Solavant 2.5 (Mac OS X)

Nothing but extraordinary

Solavant 2.5 intros another 17 solitaires, bringing the total to a staggering 240 Solitaires. It also introduces a new visual pleasing sidebar and removes the ugly rules drawer. I am anxious to see what's in store for version 3.0. Solavant is my favorite game on Mac OS X. [alert admin]

Chroma player 2007.2 (Mac OS X)

Video player for mac users

After years of using VLC as my video player of choice I came upon Chroma Player. This is how a video player for the mac platform should look and act like. Used it for the full 15-day trial period and never had a crash. Much more stable than VLC but the best part is how it renders subtitles using the native resolution of the monitor instead of that of the video file (like VLC). The result is crisp text that doesn't strain yor eyes. Also try using the transparent background subtitle style (the animation of the text box is wonderful). I love Chroma and use it a lot so I wrote a Sofa Control script for that (it's in the new version of Sofa Control). I hope the next versions will add playlist support. If you like me are anal about type (and if you're using a mac you should be) and view a lot of movies with subtitles then Chroma is the player for you. [alert admin]

TVShows 0.3 (Mac OS X)

Great great great stuff!

I've been using TVShows to manage my 15+ TVShows addiction and so far it has worked flawless for me. A great timesaver. Just set it and forget it! And to think that I bought Xtorrent for the same functionality (it doesn't yet auto-download).... [alert admin]

Sofa Control 2.0b2 (Mac OS X)

Great, easy control of your mac via the Apple Remote

I was a beta tester for this version (2.0), so I saw this app mature nicely. Sofa Control 2.0b offers unique new features over the previous version like Virtual Mouse, newly designed global menus, double pressing that offers new functionaity and a new more user friendly script maker to create your unique scripts. The ability to browse through files and open them on your disk drives gives sofa a clear edge over the rest of the Apple remote apps. Furthermore the developer is friendly, open to suggestions (he has incorporated everything I asked for) and quick to reply and solve any problems. This beta also has a new script called Sofa Safari that enables you to browse with one apple remote click through sites that are reporting MWSF 2007 live keynote from Steve Jobs. So instant live coverage of 2007 keynote from your Sofa :) [alert admin]

Vienna 2.1.0.2108 (Mac OS X)

Vienna will set you free!

I was a hardcore NewsFire user, but due to the developer's arrogance I was forced to seek another RSS reader. I had my eyes on Vienna for a long time, but the newest version introduced Unified layout which is absolutely brilliant. This feature, together with the ability to change styles (CSS templates really) made me a Vienna believer. A big thanks to the devs for bringing to maturity a great open source RSS reader! Solavant 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Solavant gets better and better

Leaps and bounds ahead of the "solitaire" mac os x competition. Version 2 brings it to mac intels and adds the "community" aspect of winnable deals. The developer says that the deals are hard to win which is not entirely true as there are plenty of "easy" games for the uninitiated. You'll find all the regular solitaire games you're used to and a whole lot more. Version 2.0 includes 223 games and not 200 as the versiontracker details states. My all-time favourite is Scorpion which is one of the hardest and addicting card games I have ever played. Developer is very responsive and friendly and he is quick to aknowledge and correct the bugs. [alert admin]

Sofa Control 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Excellent and Extensible

Front Row is great but still very limited. With Sofa Control I can use the Apple Remote to control just about every app I wish. My main use is controlling VLC (which unlike Quicktime supports subtitles) and dashboard for a quick check on my mails, rss, weather, stocks widgets. I like the finder browse function (I can open any video file anywhere in my mac) and it is something that Remote Buddy doesn't offer yet. Furthermore the use of Applescript, makes for great customization. The developer is very responsive and helpful and the price is a bargain. I would have paid more than 20$ for this, but it only costs 10$ and you get lifetime updates. The only "bug" I could find is that you cannot deactivate the screensaver via the remote, but the developer said that this will get fixed in the new version due soon. Highly Recommended. Solavant 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

The most elegant set of solitaire games! 137 of them!

I have bought and (extensively) use Solavant for almost a week now. I am more than impressed. I installed it on all my 3 macs and my first task every morning is an hour of solitairing with a warm cup of coffee! What was a weak area for mac solitaire games is now a thing of the past: Graphics. The game is absolutely gorgeous in a minimal mac way. I have tried almost all of the solitaire games for mac and they all had one thing in common: They were just ugly in a Windows 98 kind of way ;) No more, my friends! This is what solitaire for mac should look like. Pure Mac OS X Aqua goodness!

More than that, you get a huge selection of games (137 to be exact!), all with extensive documentation, set of rules and a wealth of statistics (winning streaks, games won, time, score etc).

While the developer advertises this set of card games as hard, they are not so hard to disappoint you. The more appropriate word would be: challenging (and therefore more worthy of your time). The developer is also the maker of Solebon and SolFree set of card games, wildly popular on Palm OS devices.

This download provides a demo of completely playable, with no limits whatsoever, of 100 deals! More than adequate to evaluate the game's worth.

If you, like me, are a solitaire junkie and "software design" conscious, Solavant will be your Solitaire Nirvana! I know mine is! [alert admin]

Excellent - UItra Fast - FREE!

I have to change my review a bit! After paying a closer look on prefs, I discovered that you can use any keys or combination of keys for almost every function! So that's way cool!!! I'd give it 6 stars, if I could!
