Today 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Brilliant and simple idea, and it also works great on my Mac (10.5.2). My only gripe is that I think $15 is too much. At this price, it's cheaper just to open iCal. However you could twist my arm at $10 if it also came as an iPod Touch/ iPhone App ready for June release at the App store? [alert admin]

CADintosh 6.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Ribbonsoft's QCad is far better!
While it is great that CADintosh is a Mac native application, IMO, it is simply too strange an application to learn, to understand and to get to grips with in a short period of time (trust me, I have a BSc in CAD!). Ribbonsoft's QCad, while being written in the Trolltech framework, is not a 'real' Mac application, it runs very well on both Intel and PPC versions of OS X as well as Windows and Linux. QCad is also slightly cheaper (although admittedly it does work on the 'one licence per year' system), but it works- very well in fact, and fortunately, is a lot easier to use. QCad also translates very well into Google SketchUp, making the pair an excellent bargain-price architectural visualisation system. The biggest downfall with CADintosh was that it seems so sluggish even with an Intel processor. It's display and layout is more like Mac OS9. Okay nothing wrong with that apart from OS X is now 8 years old, but more to the point, I couldn't share any drawings with other people who choose to use different platforms, ie Windows and Linux. Because QCad is multiplatform, this makes sharing with other designers possible, and best of all it makes it possible for others to see that the Macintosh is a viable platform for engineering as well as architecture, and in this "we're all hungry for AutoCAD, but we don't really know why" world, us, as Mac users need software like QCad more than ever if we are to show that Mac isn't just for music and pretty pictures. Of course, when we've achieved worldwide OS X domination, then we can write every application under the sun in beautiful Cocoa, but until that time arrives........... [alert admin]

VMware Fusion 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)
VMware 1.1.1 works fine in Leopard 10.5.2!
I simply don't know what some people mean when they say that VMware Fusion is not working in 10.5.2?? FWIW, I have Fusion running here right now on my MBpro running version 1.1.1 in Leopard 10.5.2!! VMware Fusion has been a godsend for me (as a Mac-using student in a largely XP-based university) and I can wholeheartedly recommend it! Very much looking forward to the next update, which I am told, has better graphics capability. This will be great because I use VMware for both Autodesk 3D Studio Max and Solidworks. [alert admin]

Live Interior 3D 1.5 (Mac OS X)
I'm pretty impressed with Live Interior 3D (especially as this latest build is far snappier than previous builds), however I'm confused about the behaviour of the 3D rotating tools. It is possible to rotate a object ready to be imported, and this works really well- in the bottom left-hand corner of the library palette, but try doing this in the main page, and I start getting frustrated as it is cack-handed and badly implemented. Why? Live Interior 3D also needs to accept Cheetah3D files as import too. Come on you guys, why do all Mac 3D applications only contain import options for software that is only Windows based, such as 3DS Max?? >>Believe<< in our beloved platform!! Also all these 3D apps need more attention to how the mouse and keyboard work together- like option, alt and ctrl keys for eg. Once upon a time there was a standard- now all seems forgotten. :( I'll probably purchase this, and then moan to the developer instead ;) [alert admin]

HighDesign 1.8 (Mac OS X)
Why oh why, did I waste my money on MacDraft? HighDesign looks (and works) so much better! When was the last time Microspot gave us a decent upgrade???......HighDesign, with parametric windows too?! Yes please!!! Now to convince the rest of the world that actually, AutoCAD isn't all that great- well it isn't, is it? [alert admin]

Kinemac 1.6.0 (Mac OS X)
Could this be the 3DS Max killer the Mac has been waiting for? ![]()

I had a few teething problems like an initial crash when opening a file (I'm sure that this will be fixed very soon), but when Kinemac worked my jaw just dropped to the floor proceeded by my eyes almost popping out from their sockets!!! If there is any application that shows off how fabulously great Apple's OSX Quartz graphics capabilities really are, then it's this Kinemac software! Once Kinemac can import Cheetah 3D files (you can already import Sketch-up and ViaCAD files as OBJ/ 3ds files), and/ or Kinemac's own CAD engine is improved, sales of 3D Studio Max will fall- dramatically, believe me! Especially as Kinemac only costs $250!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A couple more things, Kinemac needs its own built in help files, rather than relying on an internet connection, and data entry needs to be made easier/ simpler/ quicker- like for eg, pulling a handle up and down to rapidly input coordinates etc- like on Cheetah 3D/ 3DS Max. I know the developers will sort this out sooner or later. What is already there, is already as it stands, simply mindblowing- especially for a product still in its infancy. Buy it. Buy it now! =0) [alert admin]

Apple Pages 3.0.2 (Mac OS X)

I've been using iWork now in an institution (university) hell-bent on using Microsoft Word and other Microsoft products. Not that I totally dislike Microsoft, but I do agree with Jobs; Microsoft lack ideas, charisma and Mac OSX. However I wonder if Pages is actually made by Microsoft? Now there there's a thought! Why do I think this? Because I've now had a couple of doc format files sent to me by other students, and they seem to unlock 'hidden features' in Pages that I swear weren't there before, like the 'list' pull down menu gives more options like extra indents and stuff. - Try it for yourself! Apart from that, and a few minor quibbles, I love Pages. I don't find it slow (although my Mac is an Intel job with 3 gigs of memory). Pages is well written and thought out and makes a great wordprocessor/ DTP system for Macintosh . Highly recommended! Go buy a copy today! =0) [alert admin]

Quote; "Windows users are still out of luck when it comes to the official SDK, though developers are currently seeking alternative, Windows-based deployment methods". Sigh- poor Windows users :( Well, I suppose there isn't a better time like now, to buy a Mac, is there? =0)

I presume that you are the developer? Do you not think that people will be put off this software by automatically awarding yourself 5 stars? If your creation is really that good, then let other users tell you so!

Well I've been on VT for ages and I also have saft for Safari which has enabled me to do away with that awful Firefox nonsense almost once and for all. I've got no problems with saft at all, or its developer for that matter. In fact I can fully recommend saft for Safari- it does a grand job for this otherwise fairly mediocre browser. So there!

Well I'd say that the man is a fool! lol! Running a copy off Leopard off a FW disc to test it out? LOL I think the problem lies more with that foolish nonsense rather than this application LOL! It's just what we wanted- just make sure you tell MacUser magazine. The transparent menu bar was last week's only 'Zero' in "Zero's and Heros" :D

The DWG/DXF format is renowned for its awkwardness. Don't blame Solidworks for this, blame Autodesk for continually changing the format. Now I would say Format Standard here, but I won't, because as far a Autodesk is concerned, there is no 'standard', which makes it very difficult for companies like Solidworks and Standards such as BIM and PLM to keep a grip on the DWG file system. If you don't like it, stop using industry standard…

I don't know if the problem is just confined to Safari, BUT the best thing to do is if this happens just leave the re-post for 24 hours or so (and do a back up of what you have said to TextEdit or whatever. The same happened to me yesterday, but I know that this has been a long time problem with Versiontracker anyway- I got a time out too, but came back today to…

Well that's very nice for you, because you obviously haven't discovered how powerful the Macintosh experience can be when your Services menu works properly, and unfortunately Netscape just don't cut the mustard. Add Saft, Pith helmet and SafariStand to Safari, and it comes a completely different animal. Omniweb too is a very underrated browser. http://pimpmysafari.com/ http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omniweb/ FWIW.

How can you call Netscape 9 a more 'Mac-like' application? It's just like Firefox all over again. Firefox on the bottom of it isn't made with Cocoa, so is very un-Mac, just like this build of Netscape, and just like the other poster here, there's really not a lot to see- and there isn't. Omniweb is the only Mac app that springs to mind that offers proper Mac services integration (apart from safari itself). We…

I wouldn't have given Curio 1 stars, as I think that's a tad unfair (I'd say 4), but I do tend to agree with the above comment, if I were to part with that kind of money, I would go for OmniGraffle. Graffle is simply a better, more versatile, more.... ahem.... "Mac-like" application! (AFAIC, OmniGraffle deserves a good 6 stars! :D ).
