D2X-XL 1.6.171 (Mac OS X)
Works great, open source. No problems. [alert admin]

BoomBot 0.7 (Mac OS X)
See http://boombot.sourceforge.net/ - BoomBot has been resurrected. As of this time, there are no new releases, but the code in SVN at the SourceForge site has been updated to work with the modern AIM network. [alert admin]

AdSanity 1.1.0 (Mac OS X)
Try Firefox with Adblock and the Filterset.G filter set. Does bascially the same thing, but at no cost whatsoever. (Firefox is really great too.) [alert admin]

BoomBot 0.7 (Mac OS X)
BoomBot has broken with AOL's semi-recent updates to the AIM network. I'm working on getting a new version of libfiretalk merged in (or possibly another library, if the new one doesn't work). [alert admin]

Ogg Vorbis QuickTime Component 1.0d6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Works great, and it's open source as a bounus. Encodes and decodes. [alert admin]

I don't really understand what's going on, but as the readme says, it IS pretty. [alert admin]

Axelerate 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I agree that, if abused, Axelerate/axel/etc. can be a potent internet "weapon". However, a knife, if abused, can be a potent murder weapon... Use with care, please. Also, there's a problem I haven't been able to track down with the download speed incicator... sometimes it'll put a bracket in there; ignore it. [alert admin]

PDFViewer 1.4 (Mac OS X)
Just as it says: light, quick, small PDF viewer. Much faster than Preview, and **MUCH** less bulky than Adobe Reader. Not the most feature-rich app, but I don't need a PDF viewer that checks my email... it has everything that's needed; nothing more, nothing less. [alert admin]

iTunes-BPM Inspector 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Works as advertised; not only does it do bpm counts, but it also has a "set" feature, allowing you to test out the current speed. Immense help in getting a custom DDR song synched. [alert admin]

XGuest 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Should not be in a .pkg installer. A disk image is enough for all but the most techincal of apps. Haven't tested it as I don't generally use 3rd-party .pkg installers (it's a huge PITA and a long terminal trip to uninstall). [alert admin]

Indeed -- axel has a million and a half options (as is common with unix-y programs). None of them are exposed via the GUI, which was honestly a quick face for me to use on top of axel itself. I'm glad that this is still useful for someone; honestly, I wrote this off years ago. There's no reason it should break in the future though... other than still being PPC-only. Shouldn't really be an issue for…

You may be interested in NeoOffice. It's a full OS X overhaul of OpenOffice 1.1.4 and feels like an OS X-native app (because it is!) http://www.neooffice.org/

No, you should use a better protection system than PDF's weak builtin encryption. Breaking it really isn't that hard.

Dear god, I was wondering what that file was... could they not choose a better place for it? There are, like, folders for that stuff!! WOW! How about ~/Library/Application Support or even ~/Library/Preferences instead of dumping it right into my home folder... where it's likely to get deleted? Lucky I found out what it was before I noticed it anyways and 'DEBTWEETED' it... would have happened sooner or later... Sheesh. At least the game itself is…

One example of a bug: Whenever I apply a change to the Dock Minimize Effect, my desktop image changes. ***** (Please note: I am not the developer of this application.) This happens because the dock is restarted. To make the change take effect, this program restarts the dock. Since the dock is also in control of the desktop picture, it changes when this happens.

I'm not saying AIM needs more bots, just that you can make your own if you want. And ALL the deserts need more sand ;)
