Driver Genius Professional Edition 2005 6.1.2518 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

DUMB

This is about the LAMEST program I've ever seen. The scenario is almost always this: Go to a menu, or the wizard, and select BACK UP DRIVERS in whatever category, it searches for drivers, then you'd just THINK you'd hit the Backup button right? Noooooooo...it consistently tells you "You haven't selected any drivers" even if you hit the checkbox next to the main user name that appears in the window...doing that does absolutely nothing btw...checking the box should mean you want it to do something in that category..but it doesn't. And even in "wizard" (ha what a joke) mode, you say Backup ALL drivers right...then you hit the backup drivers button...and again it tells you "you haven't selected any drivers to backup" Well DUHHHHHHHHHHH I told it to do ALL of them, how frigging idiotic IS this program?? No wonder noone has reviewed it, they try it once and say this garbage doesn't even WORK. And I see absolutely NO improvement over the 2005 version I was using...for a little bit anyway, that's why I THOUGHT this version might not be so lame...silly me! Don't bother unless you just want to be frustrated with a completely UN-intuitive interface and commands that do NOT do what you tell them to do and what you EXPECT them to do. The ONLY thing I got to work on this was the View menu/Update Drivers Manually or Automatically (WOW the View menu is a really good place for a function like that huh?)...at least it listed the drivers...but then, once again, I select backup, and it says I haven't selected anything even if I want to do them all. Plus it takes toooo long when you do get it to look...and once you're scanning, forget canceling it...it doesn't work! You can't even ctrl-alt-delete out of it...it refuses with a message! Blizzard Diablo II 1.11b (Mac OS X)

Pathetic in X!

I've been playing D2 for years, and it just plain sucks in OS X. There's virtually no OpenGL support unless you like playing at about 10 frames a second, this with a 128mb ATI card installed. After much emailing with Blizzard tch support who can tell me virtually nothing, I perused the web and found MANY people who have this problem on a Mac. Have to play in software mode, which is acceptable, IF the damn game didn't lock up intermittently ALL the time! I've done at least half a dozen reinstalls of the OS and the game and it still doesn't solve the lockup issues in the game. NOTHING else on the Mac causes such maddening issues. Face it guys...if you're playing it and it don't crash, you're one of the lucky ones. I've been playing D2 a lot since it came out, and the OS X rendition is simply pathetic. It played better on a Supermac and on a G3 MUCH better than it ever has in OS X. And I'm soooooo SICK of hearing users say Ohhhhhh but they provide it for freeee and coming to the defense of pathetically inept programmers at Blizzard who don't know what the hell they're doing and would rather field 50 email exchanges with idiotic techs than ADMIT that they have a problem, especially with the OpenGL rendering for MOST Mac video cards (they removed hardware support completely in the OS X versions)...well fine and dandy, IF it worked! If you're a newbie at D2 wondering if you should purchase the game to play on Mac OS X...DON'T. [alert admin]

avast! Home Edition 4.7.844 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Amazing

This product is not compatible with ZoneAlarm Security Suite. I was running that but on a slower PC ZA's virus scans are too slow. So Avast installs fine, scans fine on the first bootup after install, THEN tells you that it's not comp. with some feature in ZA and that you should turn off the incompatibility in Avast, THEN you need to go and set up special proxies in your browser(s) to make web pages load correctly. Screw all that, too much of a problem, and REALLY REALLY irritating that the program didn't tell me RIGHT UP FRONT that it wasn't gonna be compatible with ZA instead of letting me get it all installed and spend 10 minutes running a startup scan...how utterly STUPID is that? Then you have to go through the hassle of uninstalling it if you don't want to have the hassle of setting up your web browsers special...which I don't, why bother? ZA will scan at night when I'm not at the PC is all. I *did* like Avast when I tried it on another computer I thought it was fairly quick...but this mumbo jumbo letting me install then getting all this crap...well bye bye, try again Avast authors. And another thing...if it's not compatible with ZA, then who knows what else it won't be compatible with...guess you take your chances if you're running something else, cuz they sure won't tell you up front! Printer Setup Repair 5.0.4 TE (Mac OS X)

Do Not Support This

Well I thought this program was supposed to fix problems. I used it to do a complete reset, told it to make a backup file etc, then I went out of town for awhile with my printer issues unresolved. I was going to make another attempt, but the program has "expired" leaving me with no way to use it without buying it. Sorry, you don't get my money...now I am having major headaches with the other printer I got because evidently your little "reset" damaged or removed some files needed for printing...can't even run the Printer Utility to clean and align cartridges, apparently because some vital files were removed that can't be restored without BUYING your stupid app. Well your "demo" messed things up worse than if I had been frogging around removing files manually. Thanks for the JUNK. DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM. [alert admin]

The question remains...you MORONS...since you seem to like to call people names I guess I can do the same thing: Why was the printing system completely unusable AFTER using this when it wasn't before? As for the comment about no concept of shareware, I disagree. I simply don't believe in crippleware that won't allow you to restore something it backed up unless you pay someone money for it. Fine buy it if you want it,…
