Cisco VPN Client 4.9.01.0180 (Mac OS X)
Maybe the folks at Cisco have never had to actually use their web site. I've never been able to find anything on their website by navigating it; I always have to turn to Google to find a direct link. And I finally found the download area for the Cisco VPN Client for OS X and it requires some service level agreement. Their web site sucks. [alert admin]

GlowWorm FW 1.5.3b4 (Mac OS X)
GlowWorm FW = GlowWorm FW Lite
Just to clarify with regards to a post someone made: there is a single download for all things GlowWorm. The registration code that you provide (or don't provide) dictates the level of functionality available. If you do not buy GlowWorm FW or obtain a free demo license, then it will simply operate in GlowWorm FW Lite mode, indefinitely. [alert admin]

1. The semi-transparent window should NOT have been appearing. It was a bug. It has been fixed (v1.5.3b3, I think). Please let me know if you continue to see it. 2. I don't know why GW would be crashing on exit. I need more details. 3. The menubar is distinct from the app that runs the rule editor, so "launching the rule editor" is not as straight forward as one might hope. It's not impossible. I'll add…

As I mentioned with regards to another comment, you can always chown the program to root and set the sticky bit (chmod +s) and it will run as root and not require your password to do "root things". If security, to you, is not worth typing in your password, then this is an acceptable solution. I'd be interested in hearing about your log-in habits. I log in once per reboot (every couple of weeks?) and after…

The act of providing an admin user/pass is very important. The fact that it is annoying just makes it all the better a security measure. The _only_ way to let an application (such as GlowWorm) do what it needs to do without asking for permission is to get it to run as root. To do this, you need to chown is to root:wheel and chmod +s. If you can sleep at night having done this, then…

My email address (support@glowworm.us) is provided on _every single page_ on the web site (as far as I know). Additionally, references are made in various places to the forum where you can post questions (and receive answers). The link at the top of the VT page labeled, "Developer's Site" directs you as you might expect. I am not aware of the installation issue you described. For me to assist you, I need additional details, such as…

...this is not the Lite version...
This IS the Lite version. There is only a single binary distribution. The registration code that you provide (or don't provide) dictates which level of features are made available. If you do not provide a registration code or you obtain a free Lite registration code, the Lite level of functionality will be enabled. Registration codes are not necessary for the Lite functionality. Download the linked file and run. It is free. I promise.

Regarding the application remaining visible: the system will function without GlowWorm.app running. You only need to make sure that the menubar application is running (which provides the authorization alerts). Just be sure to un-check the "disable glowworm on quit" option in GlowWorm.app preferences. You really only need to open that up to edit rules, or use one of the other plugins.

A fairly capable installer has been a part of the distribution for some time now.

The old v1.0.x series did not include an uninstaller. The only "file" (it's actually a bundle) is the kext: /System/Library/Extensions/GlowWorm.kext You can safely delete that (after disabling GlowWorm), and it will effectively be un-installed. However, the application itself is "self-repairing", and will take the liberty of installing the kext again, the next time you run it. The current 1.5.x (beta) series includes an uninstaller which deletes this file and several other installed files for you. The beta…
