AOL Service Assistant 1.26 (Mac OS X)
i'd rather america online work on bringing aol x up to speed with the win version feature set, because aol x is like 3 generations behind. [alert admin]

Gush 1.3 (Mac OS X)
sure, it's 'only' a powerbook g4 867mhz with 640mb ram, but come on, this is an im and newsreader client! i refuse to 'test' this on my g5, cos even if it runs acceptably on that machine, what's the point? the menu items lag a little in response, but vertical scrolling is awful. very pretty, but very inefficient. shame. if performance improves more i'll use it. and using it has frozen my system twice, requiring a hard reset. it also has an annoying inability to remember window sizes. so everytime i start the browser i have to resize the windows myself. otherwise it opens a small window and hitting the maximize button makes it shrink to a banner sized window. these issues spoil an otherwise enjoyable browsing experience for me. at $30, this should be a lot better than its alternatives, and it isn't. StickyBrain 3.1.0 (Mac OS X)
takes longer than photoshop to start
i can't understand why this app has to take longer than photoshop or dreamweaver to start up on my powerbook g4 12" with 640mb of ram. i loved stickybrain 2.0 but waiting for this otherwise very pleasant app to start up is a real bore, a real chore, and unless it's already up and running when i need to take down something (like, say, if i'm on the phone with someone and they're giving me info), its usefulness is questionable. other apps may not do all the things stickybrain does, but they probably work better for their purpose than this thing does. very disappointing. i hope they fix it because this drawback alone has really really hampered its use for me. until then i can't quite recommend it. Tomato Torrent 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
def the top bt client for os x ![]()

love this thing. very simple, low cpu/ram usage, and much better than azureus which is pigware. and yes, you can indeed limit your u/l speed. tomato torrent sets your default upload rate to "0" which means max. go to advanced configurations once the torrent's being downloaded and replace it with the k/s value you want. you can set the u/l rate for each individual torrent. i hope to see more polishes and i agree a single download window would be very nice, as i usually have 6 - 10 torrents running on my g5 when i'm not using it. Apple Mac OS X 10.3.5 (Mac OS X)
doesn't sound like you do know your macs very well with that sweeping indictment of 10.3--an os i have been using since its release on 4 macs--g5 1.6, 12" pbg4, pismo, lombard, without one single kernel panic. sounds like hardware is to blame, not software. i'd suggest indeed checking the ram--especially if you got your ram upgrades from the same place. GmailStatus 0.4 (Mac OS X)
simple, works as it should, and has no problems. for people complaining about safari functionality, know that even WITHOUT this app, safari has problems with gmail (regardless of whether google says it is now compatible). i have been unable to load gmail in safari often. i now use mozilla and have never had a problem. the two things i would like to see in the feature set are: a) a more attractive toolbar icon--something similar to the konfabulator widgets would be great b) multiple account checking other than that, good going! first of all it isn't even a 7.0.0.40--even though that's what it says here and on the website, downloading it reveals it's 7.0.0.39. THEN, running the installer and waiting eventually results in "an error that prevented this process from continuing". yippee!!! [alert admin]

kinda dumb of you to assume 'local' automatically implied 'the united kingdom', innit?

well, i restarted and all was well. and, holy cow, this thing starts up FAST now. as fast as stickybrain 2, which makes me really pleased because the slow start up speeds for sb3 were a real drag and kept me off buying the product till the .mac 50% discount. now i feel i totally lucked out.
