Whats Keeping Me 1.0.5 (Mac OS X)

11.1MB?!

Ridiculously oversized for such a simple app. [alert admin]

CodeTek VirtualDesktop Pro 3.2 (Mac OS X)

crying "real soon now" wolf

We've already been told to anticipate a significant CTVD update several times before, then months (which now total up to years) go by and it never appears. Unless I see direct evidence from the developer to prove CTVD 4 really exists and will be released I'm not going to believe any rumors about it. And CodeTek might as well make CTVD free because it must be hard selling a product with its development history. I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone buy it regardless of how good a product it is unless CodeTek finds a way to earn back long lost customer loyalty, which is going to be difficult since they've made no effort to sustain it over the last several years. CD/DVD Label Maker 1.23 (Mac OS X)

Toast icon?

Looks like someone borrowed the Toast icon to use from this product page on VersionTracker. [alert admin]

Shrinky-DVD-ink 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Shrinky-DVD-ink vs. MTR

MacTheRipper is the gold standard for DVD ripping on OS X, though it would be an asset to have alternatives. Based on feedback here (thanks!) Shrinky-DVD-ink (a name that seems strangely derived from the Winky Dink and You TV show) currently isn't one of them. [alert admin]

Portscanner 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Simple Portscanner?

What's the value of this app over using Port Scan in the Network Monitor utility bundled with OS X? [alert admin]

Screencast 1.0 (Mac OS X)

FYI: price mismatch

This VT product listing claims the price is $79; it's $29 on the developer site. Just mentioning it since the difference is significant enough to dissuade people from this product if they only check the price here. [alert admin]

UUID Generator 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Services shortcut conflict?

The Shift-Command-U shortcut is commonly used for "Open URL" or one of several "Open URL in <browser>" variants. [alert admin]

SpaceControl 1.0 (Mac OS X)

3MB?

3MB is large for this one-trick-pony compared to ~625KB for MenuMeters which has a similar volume size-reporting capability (by clicking its Disk menubar icon) and many more features. [alert admin]

Intego FileGuard X4 10.4 (Mac OS X)

why?

I don't see any reasons here or on Intego's site for why someone might want to pay for this "virtual safe" product ($50 for a single-user license) instead of using standard OS X encrypted disk images for free. Is this just a front-end to the latter? [alert admin]

EyeTV 2.5 (Mac OS X)

Keep Player Windows On Top vs. editing

Thought it worth mentioning that program editing is disabled when v2.5's new "Keep Player Windows On Top" option in the View menu is enabled. Still disappointed by total lack of EPG saved search capability; even a simple toolbar search history would be helpful. And Elgato still hasn't been able to get TitanTV/Decisionmark to fix the incomplete EPG download problem that I reported two months ago. [alert admin]

can't reproduce it

Resizable text files still work fine here after updating to PithHelmet 2.8.3. SafariStand is the only other SIMBL plugin installed. 1PasswdIM, DownloadComment, Menu Extra Enabler, and Sogudi are the other InputManagers.

workarounds

• Use PithHelmet > Reload Unfiltered (Option-Shift-Command-R) to reload problematic pages. • Use PithHelmet > Show Site Preferences (Option-Command-,) to create a custom rule for problematic sites and uncheck "Enable ad blocking for this site" under the Ad Blocking tab.

PH should work with Safari 3.1

Try increasing MaxBundleVersion (I don't know the exact value yet) in the Info.plist file, as described in many earlier posts.

session saving/restoring

Since SafariStand does it for free so I wouldn't recommend buying Saft just for that feature.
