SixtyFourSwitcher 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Does exactly what it says it does. Whilst there are other apps to do this (and it's easy enough to change the option manually), it seems logical that this should be a prefpane choice. [alert admin]

Why in the name of all that's holy would anyone want the Godawful Windows taskbar on their Mac? Let alone this incompletely designed piece of crud (yes, I couldn't help myself - I just had to try it - it's like rubbernecking at a car wreck, you know it's wrong but you can't help yourself)... Avoid. [alert admin]

Mailplane 2.0.7 (Mac OS X)
A surprisingly useful little app. It's easy to assume that a web browser is the best way of accessing a web-based mail service, but MailPlane adds a lot of extra functionality and is a whole lot easier than trying to manage a gmail account via Mail.app. I wasn't entirely sure MailPlane was for me when I first started using it, but now I find that I miss the extra functionality whenever I'm reduced to accessing GMail via Safari. A great little app for the Gmail power user. Maybe just a tad on the expensive side, but useful enough to warrant it, imho. [alert admin]

Mailplane 2.0.7 (Mac OS X)
The reviewer below is missing the point. This app makes gmail much more useable. Multiple accounts are handled with ease. The user interface is far more friendly and efficient. Sure, on a 5 minute trial (which is what I assume the previous reviewer did), the similarities are the first thing that you notice (which is a GOOD thing), but given a little more time you'll wonder how you ever used Gmail via a browers (or regular email client, for that matter). Well worth the registration fee. Highly recommended. [alert admin]

CLIX 2.0.0.3 (Mac OS X)
A first-class utility that no serious Mac user should be without. No matter how handy you are with the terminal, you can't possibly remember every command that's available in Clix. Kudos to Rixstep for continuing to maintain this invaluable piece of software - and keeping it free! [alert admin]

AppleJack 1.5 (Mac OS X)

AppleJack had long been an essential part of my toolkit for the Macs I manage, and whilst it does nothing that can't be done other ways, it is nevertheless a very convenient packaging of a bunch of useful features. I was very sorry to lose it when it broke under Leopard, but delight to have it working again. I can see that I'll be spending a happy hour or so tomorrow installing it on all the Macs I support. Another donation will be winging its way to the cause shortly. [alert admin]

Missing Sync for Windows Mobile 4.0.3 (Mac OS X)
In the past, whilst MissingSync has always worked well for me once I've gotten it to behave, the upgrade process has always been a nightmare - each time I've had to delete all my sync data, back up all my contacts etc, do a hard reset of my PDA (actually a WM smartphone) and start again from scratch. I was delighted, therefore, when the upgrade to the latest version worked smoothly, giving me no problems whatsoever. First time ever (in around 3 years of use). Thank Gawd! It's good to see mounting of the PDA as a volume returning - in all other respects, MissingSync continues to be an essential part of my workflow - one of those software products I would have difficulty managing without. (I know others have had problems, but other than the upgrade issue it's always been well-behaved for me - that's over several computers and two 'phones). [alert admin]

OmniGraffle Pro 5.0 (Mac OS X)
It's sad that so many people consider Omnigraffle Pro expensive - personally I still consider it excellent value (take a look at Visio's pricing for comparison) - and there's always the standard version of the product, which is significantly cheaper. Certainly when I originally upgraded to the 'Pro' version when it first appeared, my immediate feeling was that it was ridiculously cheap by comparison with Visio, SmartDraw and similar applications. Personally, upgrading to v5 was a no-brainer, as Omnigraffle Pro is one of my most used apps, and has been for years (I've been using it pretty much since the beginning). I use it almost daily for a massive range of work projects: network diagrams, flow charts, organisational charts, planning of web sites, signs for our noticeboard (it's quick than using InDesign for small internal projects), I even used it to produce a very complex map recently. It's one of those software tools that I really don't know how anyone can manage without - and is, for me, one of the real Mac 'Killer applications' I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Omnigraffle gets my vote for being the best-designed application on the platform. Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection 2.0b3 (Mac OS X)
I'm wondering just how long this is going to remain in beta. Yes, it works, but the recent gap between previous beta expiry and new beta has made me re-think my usage of this app. I'm Mac-based, but admin a mixed Mac/Windows network (including Windows servers), so NEED RDC on a daily basis. The recent beta expiry encouraged me to expunge all traces of MS RDC from my system and switch to CoRD, which is just as reliable, just as fast and has a better GUI - especially if you need to connect to large numbers of machines. Unlike a lot of Mac folks, I'm not anti-Microsoft - I use and like a wide range of their products, but I think they've dropped the ball with RDC - it's taking an unfeasibly long time to update such a relatively minor application. Outspring Mail 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
It's a good attempt - the auto-filtering idea is well implemented and the GUI is pleasant to use. Before it can tempt me away from other things, however, it needs to offer manually-configurable rules alongside the auto-filtering, along with a plain text option in both viewer and compose window. I'll be watching future builds with interest... [alert admin]

Yes, I use .doc format in Nisus on a daily basis as I work in a Windows-based corporate environment. I'm a very heavy user of the application & do not find it slow on the hardware I use. I stand by my previous statement.

You didn't look far - there's a setting in the prefs to configure Nisus to save in MS word format by default... And yes, it's the perfect replacement for word - easily the best WP on the Mac platform at present.

The applications you mention are primarily app launchers. Neither one even scratches the surface of what Launchbar can do: move files, do google, imdb and amazon searches from the desktop, manipulate directories, do calculations, access addressbook, manipulate iCal data and vastly more. I suggest that in future you try to understand the application you're reviewing before you post such specious nonsense.

99.9% likely that it's a problem with your profile (possibly an extension). Backup your bookmarks then rename or move your existing profile so that FF will create a new one.

I'm a systems administrator and manage our network from a desktop Mac. I do, however, need access to two Windows applications - a call manager for our Avaya phone system and, occasionally, Outlook (Entourage won't do). Why should I bother to have a second computer on my desk when for a lot less cost I can run those two applications easily on the Mac?

I had this problem with the first release of DF4 - something about having the links panel active tended to crash ID every time DF4 showed its face. I haven't seen the issue with more recent builds, though - the current and previous builds have been totally solid with ID CS3 here (which is fortunate, given that I spend a good part of my day in it!).
