Kensington MouseWorks 3.0r1 (Mac OS X)
Zoom while holding... broken in Leopard with Mouseworks installed
Recently installed Leopard; with Mouseworks 3.0rc1 installed, the "Zoom while using scroll wheel while holding" option (under Apple's 'Mouse' tab in the Keyboard & Mouse pref pane) no longer works. Uninstall Mouseworks, zooming works fine. Install Mouseworks, zooming doesn't work at all, regardless of which modifier key is set. Requires a fix from Kensington. There are probably other issues as well but I haven't had time to check... I submitted a tech support request but since they haven't updated the driver or enhanced it in well over a year I'm not particularly hopeful. It's a sad state of affairs and I'm beginning to lose all respect and brand loyalty for Kensington. The hardware is great, but their driver and software support is downright pathetic... Nearly 7 years since OS X came out and they still haven't brought the OS X driver anywhere close to what it could do under OS 9. [alert admin]

Steel 1.1.6 (Mac OS X)
1.1.6 crash on launch problem solved!
I posted last night that I was having difficulties with 1.1.6 crashing on launch. I emailed the developer and received a reply within a few hours along with a test version of Steel which fixed the problem (though due to the time difference and work I didn't actually check it out until a few minutes ago). Regardless, I am completely impressed and awestruck by such fast, friendly, effective service!! Thank you Gabriele! [alert admin]

Steel 1.1.6 (Mac OS X)
I've used Steel for years and it's always been reliable and fine, but I just downloaded and installed the update; Steel 1.1.6 quits immediately on launch when trying to open my existing .steel file (as specified in preferences) with all of my data. So I trashed the preferences, re-entered my registration code, Steel opened fine. Went to open my registrations.steel file, selected it, clicked "Open", and Steel quits without any error report being generated. Repaired permissions and tried again, same result. Reverted to 1.1.5 and exported all my data into tab-delimited format. Trashed the preferences file again, opened 1.1.6 and imported the data. Seemed to work fine; I saved the file and quit Steel, then opened it again. Back to square one, as the program again crashed without producing an error. Happens consistently on both a PowerPC G5 and a MacBook Pro, both running Leopard. I'll be sending a support request to the developer, but in the interim, if you use Steel and haven't yet upgraded to 1.1.6, make sure you export all your data from Steel just to be safe. My mistake in documenting the steps... after reverting to 1.1.5, exporting my data, and recreating a file using 1.1.6, Steel seemed to work fine; I saved the file and quit Steel, then opened it again. Now Steel doesn't crash on launch, but it looks like none of my data was actually saved; the window doesn't seem to display properly, e.g., the selection doesn't change even if I click my mouse on a category.
