Adobe Bridge CS3 2.1 (Mac OS X)

And this is supposed to do what?

This update diding do anything other than to say it had an error trying to find which application it needed to update. Geezz, if it can't what Adobe it needs to update, then how do you know that it's doing the right thng when it does? Forget this update and save yourself wondering what happened. [alert admin]

iPhoto Library Manager 3.3.3 (Mac OS X)

What iPhoto is missing

A very cool program and well worth the price. I don't understand why Apple hasn't incorporated this into iPhoto. This completes iPhoto for me. [alert admin]

Symantec Norton AntiVirus 9.0.3 (Mac OS X)

How do I update?

Hi: I purchased Norton Utilities for the Macintosh within the last six months -- it came in a two pack with both the Utilities and the Anti-virus packages bound together. The Utility version says its' 8.0.2 and the AntiVirus version says it's 9.0.3. The "Live Update" for the virus always reports that it just downloaded 8.3MB of new Virus Defs, but it always reports that -- over and over again. That doesn't instill me with confidence that I am actually getting the most current virus update. Version Tracker states that the most current version for AntiVirus is 10.0.0.1, but clicking the "Download" in Version Tracker dumps you to Symantec's web site showing Norton AntiVirus is 10.0, but no clear way to upgrade from 9 to 10. I'm frustrated -- the product never worked as advertised -- and, I'm not confident that the newer version will work any better. This is not my first purchase of this product type from Norton (with over ten years of purchases), but I think it will be my last. tedd tedd@sperling.com [alert admin]

CocoaMySQL 0.5 (Mac OS X)

No connect

While I have several applications that connect to my server (such as, Fetch, Browsers, GoLive, Dreamweaver, etc.), this critter couldn't connect -- and, if it doesn't connect, then nothing else matters.

To bad, it looks like a nice piece of software, but falls considerably short on documentation and doing what it says it can do..

Adobe SVG Viewer X 3.0 (Mac OS X)

I don't get it.

Hi:

I'm sure that this would be a great plug-in, if it worked. The point is that Apple's current Safari (v1.2.4) won't use it. While it will acknowledge that it has the plug-in installed, it will not use the plug-in to view any svg files. So, what's the point?

FutureBASIC 4.0r1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Simply the Best !

I highly recommend FutureBasic (all versions). I've been using FB for over ten years and am very impressed with both the language and the level of technical support -- which in my opinion are simply the best available.

I've programmed in numerous other languages (including C++) and find that FB is the best supported, not only by its makers (i.e., Staz Software), but by other FB programmers via the FB list server. The list server has literally hundreds of FB programmers (including Staz) attending and answering all types of questions from newbie level to advanced leading-edge specifics. I find that the followers of FB are a religious cult of fine professional people passionately dedicated to supporting FB -- they are in affect a mirror of the product they support.

As for FB not providing OOP support, I take that as a plus! FB provides a truly RAD environment for creating fast Macintosh applications in a fraction of the time to do the same thing in C++. As for large projects, which require large development teams, then OOP may have some validity, but for every application that I've been involved with, there hasn't been a single problem that FB hasn't provided an easy way to accomplish. In fact, when clients hire me to write in C++, I often turn to FB to create demo's for their approval before starting. I wish more clients would just concentrate on what they wanted instead of picking what language their application should be developed in,

So, in my opinion, if you want to do serious Mac development, or even learn basic programming, then you can do no better than FutureBasic.

SiteSucker 1.5.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Site Sucker is Great!

Hi: This is a great little program -- it does exactly what it says it will do. If you want to get (download) everything that is on a web site, then this baby will do it for you. No more guessing at what may be there, this program finds everything and download accordingly. In my opinion, it's a "must have" for any web developer that wants to see how the other guy did something. A bit sneaky, but if you don't want it made public, then don't put it on the net. tedd@spamcop.net [alert admin]
