1Password 2.5.12 (Mac OS X)

Great software

I'm really impressed by 1Password. It works really well and the developer issues regular updates. Their customer support is also excellent. Highly recommended. [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 2.4.0 (Mac OS X)

I had to uninstall this version

Version 2.4 seemed great at first and then I began to experience some strange behaviour. After my Mac had been running for a while, when I tried to drag and drop, I could only drag. The cursor refused to let go of what I was trying to drop and the only way out was to force quit the application and then restart. This happened repeatedly until I uninstalled Logitech's driver. Since then things are back to normal. [alert admin]

CheckBook 1.8 (Mac OS X)

Very impressed

I bought CheckBook a few days ago having played with it for while. I haven't been disappointed. I like the way it sets out to do a few things well. It has a nice interface and it's very easy to use. Previously I had tried both iBank (which I never managed to get to work for me) and MoneyDance (which did what I needed but whose interface was unattractive and a bit clunky – too many clicks involved in, say, importing the latest transactions from my bank account). Overall, then, a big thumbs up for CheckBook. [alert admin]

Auction Hunter 0.9.9.12 (Mac OS X)

Fantastic software

I guess one of the signs of a great product is when you stop noticing it and start taking it for granted. That's what I've done with Auction Hunter. I've been using it now since March and I've got to the point where I really can't imagine being without it. The developer is incredibly responsive and helpful and has brought Auction Hunter on in leaps and bounds. Originally I used it as a replacement for JBidWatcher and now it's largely replaced AuctionSieve as well (though right now it lacks AuctionSieve's filtering capability). This is powerful, elegant software that deserves to succeed. [alert admin]

Auction Hunter 0.9.9.11 (Mac OS X)

The best eBay sniping tool

This is a wonderfully full-featured, elegant solution for those of us who spend a lot of time searching eBay and leaving snipes. I've been using it since the early betas and it's rarely let me down. The author is very responsive and each new version seems to improve on the previous ones. The addition of hot items and labels is, for me, a major step forward. If Auction Hunter could incorporate the search abilities of AuctionSieve it would be the perfect tool. [alert admin]

Now Up-to-Date & Contact 5.3 (Mac OS X)

Dialer doesn't work

Version 5.3 breaks the dialler. I've reported this to Now. They're aware of the problem and acknowledge it. [alert admin]

Auction Hunter 0.9.9.3 (Mac OS X)

Shaping up nicely

I’ve been trying out this software for a day or so now and I really like it. Up to now I’ve been using JBidWatch which I’ve found to be simple and reliable. Two factors sway me towards Auction Hunter. It’s written in Cocoa rather than Java which gives it a nicer, more Mac-like interface. And it’s more fully featured. The built-in search facility is seriously useful, particularly the ability to keep an eye on one’s favourite sellers. I’ll probably buy Auction Hunter when it comes out of beta but how could it be improved? Well, good as the search facility is, I’d love the flexibility offered by AuctionSieve, in particular the ability to search in multiple specific sub-categories and to use filters to prioritise and hide defined items (including those already viewed). Good as the interface is, I’d like it even more if it let me manually mark items as viewed or unviewed along the lines that Apple Mail does with messages. And it would be great if Auction Hunter’s interface were more configurable – I’d particularly like to be able to change the font size and perhaps even the font. [alert admin]

DiskWarrior 3.0.3 (Mac OS X)

No problems here

Downloaded the updater a few hours ago and used it to burn a new CD containing DiskWarrior 3.0.3. The updater worked like a charm. Booted from the CD to examine my hard disk which I'd updated to Tiger (Delete and Install) about a week ago but which crashed erratically (endlessly spinning pizza). DiskWarrior discovered over 40 errors on the disk which it repaired. I've now rebooted without a problem although it's too early to know whether the erratic behaviour has been rectified. OmniWeb 5.0 beta 7 (Mac OS X)

Much more stable

Beta 7 seems to be much more stable than the previous betas. The only site I've so far had problems with is my banking site. If I try to close the browser window without first logging out of the site then Omniweb crashes every time. Apart from that it's been so well behaved and impressive that I finally bought a license and made it my default browser. [alert admin]

OmniWeb 5.0 beta 6.1 (Mac OS X)

Still full of bugs

I'd really like to make Omniweb my default browser. It has a great feature set and a nice user interface. I've tried each of the betas in turn and this one still keeps crashing on me. It did so four times in the space of 10 minutes this afternoon. That was in spite of deleting all the preference and other associated files and rebuilding from scratch. So frustrating :-( [alert admin]

Hey-its 8 months later...

I agree. I'd grown used to relying on Applejack on my iBook and now that I've upgraded to a MacBook Pro I'm definitely missing it. Update please!

Ugh!

I don't know what's going on here but I've been using Auction Hunter for well over a month now and it's performed flawlessly for me. I must have sniped about 20 auctions during that time and no problems at all. For me this is the most fully featured, most reliable and best designed sniping tool available for the Mac.

Crashing

I'd like to second this. I've been using PathFinder for a few months now and found it to be very reliable. I paid for a license and haven't regretted it. It's a great application.

Why I gave a low customer support score

I left just one star for customer support purely because full documentation isn't yet available. Once it is I'll be uprating the score accordingly. In the meanwhile my impression is that the developer is very responsive.
