Plasmatube Screen Saver 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Opening the installer package doesn't reveal anything like your traditional .saver item... which makes me suspicious. Further, when I told it to install only for my user, it still asked me to authenticate. I can't see a good reason why I'd want to give an unknown screensaver from a company I'd not seen before administrative access to my machine when I'm only asking it to place it's contents in my home folder. You may or may not realize this, but after going through the whole process, the Cheshire client's Readme states that "Chesire is only usable by AOL members at this time." [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 2.5 Build 3186.0 (Mac OS X)
Versiontracker has a place to put "what's new" into the listing. Parallels doesn't use it. Instead, they provide a link to a version history on their website. Which is fine. Except... Every time Parallels gets a new release, their website gets mercilessly hammered and attempts to find out What's New fail. Which leads me back to the beginning. Versiontracker has a place to put "what's new" into the listing. Parallels, Inc: It wouldn't take but a few moments to copy'n'paste the new stuff in a new version into the place allocated on Versiontracker to do so. Then, we could actually see What's New and not 502 or Page Not Found errors. [alert admin]

Widget Fire 0.1 (Mac OS X)
"Fire" is already the name of a well-known, open source multi-protocol IM client that has been around for years... I believe the choice of the name "Fire" for your product will only sow confusion for the VT community. You will likely want to seriously reconsider that name. [alert admin]

Democracy Player 0.8.5 (Mac OS X)
Unfortunate/improper Political Slant
The product is a decent one. I used it back before it got it's name and when it was Mac-first. I find it reasonably easy to add feeds, etc, to the application. What saddens me is that the application comes preloaded with a large set of politically-oriented, one-sided video feeds pre-loaded in it's library. I don't think this is the proper vehicle for this kind of message. You may feel/think one way or another about politics, but I'm not sure how appropriate it is to deliver the product with such slanted content. I mean, if you're going to deliver a Macintosh application which is supposed to be a video player, why load it with political content at all? It's a computer program. And if you're going to make it political, at least either provide balanced content and/or give potential downloaders a heads-up that they're not just downloading an application like the other 99% of apps here on VersionTracker... they're downloading what appears to be a propaganda machine. Now, I'm sure some people may scream about politics, one way or another, in replies to this. So let me be clear: I'm saying it would be a better Macintosh app if it shipped with apolitical (that's non-political for those of you in Rio Linda) content. Due to the political content, I'm going to have to click the 'Not Recommended' button. [alert admin]

RapidWeaver 3.5.0b1 (Mac OS X)
There are a lot of ways to make a website. Ranging from plodding along in TextWrangler (or vi) to a full-on site management suite like GoLive or Dreamweaver. Editing HTML & CSS by hand eludes most people who want to put up a website. And the high-end products cost mucho dinero.
So, a midrange line of products emerged that brought a lot of power to people who want a website but don't have the knowledge or the dollars. To my knowledge, the first of this class was, and is, RapidWeaver by RealMac Software. While the field is starting to fill up (see iWeb, Sandvox, Goldfish, et al), RapidWeaver, in this user's opinion, remains the easiest to use, the most powerful and extensible (via third-party plugins), and most scalable.
This latest release, 3.5, brings RapidWeaver to a level of functionality and maturity that the newcomers (yes, including Apple's own entry, iWeb) just don't have.
You owe it to yourself to try this app. And when you do, you might just drop by and visit RapidWeaver's secret weapon: An active support community with direct input by the developers themselves: RapidWeaver Support Forums. No other developer of software in this range and class can claim this level of support. And when you visit, you'll no doubt stumble upon pro designers who have abandoned the high-end suites in favor of RapidWeaver. Yes, it's that good.

RefreshWindows 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I stuck the icon for this app in the Finder window's Toolbar. I placed it to the right of the Action menu button (already existing) and the Get Info button (previously added). It's not as instantaneous as Windows' F5 key, but still gets the job done. [alert admin]

Heh, if you watch closely, you'll see that the elf is grumpy because Santa pushes him into the bag'o'toys when he stops to drop into a house's chimney, yet Santa never even bothers to notice, much less help get the elf out or apologize to him. Sadly, lots of houses get missed when the elf is sitting there with folded arms. ;)

Your Mac is rebooting twice because you are using the Combo Updater, which contains updates from previous versions of OS X 10.4, one of which included this "double reboot." This is not specific to 10.4.9.

Actually, Apple offers AMP and SMP
for OS X and OS X Server respectively. And they would love to sell it to your customers at the time they purchase the software. It gives them upgrade protection for three years from the time of purchase. Quite frankly, if you are a consultant, you should already know this and you are remiss if you are not directing your customers (or at least making them aware of the existence of the ability) to…

Excuse me, but when did leftists get granted ownership of the word 'democracy'? Democracy is a form of government (though not the form of government the United States uses, which is a representative republic). The Democrats are a political party. Try and understand the difference. And, you apparently incapable-of-reading-comprehension responder, somehow fail to understand that what I am bringing-up has little to do with freedom of speech, or the governmental form of democracy. …

Free Speech? It's not a book. It's not a magazine or newspaper.
If it were a book or a magazine, etc, I could read the cover and learn what it was about before I got it, right? DTV/Democracy Player bills itself as a video player. It fails to mention it's political contents on it's "cover." Instead, it sneakily & specifically avoids this. Then, an unsuspecting user downloads this Mac program to play videos... and they get a sack full of political propaganda. There's a time and…
