Missing Sync for Windows Mobile 4.0.3 (Mac OS X)
In the past, whilst MissingSync has always worked well for me once I've gotten it to behave, the upgrade process has always been a nightmare - each time I've had to delete all my sync data, back up all my contacts etc, do a hard reset of my PDA (actually a WM smartphone) and start again from scratch. I was delighted, therefore, when the upgrade to the latest version worked smoothly, giving me no problems whatsoever. First time ever (in around 3 years of use). Thank Gawd! It's good to see mounting of the PDA as a volume returning - in all other respects, MissingSync continues to be an essential part of my workflow - one of those software products I would have difficulty managing without. (I know others have had problems, but other than the upgrade issue it's always been well-behaved for me - that's over several computers and two 'phones). [alert admin]

OmniGraffle Pro 5.0 (Mac OS X)
It's sad that so many people consider Omnigraffle Pro expensive - personally I still consider it excellent value (take a look at Visio's pricing for comparison) - and there's always the standard version of the product, which is significantly cheaper. Certainly when I originally upgraded to the 'Pro' version when it first appeared, my immediate feeling was that it was ridiculously cheap by comparison with Visio, SmartDraw and similar applications. Personally, upgrading to v5 was a no-brainer, as Omnigraffle Pro is one of my most used apps, and has been for years (I've been using it pretty much since the beginning). I use it almost daily for a massive range of work projects: network diagrams, flow charts, organisational charts, planning of web sites, signs for our noticeboard (it's quick than using InDesign for small internal projects), I even used it to produce a very complex map recently. It's one of those software tools that I really don't know how anyone can manage without - and is, for me, one of the real Mac 'Killer applications' I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Omnigraffle gets my vote for being the best-designed application on the platform. Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection 2.0b3 (Mac OS X)
I'm wondering just how long this is going to remain in beta. Yes, it works, but the recent gap between previous beta expiry and new beta has made me re-think my usage of this app. I'm Mac-based, but admin a mixed Mac/Windows network (including Windows servers), so NEED RDC on a daily basis. The recent beta expiry encouraged me to expunge all traces of MS RDC from my system and switch to CoRD, which is just as reliable, just as fast and has a better GUI - especially if you need to connect to large numbers of machines. Unlike a lot of Mac folks, I'm not anti-Microsoft - I use and like a wide range of their products, but I think they've dropped the ball with RDC - it's taking an unfeasibly long time to update such a relatively minor application. Outspring Mail 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
It's a good attempt - the auto-filtering idea is well implemented and the GUI is pleasant to use. Before it can tempt me away from other things, however, it needs to offer manually-configurable rules alongside the auto-filtering, along with a plain text option in both viewer and compose window. I'll be watching future builds with interest... [alert admin]

VectorDesigner 1.0.3.1138 (Mac OS X)
Shows a lot of promise. Not quite an Illustrator competitor yet, but has a superb UI and handles basic vector illustration requirements very well - especially given the cost. The obvious competition is Stone Design's Create, which is rather more powerful, but less intuititive (I've tried hard to get along with it since the NeXTSTEP days, but never quite made it). I've registered and look forward to further development with interest. It's my hope that within the next couple of major revisions, we'll see a viable alternative to Illustrator. In the meantime, it's a lot of fun to use and could be considered a 'MacDraw' for the 21st century =] [alert admin]

Interarchy 9.0 (Mac OS X)
Interarchy has long been one of the most powerful FTP clients available regardless of platform, but Nolobe have really excelled themselves with this release - in particular a vastly improved GUI and file handling over ssh (rather than sftp), which is going to be very handy for a lot of power users. Oh, and to the reviewer below who suggested 'boycotting' such a fine product, all I can say is get a grip - your comments are nonsensical. Yes, there are plenty of free FTP clients out there (Cyberduck probably being the best of 'em), and they're going to be fine for casual use. If that's all you need, then go for it. None, however, offer the feature set and sheer power of Interarchy which, for power users, has long been one of the best FTP clients on any platform and well worth the license fee. [alert admin]

I sympathise with those having problems, but - at least from my own experience - it seems that the secret for success with MissingSync is that whenever you install a new version, you delete all of the support files for the old version (including the sync files in ~/library/application support) AND do a hard reset / wipe of the PDA (making sure you have everything backed up first!). Yes, it's a pain, but it's worked every time for me... I've been doing this since version 3.0 over two different HTC-based pda phones, and have had precisely zero problems since I worked out what needed to be done. Having gone through the process a few times now, I have it down to a fine art and find it only takes about 20 minutes to do an upgrade and re-sync. I'll admit that this is far from ideal, and certainly I think twice about installing a new build unless (as in this case) I need it for compatibility with new phone or operating system, BUT having said that, once done, I've found MissingSync to be FAR more reliable (and useful!) than Microsoft's ActiveSync for Windows. I'd give it 5 stars if version upgrades weren't such a pain in the bum. Once you've got it working it's a terrific little utility. [alert admin]

VMware Fusion 1.1.62573 (Mac OS X)
I work in a Windows-centric company (we have a couple of Macs, but 98% of our machines are Windows), and I was dubious whether VMWare would be reliable enough for me to be able to get the spare Windows box off my desk. Well, I've been running the last beta of 1.1 continuously with XP for the last week on a 20" iMac and it's been totally solid, running the few remaining Windows apps I need (notably the Goldmine CRM) and logged into our domain without a problem. I just hit a Spaces hotkey, and there's XP running happily! Bye bye beige box! =] [alert admin]

Not quite as compatible with Word as I might have hoped (I work in a largely windows/MSoffice-centric office and have encountered a few minor but irritating formatting glitches when sharing documents with other users). The end result of this being that I've registered a copy for personal use, but won't be buying another licence for work just yet (NeoOffice being that bit more compatible although less pleasant to use). Despite the above, NWP still gets my vote for the best WP on the market - vastly superior to Word:Mac and generally a joy to use, being both stable and intuitive. Improved cross-platform document compatibility would be the icing on the cake and would elicit the 5th star. [alert admin]

Little Snitch 2.0 beta 6 (Mac OS X)
Much improved interface and the network monitoring is extremely useful whilst not being intrusive. Current beta has been 100% stable so far here. Little Snitch was always a must-have utility (along with ObDev's other gem, Launchbar), and version 2 is sufficiently better than v1 (not to mention being compatible with Leopard) as to make upgrading a complete no-brainer. Highly recommended! [alert admin]

I had this problem with the first release of DF4 - something about having the links panel active tended to crash ID every time DF4 showed its face. I haven't seen the issue with more recent builds, though - the current and previous builds have been totally solid with ID CS3 here (which is fortunate, given that I spend a good part of my day in it!).

Interesting.... I'm finding the aqua build of OOo 3 beta to be rather faster than NeoOffice, but that's on a couple of Intel Macs. Either way, though, I agree - it sure beats being stuck with MS Office =]

1. I'm a registered customer. 2. You are making baseless accusations. If you have a complaint, direct it to Versiontracker rather than continuing to be a complete waste of bandwidth 3. GET OVER YOURSELF

Yes, I agree. Plaxo hosed my Address book too. Fortunately I had a backup, so I dumped Plaxo and went back to .Mac, which works reliably, albeit slowly.

Kindly take your grudges elsewhere..... A one-star review containing a comment about a previous review is hardly appropriate. If you have doubts about the veracity of another post, the correct approach is to use the 'alert admin' button and file a complaint.

only because you'd already got it configured. Current LS is no different from the old one in that respect - you need to put up with the alerts for a day or two until you've got most of 'em set up. Remember - the new version does not use your old config files

A couple of points. Coda already supports the system spellcheck (although personally I'm dubious of the usefulness of a spellcheck when writing code - just my opinion, though). Secondly, HTML Tidy support is easily added via the services menu. Just look for the Tidy service here on VersionTracker - it works well.

Uhm. It's IMAP. If it breaks tomorrow, all you have to do is switch to another client. No lost data. If we were talking POP, then it would be another matter, but POP is not Mulberry's forte and if that's what you need, you'd better look elsewhere
