LaunchBar 4.3.7 (Mac OS X)
Stupid install process, great app...
Great app, have been using for years. However, in recent versions there is a really stoopid/annoying bug: Double clicking on the download (LaunchBar-4.3.7.dmg.bz2.bz) creates a file (LaunchBar-4.3.7.dmg.bz2). Double clicking on this creates another file (LaunchBar-4.3.7.dmg.bz2.cpgz) which when double clicked creates a copy of the previous file (LaunchBar-4.3.7.dmg 2.bz2), which leads to an endless loop of creating these files. REALLY ANNOYING Of course, the solution is to remove the ".bz2" extension after double-clicking the initial file, to change it to a .dmg file that mounts properly. THIS SHOULD REALLY BE FIXED, IT STUPID AND UNNECESSARY. Otherwise great app :D [alert admin]

ASCII Viewer 4.0 (Mac OS X)
Have to aggree with the previous comments... Can't see the point of selling this - there are lots of free alternatives, and lets face it: the target consumers can probably whip up same or better in a matter of minutes - but they probably already have one of the excellent free alternatives already. iCombiner 1.0.0 (Mac OS X)
that this offers exactly the same functionality as the free "Combine PDFs" offered by Monkeybread software as a showcase for their realbasic plugins. In fact, they even give out the source code, so any one could build with something similar... I have not tried this application, and therefore cannot comment on it's ability, but i have been using Combine PDFs for years and it does work very well... in fact it has been one of the "hidden" mac gems as far as i'm concerned... Sente 5.3.4 (Mac OS X)
FYI: Versiontracker advertises 5.3.4 but the download link is to 5.3.2. The developer's website links to 5.3.4. [alert admin]

Clan Lord 536 (Mac OS X)
This software has to have the most "one-post-supporters" -- a special breed of posters who create an account on their day of posting and never post again. Universally, all these are 5-star posters who extol the virtues of the software, no matter how lame it is. I think any one would be hard pressed not to at least suspect it's the developers themselves trying to promote their software. Take the latest (and only) offering from "Ekinney1" below. Any one who has played WoW will be mystified by this long and eloquent post extolling the virtues of Clan Lord over WoW. How any one can postulate: 1) That 3 users sharing a dial up is essential 2) that elements of WoW were taken out of Clan Lord (!!) 3) that the minuscule player base of Clan Lord is actually a good thing 4) that the small number of classes is a good thing 5) that the "lo tech" graphics of CL are better than the "jagged polygons" of WoW is simply beyond belief. And 5-stars for every aspect of the software? All this from Ekinney1, who created his/her account the day before posting and has contributed nothing since. Is this the developer pushing up the 5-Star rating? You decide. [alert admin]

Papers 1.6 (Mac OS X)
Great software for managing PDFs - as many others i have over 1000 science/medical PDFs scattered across several drives, some named sensibly, but some cryptically (guess it made sense at the time). The "match" feature that fills in PDF details (journal/authors/keywords/abstract etc) is a real lifesaver for managing these, as are collections and smart collections. The only thing I'm missing is 1) a speedy way to weed out duplicates and 2) Citation/bibliography support for Word/Pages/Mellel etc... The software has worked flawlessly for me, with no loss of data as reported by previous reviewer, and has become an essential piece of software for my work... Highly recommended... [alert admin]

ZipQuickLook 0.2 (Mac OS X)
Works as advertised, free. Very nice (there is also a Quicklook for folders on the author's website, works well). [alert admin]

ToggleDock 1.0 (Mac OS X)
You could just type the following in Script Editor and run it (save as application or whatever) to toggle between the two: do shell script "defaults read com.apple.dock no-glass" if the result is "0" then set theString to "defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean Yes" as string else set theString to "defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean No" as string end if do shell script theString do shell script "killall Dock" [alert admin]

I've never used Sunbird, but out of curiosity i read the FAQ and within 30 seconds or reading your post i found the following: "Sunbird/Lightning can also work with files based on the iCal standard. These files have the .ics file suffix and can be opened, imported, exported and subscribed to." So it would appear that you pulled that one out of your ass :D

Well said - Couldn't agree with you more. For a possible PS replacement, search VT for "Acorn".

Yeah "Ekinney1", i'm sure you enjoy ClanLord more than WoW. What a load of B*ll*cks!!!! And such a long and eloquent post too! One wonders why Ekinney1 hasn't posted any other posts, and why the only post he/she has is on the day she/he registered? Could this be yet another false post by the developer? Surely not....

As poster says, great utility, but corrupted .dmg file. I get the error: "Codec overrun" when trying to launch it.

What sound does a tree falling in the forest make when no-one is listening?
Or, how can any one comment when no-one here is aware of its existence? I know i've search both VT and (a long time ago) the wider web for mac reference managers and really not come up with much - Endnote's always been there but sucked. Then along came Sente, and more recently Papers is stepping into the arena. But Quosa? Do you even know any one that uses this? Interesting that spending a few minutes…

Didn't work for me either until...
Until i followed the instructions and *quit safari* prior to installing. The manual states that this is "very impotant" but i didn't realise this until i started troubleshooting the non-functional install. The author should considering adding a script to the installer to quit safari before installing...

Bookends vs. EndNote vs. Sente
Developer criticisms I can understand - deleting criticising posts is always poor form. The whole "made with Realbasic therefore it's shite" argument is, on the other hand, very lame. The language and IDE do not pose any constraints in this type of program (it would be a different matter handling high intensity graphics etc). If you experience constraints, it's the developer rather than the language/environement. I think Bookends uses the Valentina database, which is extremely fast and robust.…
