Sony Ericsson iSync Plugins 1.8.5 (Mac OS X)

@musicMMan

@musicMMan: You are confusing the functions of totally separate applications: iSync and Address Book. These iSync Plugins continue to work perfectly in Mac OS X 10.4.x, 10.5.x and 10.6.x. Apple did remove the Mac Address Book's ability to dial and send SMS via Bluetooth in Mac OS X 10.5. However, that is totally separate to, and does not affect, iSync's ability to sync Contacts and Calendars. Please check your facts before posting misleading 'reviews'. [alert admin]

SpeedMail 0.9b (Mac OS X)

Not going to try...

I am not going to risk my email trying this product, until there is some information on exactly what it does, how it does it, what to do if it goes wrong and how to ininstall or revert the changes it makes etc. It appears to be just an AppleScript Studio application, but the author has protected the script, so its impossible to see what the script actually does. For all I know it could just delete all my Mail - that would certainly speed it up as described. [alert admin]

FoneLink 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Very buggy

Well, I want to like this program, so decided to give v1.0.1 a try. Only one of my previous comments has been address (Time Tunnel window closing). Anyway, I tried to overlook the UI and attempted to use the program. Here are the bugs I found within 30 minutes: (Tested with Sony Ericsson W610 and K510) Organizer > Contacts - All phone numbers appear in Japanese characters - Home & Work addresses are not displayed in correct order - Home & Work addresses are truncated - Birthday shows completely wrong date & is truncated - Email addresses are truncated - When connecting to the phone a second time, it doesn't load contacts from the phone, you have to press 'Refresh from phone' for them to show up. - Contact Notes are truncated Organizer > Events & Tasks - Tasks do not show date and time of reminder Organizer > Bookmarks - Gives error: "An unspecified error occurred. Location: Bluetooth communication. Error: Can't find explanation (-103) on K510i - K510i says "Session failed. Invalid server response" - Works ok with W610i Mobile Finder - Device Inbox is clickable, but does nothing - Occasionally its possible to have both Pictures & Videos highlighted together The method of deleting a 'known device' is not obvious. The application has unexpectedly quit 3 times on the Connection Center screen So, this is most definately not worthy of a 1.0 release. It is very buggy, which makes it unusable for me. It's a real shame, because if it worked well, and the UI was improved dramatically, it would be great. [alert admin]

FoneLink 1.0.0 (Mac OS X)

Not ready for primetime

Downloaded this and been playing with it for a few hours... It's an interesting and potentially useful concept, mixing features from MacMedia's PhoneAgent and Mira's BluePhoneElite, however, I can't help thinking that this is much more a 0.x beta release than a final 1.0 release. There are lots of inconsistencies in the UI, wording used, spelling and grammatical errors, and a few bugs. For instance, on opening the app for the first time it instructs you to "Please click on the Setup Wizard to add a new device...", however, there is nothing labelled "Setup Wizard" anywhere on screen or in the menus, nor any obvious button to click. By rolling over the graphic in the center of the window you get a grey box fade in. This area, apparently, is the place to click! Nothing like a normal Mac UI button. Then after clicking this 'area', it opens a window called "FoneLink Assistant" (not "Setup Wizard"). I appreciate that the developers are not native English speakers but there are too many grammatical errors and spelling mistakes throughout. Why not get a few native English speakers to test and correct all these errors before releasing the product? It would hugely improve the professional look as currently it appears quite amateurish. Examples: "To link you mobile phone, please activate bluetooth on the computer and the mobile to." And, "quering device" instead of "Querying Device..." When previewing file information some of the info labels are in German. The user interface is all over the place. There is no consistency whatsoever, either to itself, or other Mac applications. - Nothing lines up (text, borders, window edges) - No consistency to fonts, sizes and weights used - Inconsistent rollover/click feedback on icons - The left-hand panel of the 'Mobile Finder', 'Organizer' and 'Media Center' windows are all different, even though they display similar info. It appears the designers have attempted to 'borrow' various bits of UI design from various other Mac applications. But in doing so, they have combined them into a Frankensteins monster mish-mash of styles. The main window is vaguely iTunes style, but has 'aqua' gadgets on the grey background, unlike iTunes. The font used in the icon, list and column views changes size and font when you change views, unlike the Finder (and the icons are wrong and placed awkwardly). The Volume slider, Play button and Time indicator again, are similar to iTunes/QT, but not consistent and poorly drawn. However, in the 'NovaMediaBrowser' window, the iTunes/QT-style Play button IS used. Progress bars appear overlaid in semi-transparent rounded corner boxes and are not Mac-standard, and appear to be poorly imitated 'Aperture'-style dialogs. Headings in the Phone Settings page are in green rounded rectangles, which I have never seen in any Mac application, nor anywhere else in FoneLink! There seems to be no way to close the "Time Tunnel" window after opening it (no close gadget), and the design of this window is obviously a poor rip-off of Apple's "Time Machine" interface. The designers should seriously look at the Apple UI Guidelines or other well-designed Mac applications for inspiration (Xtorrent springs to mind). There are clearly a few bugs that need to be sorted out too. It doesn't read/show contact photos assigned to Contacts in the phone and viewed in the Organiser section. I like the idea of the program, but it looks too much like one of the many badly designed Windows applications trying to imitate a Mac application, rather than a true Mac app. I would purchase it, but can't bring myself to use it anymore. The UI just annoys my eyes too much! [alert admin]

Sony Ericsson Mac Themes 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Very nice!

Cool! These are very nicely done. By far the best Mac OS style themes I have seen. Most I've tried are quite ugly. Having tried to make good-looking, usable themes myself, I can appreciate the effort and attention to detail that has gone into these. Good job! [alert admin]

Really it is...

Ok, thank you for your quick reply. I have read about the sqlite3 ~/Library/Mail/Envelope\\ Index vacuum tip before, so I guess it is quite safe, and easier to use as an application. I would still suggest providing more information for other 'cautious" users.
