "Launch"Bar. It will launch applications for sure, but never without several steps. I can open an app with QuickSilver or DragThing with a single key press. If I spend most of my time in 4 or 5 applications, and flipping between them constantly, the single key press saves a lot of time. Still... this is clearly a 5 star app. It does what it does so well, it's hard to criticize it. [alert admin]

PocketMac for BlackBerry 4.1.25 (Mac OS X)
The first time I used this app, it crashed. Subsequent uses have worked very well. Installation on another machine worked without a hitch. I'm upgrading my review, based on my experience with this thing over a few days. It's worth a shot. MUCH better than previous versions. [alert admin]

PocketMac for BlackBerry 4.1.25 (Mac OS X)
I've used previous versions of this software and it was ASTOUNDINGLY BAD! This version seems better, but on my first try to sync, it crashed partway thru the process. i was only syncing contacts from my address book.I deliberately didn't select any other sync options. It didn't sync anything. It just crashes. The previous version synced some stuff, but took about 6 hours, before I gave up and force quit the app. In my opinion, it should be able to accomplish the job in about 15 min. At the very least, it should indicate how far along it is in the process, and allow you to cancel. 6 + hours? &^%* !! so, a crash after about 60 seconds of use is better than waiting 6 hours for it to not work. Amazing that this product ever got out the door. QA is actually an important part of software development. [alert admin]

DEVONthink Pro 1.5.4 (Mac OS X)
I really wanted to like DevonTHINK, but in the week I've been trying it out, it has crashed or spun the ball three times. During that week, I was probably using DT Pro about 3 hours total. I'm ashamed to say I've not contacted Devon tech support, but that's because I can't really pinpoint what caused the crashes. I did send crash reports to Apple. I cannot recommend this product until it gets fixed. MacBook Pro running 10.5.5 with plenty of RAM and disk space. [alert admin]

CopyPaste Pro 1.0.6 (Mac OS X)
This utility is pretty great, but it won't work in Eclipse 3.3.2. Worse, it prevents Eclipse from working properly and there's no way to disable the contextual menu, unless you want to uninstall CopyPaste Pro. For me, this is a MAJOR problem. I've notified the developer of CopyPaste Pro, but have not received a response. I suspect that 1) he's a busy guy and 2) it's a difficult problem to resolve. Eclipse does its menus differently than other "normal" applications. I would love for CopyPaste Pro to just work in Eclipse, but short of that, I'd appreciate a way to disable it for individual applications. [alert admin]

CopyPaste Pro 1.0.5 (Mac OS X)
I've been using PTHPasteboard for awhile, and it's a very good clipboard manager, and it's free. I've tried it and some other clipboard managers, but found this one to be best. Others don't offer as comprehensive clipboard editing. I like the contextual menu feature on this better than the others. It's more intuitive than moving the mouse cursor to the side of the screen or some such activity necessary in other tools. I paid up for this in a hurry, as the $20 price expires tomorrow (May 31). I believe I made a great decision, but time will tell. I've only used it about two weeks... So far, it's a 5 star utility. [alert admin]

LaunchBar 4.3.6 (Mac OS X)
I agree with most of the positive remarks regarding this utility. It's indeed very stable and very useful. However, with Leopard, Spotlight does much of what LaunchBar does quite well. Command-space to bring up Spotlight, type the first few characters of an app, and hit return. The app launches. Spotlight does not remember the short character combos that LaunchBar does, but it does what it does pretty well. This makes LaunchBar a bit less unique. Kinda makes me wonder if I need both, and whether I'm willing to have two applications indexing my drive and hogging CPU cycles when one might do. The help file is lacking. For instance, I wanted to find out about the built in scripts. Where are they? How do I know what scripts are available? I see some examples listed in the help file. Is that all there are? I tried one, and the script failed. I had to edit it to make it work. Before someone tells me the scripts are located in Application Support (if they are... I've not looked), that's not the point. That info should be in the help file. So, I'm docking one star for that. I still use LaunchBar for the other features it offers, and I'm glad I own it. It's just not as unique and cool as it used to be before the Leopard enhancements to Spotlight. Still, it's a pretty excellent utility, and deserves high marks. [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 4.5 (Mac OS X)
This new version doesn't have any improvements that I find compelling. it's a major CPU hog. Seems a big slower than the previous one. Nothing much new, really. What I'm not pleased about is the version tracker service I've NOT received over the past few months. Sure the website is slow, but at least I DON'T get my email notifications of software upgrades. I paid for that... No way I'm spending money on renewal when it comes around. I feel like a chump paying for the current year. [alert admin]

If you having an issue with your system, and there are missing files, and you know know WHAT files are missing, how will you determine this? Pacifist will open an install disk and list all the files in all the directories and subdirectories and compare with what is installed on your system. Thousands and thousands of files. You can do this by hand, but I don't have the time for that. It could take days…

As a comment to my own review, subsequent launches of this application seemed to work OK. Indeed, more than 650 contacts made it to the device without a hitch in less than 60 seconds! While that shouldn't really be amazing, it's incredible compared to the previous version of this app that spent more than 6 hours trying to accomplish the same thing, and never finished. I also tried syncing calendar items, iTunes tunes, and both seemed…

I have heard from the developer, or at least one of his team. He suggested I turn off the contextual menu. When I did this, Eclipse started working properly. His suggestion was not considered a solution to the problem, but a workaround for now. That's good. I can live without the contextual menu, for now. I'm not sure how tricky this will be to fix, but I'm certain it needs fixing. It's not just Eclipse that's…

It is not just fine in leopard. On my MacBook Pro, and presumably any other Leopard install on a portable mac, there is at least one problem. install and set up Mouseworks in keyboard and mouse control panel, select Ignore trackpad when mouse is present unplug mouse put machine to sleep (might not be necessary) wake machine try to use trackpad won't work. how do you recover? if you are lucky enough to have a mouse of some kind with you,…

Great, but still missing something...
THANKS for the comments, and the good suggestions. The Assign Abbreviation thing works, but that does not get me back to the single keystroke I have with F1, F2, F3, etc. I still have to bring LB to the front, type something, and then hit return. The new LB feature, where you hold the last key down to execute the shortcut, is pretty cool, but still not the single keystroke I'm looking for. Similarly, ctl…

I don't find this program confusing. I've been using Retrospect for years, and find Backup far simpler. It's also far less capable. Incremental backups are the way to go, however. Far more efficient. As for $100 for .Mac... I never pay that. Just shop around. Amazon typically sells the .Mac package for $80. I buy that, and enter the enclosed serial number in the .Mac renewal screen, and wham. I'm good for another year.

This is an editor of the decade!
I agree with some of your comments. But, CVS support is still critical. Telling me subversion is better is sorta silly. Of course it's better. You want to come over here and convert about 35 CVS repositories to Subversion, including the history, and do it for free? We're using subversion for new projects going forward, but that doesn't answer the question of using TextMate for CVS. It's a missing feature, and it's important. I don't have problems…

It won't connect to my databases
I'm not surprised. This new version doesn't seem to come with any JDBC drivers, or any instructions on how to get them. It doesn't tell you how to install them if you do get them. It's a beta... If you want to use this beta, I'd recommend downloading the current released version and use the JDBC drivers that come with it. Note that if you launch the version 1 SQLGrinder, it will generate a prefs file.…

Changing the permissions on the disk check worked fine, but the installer failed at the final step, giving me a vague error and a "Please try installing again." I did, and it errored again. This package needs to go back to Apple for a redo.
