I've used BPE from v1-v2. It's a nice little app. Hopefully it will also gain full iPhone support in future - with the new iPhone SDK. I'm not sure why the prior reviewer was so harsh about BPE. The application works fine for me on Leopard and a MacBook Pro. [alert admin]

Bento 1.0v2 R1 (Mac OS X)
Bento looks good, but form and function must go together - what no PDFs?
I was excited to learn about Bento. But I was disappointed by the initial preview release. Bento does seems unable to store pdf documents as can Yojimbo and many other applications. Presumably this is a shortcoming that will be fixed. Since PDF is an integral part of the Mac OSX architecture, the omission seems a glaring. I'm looking for a simple database to replace Yojimbo where I store, track and search/view over 2,000 PDF documents. Unfortunately, Yojimbo is not yet sufficiently flexible in terms of how meta data are handled. Bento could fit the bill ... possibly. [alert admin]

Yojimbo 1.4.2 (Mac OS X)
Leopard compatibility issue, further development
Yojimbo is an excellent application, so far. But it's not clear whether Bare Bones will develop it further. There are improvements to be made. And, Leopard compatibility isn't 100%. For example, every time Yojimbo loads under Leopard - for me at least - it must rebuild its index. That means loading takes several minutes each and every time. I looked at Filemaker's new "bento" database. But it does not allow one to store PDFs in the database itself, it appears. What a shame, and glaring shortcoming. I use Yojimbo daily, with 2,000 stored pdfs related to my work. These are lengthy documents. [alert admin]

Missing Sync for Palm OS 6.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Missing Sync works great with Daylite! ![]()

I've been using Missing Sync for several months on OSX 10.4 (soon 10.5). the combination of Daylite (Marketcircle) with Missing Sync is absolutely terrific, and seamless. Missing Sync transform Daylite into a much more useful product, and I can finally use my Palm TX. Of course, I'm not a great Palm fan, and the iPhone is lurking around the corner. Butbeware, Missing Sync 6.01 is not Leopeard compatible. [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 5144.0 (Mac OS X)
With this version (5144) I find the video "streaking" and less reliable than with the prior beta when playing video intensive games. Would be nice if the driver were more advanced, too. Perhaps that will come later ... [alert admin]

Apple Numbers 1.0 (Mac OS X)
This is a great product. But it's not meant to replace Excel entirely. It would be foolish of Apple to undermine its largest developer, Microsoft. But it does raise the bar on spreadsheet design. I started my spreadsheet life with Visicalc long ago, analyzing the Federal Budget. Numbers '08 imported my long developed business models without problem - well almost. Numbers cannot import linked spreadsheets. But regardless, my models are less than 600 rows long, and I will be using Numbers for future spreadsheet development. And the superb integration with Keynote and Pages makes iWork a real pleasure for all but the most esoteric tasks. AND, each iWork package, including Numbers is thoroughly documented by individual 250+ page .pdf manuals available for download from Apple (not the documents in the iWorks retail package). I bought the license. Sticky Windows is simple, but very useful. The only immediate issue is that it doesn't work on FileVault enabled Macs. Hence, the problem I describe below. the developer says he will fix the problem shortly. The price is a bit high too. [alert admin]

This is a wholly unfair comment. I've used Missing Sync for Palm with Daylite, and the synchronization is terrific. I've never had problems with Missing Sync. None. And I am one of the more active, and long term Mac users around (since 1984). Regards.

Oops one more thing about Tasks ... ![]()

I forgot. I'd like to be able to select a group of Contacts and then create an Activity Set or Task for the selected contacts. But I'd like the choice between Daylite making individual Task records for each Contact, in bulk as it were, or including all the Contacts in a single Task (or Activity Set). Currently, Daylite does the latter. But often one needs to create the same Task of Activity Set…

I appreciate the comments about Tasks. Like you, I find the current (Daylite v1.9) implementation of managing Tasks frustrating and far too time consuming. I often resort to using OmniOutliner Pro (a wholly inadequate but sometimes faster solution) for tracking tasks instead of Daylite out of frustration. But that simply won't work for managing shared Tasks. I don't believe there have been fundammental improvements in managing Tasks in Daylite beta-1. That is…
