CopyPaste Pro 1.0.6 (Mac OS X)
This utility is pretty great, but it won't work in Eclipse 3.3.2. Worse, it prevents Eclipse from working properly and there's no way to disable the contextual menu, unless you want to uninstall CopyPaste Pro. For me, this is a MAJOR problem. I've notified the developer of CopyPaste Pro, but have not received a response. I suspect that 1) he's a busy guy and 2) it's a difficult problem to resolve. Eclipse does its menus differently than other "normal" applications. I would love for CopyPaste Pro to just work in Eclipse, but short of that, I'd appreciate a way to disable it for individual applications. [alert admin]

CopyPaste Pro 1.0.5 (Mac OS X)
I've been using PTHPasteboard for awhile, and it's a very good clipboard manager, and it's free. I've tried it and some other clipboard managers, but found this one to be best. Others don't offer as comprehensive clipboard editing. I like the contextual menu feature on this better than the others. It's more intuitive than moving the mouse cursor to the side of the screen or some such activity necessary in other tools. I paid up for this in a hurry, as the $20 price expires tomorrow (May 31). I believe I made a great decision, but time will tell. I've only used it about two weeks... So far, it's a 5 star utility. [alert admin]

LaunchBar 4.3.6 (Mac OS X)
I agree with most of the positive remarks regarding this utility. It's indeed very stable and very useful. However, with Leopard, Spotlight does much of what LaunchBar does quite well. Command-space to bring up Spotlight, type the first few characters of an app, and hit return. The app launches. Spotlight does not remember the short character combos that LaunchBar does, but it does what it does pretty well. This makes LaunchBar a bit less unique. Kinda makes me wonder if I need both, and whether I'm willing to have two applications indexing my drive and hogging CPU cycles when one might do. The help file is lacking. For instance, I wanted to find out about the built in scripts. Where are they? How do I know what scripts are available? I see some examples listed in the help file. Is that all there are? I tried one, and the script failed. I had to edit it to make it work. Before someone tells me the scripts are located in Application Support (if they are... I've not looked), that's not the point. That info should be in the help file. So, I'm docking one star for that. I still use LaunchBar for the other features it offers, and I'm glad I own it. It's just not as unique and cool as it used to be before the Leopard enhancements to Spotlight. Still, it's a pretty excellent utility, and deserves high marks. [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 4.5 (Mac OS X)
This new version doesn't have any improvements that I find compelling. it's a major CPU hog. Seems a big slower than the previous one. Nothing much new, really. What I'm not pleased about is the version tracker service I've NOT received over the past few months. Sure the website is slow, but at least I DON'T get my email notifications of software upgrades. I paid for that... No way I'm spending money on renewal when it comes around. I feel like a chump paying for the current year. [alert admin]

LaunchBar 4.3.2 (Mac OS X)
I have praised this application before. It can be a timesaver. I miss its lack of hotkey support, where I can type 1 key to launch an application I use frequently. Quicksilver, Butler, DragThing all have this very handy feature that should be in LaunchBar. It is a launcher, right? That's old news. What I find troublesome currently is the application's sluggish performance. Sometimes, I hit command-space, type a few chars, and up comes my requested application. Other times, and rather frequently, I do the same thing and wait what seems like an eternity for LaunchBar to respond. I have the cataloging set to once a day, to minimize the overhead of that process. Activity Monitor says my machine is loafing (MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz). Manually switching to the app I want is instantaneous. The part that I find most concerning is support from the developer. I contacted their support staff about a week ago regarding the problems I'm having, and have received no response. Perhaps I'm doing something that affects the performance of LB. Perhaps there's a setting on LB I should use. Who knows? I have quit LB and am relying on one of the many other launcher apps for now. LB is terrific when it works right. It doesn't work right, right now. It's outa here. [alert admin]

MoRU 1.3.5 (Mac OS X)
I can't explain why VersionTracker does not list FileSpot, but MoRU has evolved into FileSpot. Go to the MoRU site, and you will be redirected. MacUpdate has it listed properly. That said, FileSpot is pretty nice, but a bit unstable on my MacBook Pro. MoRU was sorta useful, but not enough for me to purchase it. That's just me. I can see where others would LOVE this thing. I love they way LaunchBar works. I can quickly switch between any application on my machine. I can browse folders. I can find address book entries and use them in the current application. It's a great launcher, and very stable. The way it works is just elegant. I paid for it years ago, and have got my money's worth several times over. It's missing something that Quicksilver and Butler and DragThing all have. Hotkey launches. I have used one key press to flip between iTerm, Mail, Safari and BBEdit for years. I use these applications all the time, every day, and need to switch between them all the time, every day. By hitting F1, I quickly go to iTerm. I hear an email message come in, and I hit F2. Back to code editing, hit F5 for BBEdit. I don't have to hit ctl-space,<pause> "it", return....ctl-space,<pause>,"ma", return ....ctl-space,<pause>,"bb", return I would rather hit F1, F2, F5. I can relearn how to flip between these apps, by doing the LaunchBar march, but I'd rather not. So, I've resorted to running LaunchBar and DragThing. I could just use Butler or Quicksilver, they don't do the things LaunchBar does as well. I wish LaunchBar would just add the hotkey feature. Guess I can't have everything. [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 4124.0 (Mac OS X)
the new features are cool, and the performance is quite noticeably better. I like that part. But, I've had Parallels crash twice in two days. Another problem was, upon starting a suspended session, none of the windows were usable. They were basically a window frame with trashed content. A bigger problem is how unstable it has made my network connections on the OS X side. In particular, I use Cisco VPN on the Mac side to connect to work. If I run Parallels after a reboot, the Cisco app won't connect and throws an error 51. If I don't run Parallels after a reboot, Cisco VPN works fine. Parallels is perhaps hosing up routing or something? Regardless, this thing is crashing too much for my taste. I anxiously await an update. [alert admin]

Bookdog 4.2.2 (Mac OS X)
Indeed, I can't break this application the way I had with the previous version. I've spent many hours cleaning up a ridiculous mess of bookmarks, accumulated over many years. Bookdog makes this cleanup process pretty easy. I had hundreds and hundreds of bookmarks from multiple browsers, most of which had been collecting dust. I never cleaned up the mess because the process within the individual browser bookmark managers was tedious. Bookdog saves the day. Add the excellent customer support, and this app becomes a "must have." [alert admin]

Bookdog 4.2.1 (Mac OS X)
I love this utility. The way it's designed, the feature set, the clever interface and the intuitive way it works. Unfortunately, for the few weeks I've had it, it has crashed fairly often. I fire it up, it thinks a long time, and then boom. Four times in two weeks. That's not very good. I will contact the developer, but this is disappointing for a version 4.2 level application. I suspect another bug fix is on the way, if others are experiencing similar crashing. I use a MacBook Pro, Mac OS X 1.4.9 [alert admin]

I have heard from the developer, or at least one of his team. He suggested I turn off the contextual menu. When I did this, Eclipse started working properly. His suggestion was not considered a solution to the problem, but a workaround for now. That's good. I can live without the contextual menu, for now. I'm not sure how tricky this will be to fix, but I'm certain it needs fixing. It's not just Eclipse that's…

It is not just fine in leopard. On my MacBook Pro, and presumably any other Leopard install on a portable mac, there is at least one problem. install and set up Mouseworks in keyboard and mouse control panel, select Ignore trackpad when mouse is present unplug mouse put machine to sleep (might not be necessary) wake machine try to use trackpad won't work. how do you recover? if you are lucky enough to have a mouse of some kind with you,…

THANKS for the comments, and the good suggestions. The Assign Abbreviation thing works, but that does not get me back to the single keystroke I have with F1, F2, F3, etc. I still have to bring LB to the front, type something, and then hit return. The new LB feature, where you hold the last key down to execute the shortcut, is pretty cool, but still not the single keystroke I'm looking for. Similarly, ctl…

I don't find this program confusing. I've been using Retrospect for years, and find Backup far simpler. It's also far less capable. Incremental backups are the way to go, however. Far more efficient. As for $100 for .Mac... I never pay that. Just shop around. Amazon typically sells the .Mac package for $80. I buy that, and enter the enclosed serial number in the .Mac renewal screen, and wham. I'm good for another year.

I agree with some of your comments. But, CVS support is still critical. Telling me subversion is better is sorta silly. Of course it's better. You want to come over here and convert about 35 CVS repositories to Subversion, including the history, and do it for free? We're using subversion for new projects going forward, but that doesn't answer the question of using TextMate for CVS. It's a missing feature, and it's important. I don't have problems…

I'm not surprised. This new version doesn't seem to come with any JDBC drivers, or any instructions on how to get them. It doesn't tell you how to install them if you do get them. It's a beta... If you want to use this beta, I'd recommend downloading the current released version and use the JDBC drivers that come with it. Note that if you launch the version 1 SQLGrinder, it will generate a prefs file.…

Changing the permissions on the disk check worked fine, but the installer failed at the final step, giving me a vague error and a "Please try installing again." I did, and it errored again. This package needs to go back to Apple for a redo.
