Windows Media Player 9.0 (Mac OS X)
i've used this app for years, whenever necessary, and it always worked okay. but not only is it not optimized for mactel machines, it doesn't run in rosetta either, at least on my mbpro. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X Intel 10.4.7 (Mac OS X)
updated version fixed my problems
as noted on mac fixit, there's a patched version of this update available. after installation, ms word and photoshop cs opened okay. they seem even slower now than before the update, however. [alert admin]

ms word, photoshop cs2 won't open
since the update, i've not been able to get photoshop cs2, photoshop elements 4 or ms word (latest update) to open. ms entourage works fine. excel & powerpt not installed on this machine so i can't comment on those. i will try reinstalling the apps and report back if i have any success. this is the first time i've ever had a problem with a system update, and it couldn't come at a worse time!!!! 2ghz macbook pro, 2 gb ram [alert admin]

ClearDock 1.4 (Mac OS X)
i've used clearDock for quite some time, and missed it when i moved to the new intel mac. installed, as always, without a hitch, and does what it's supposed to do. [alert admin]

Saft 8.1.0 (Mac OS X)
8.1.0 "doesn't support safari version 412" (aka 2.0) ![]()

i had no problems with saft 8.0.3, but 8.1 seems to install, then tells me my version of safari (2.0, OS 10.4.2) is not supported "so saft is not installed." excuse me, but isn't this the tiger version of saft? isn't OS 1.4.x tiger? in the process of trying to install itself, 8.1 overwrote 8.0.3, so now i'm saftless. the error message with the failed install directed me to the developer's site for an "update." i don't want an update, i want the previous, functional, version back. can't find it on hao li's site. i've used saft for quite awhile and it has some nice features. but it seems that every other update creates a problem and it's beginning to seem like more trouble than it's worth. Acquisition 119.3 (Mac OS X)
works fine for me in tiger. good connectivity, and comes up with plenty of "finds" for me and my out-of-the-mainstream musical tastes. this seems like a nice update. [alert admin]

Captain FTP 4.2 (Mac OS X)
i used to use transmit, which is also a good app. about 2 1/2 ago, i started having problems with it and downloaded the captain to try. frankly, i hadn't tried it before bc of the silly logo. (still hate it -- sorry!) captain worked so well that i licensed it right away and although an updated transmit is working again i have never looked back. [alert admin]

Fetch 5.0.1 (Mac OS X)
i used fetch for years -- back in the day, there wasn't much choice, and coming over from the dos world, i thought the waggy-tail dog was sooo cute. but both transmit and (especially) capt. ftp overtook and surpassed fetch in usefulness several years ago. i downloaded 5.0.1 and took it for a spin for old times' sake. i had no problems with it, but i won't be buying the upgrade. Wallet 1.2.2 (Mac OS X)
i hope there's a fix coming. it's unusable now, or next thing to unusable. opens, but keeps giving error messages: "runtime failure: failed assertion. pls report what caused this error [opening the app!] along with the info below. macOSmenu.cpp:284 appMenu" [alert admin]

i can't get it to work either. same symptoms you describe. running 10.4.4 on a g4 1.25 dp; the app's on a bootable partition of #2 hard drive. i run plenty of apps off this drive, so don't think we have a hardware problem here. dropCompress works fine (installed on the same hd) -- it's also free, so that's what i'll use.

fwiw, my experience with support from the developer was both prompt and helpful (solved my problem, first try) the one time i needed it.

if i'd never used launchbar, probably i wouldn't install it now. but i've been using it for a couple of years; it's 2nd nature, muscle-memory to me. fast, easy and elegant. i can see plenty of ways i'll use searchlight, but no conflict with launchbar. (butler, which i've also used for quite some time, might be another story.)

(re)installed 10.3.9, using the combo update. fired up PH installer, which complained about another app using an older version of simbl. this turned out to be acid search. i trashed that, installed PH, and all is well. fwiw, saft is installed in /library, and PH in ~/library. reinstalled acid search and it's working too.

they are working okay together on my g4 tiBook, but not on my desktop machine. in fact pith helmet doesn't doesn't even work alone on that computer (1.25 ghz dp g4) -- a message flashes on the display too fast for me to read, and then safari quits. saft alone is okay. i have just reinstalled 10.3.9, using the combo (suggested by someone on another board), and will report here if that…
