1Password 3.0 (Mac OS X)
An excellent app. Highly recommended. However... the download link on the 1Password site for version 3, states that it's a beta but that is not suggested here. Which is it? http://agilewebsolutions.com/products/1Password/beta [alert admin]

YemuZip 2.3 (Mac OS X)
no more ads on paid version please (2.3.1)
Great app. Easy to use, however.... Developer(s), please note: I reeeally don't want to see ads on this application once it's been paid for. YemuZip clearly states: "the Pro edition lets you turn off the advertising message", but after paying for this app, I still get ads trying to get me to buy FileChute. Showing ads still is only going to have the opposite of the intended effect and annoy paid users of your software. [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 5608.0 (Mac OS X)
As a comment, I've been using Parallels 3 for almost a year now. It was adequate at first but tended to run more slowly over time. Using Windows XP meant a restart of it each time, as hibernating would slow it to a crawl upon waking. I decided to install and run a demo of VMware Fusion 2. Granted they still have some development issues of their own but I'm amazed at how quickly and smoothly it runs. It's been a month of using it now and I feel converted to VMware. Both Parallels and VMware have or will have recent updates in Oct, and both are decent apps but when it comes down to which one I'll likely stick with in the long run, it's probably going to be VMware. $20 for upgrade? This app can walk the plank. Journler is an excellent alternative to this app. Highly recommended. [alert admin]

I've been using this application for quite a while now, and I have to say I'm really impressed with it. It's rare to see an application given so much attention, and with regular upgrades put out by the developer. Well done. [alert admin]

VLC Media Player 0.9.9a (Mac OS X)
Know that the 'a' in the release number means 'alpha' - it's not even a beta, so it's likely to have some rough spots. [alert admin]

PleaseSleep 1.1 (Mac OS X)
This works well, thanks! Works better than similar products out there that have tried to do the same thing. I like that there's an option to sleep only if certain application(s) are running but having an option to not sleep if certain applications are on would be the other half to make this a complete utility. For example, yesterday it went to sleep on me while on a Skype chat, simply because no buttons were pressed for 15 mins during the chat. Also, if something is downloading for more than 15 mins, like a bittorrent, then this application would sleep my computer which is not what I want. Of course, I could always quit the app when using these things but if there's an inclusion list, it would make sense to have an exclusion list as well. Perhaps this is easier said than done since one list could override the other, but a toggle/checkbox could be a start. [alert admin]

Cyberduck 3.0.2 (Mac OS X)
I've tried so many FTP clients, and overall as far as overall capabilities go, Cyberduck is hard to beat. I like that it offers SFTP, SCP and using your public key (hooray!), but sadly, it just isn't stable on my computer. I am running a Macbook Pro / 10.5.5 / 3g of RAM and my computer is otherwise solid. However, Cyberduck keeps crashing. It crashed 3 times in the past half hour so I've had to ditch it for the more reliable Captain FTP and/or Fugu. If the stability issues that I and others are dealt with, then I will gladly return to Cyberduck. Until then... [alert admin]

YemuZip 2.2.3 (Mac OS X)
After recently researching some tools to compress files which will remove the extraneous .ds_store and other "._" files YemuZip does a good job. What would make it better is having it available as a contextual menu when I right-click on a file or folder, and automatically quitting when done. Otherwise, a great product for a more than reasonable price. [alert admin]

That's a bit lame to rate this with 1 star in all areas when you've only got 512MB available for your whole machine. Of course it will run slow with that little memory - and so will everything else of any real ilk. Your operating system will take 4/5 of that memory available. Yes, maybe iPhoto will launch but don't expect real performance from it when you're doing the equivalent of running an old car…

I think the opening sentence speaks volumes:
You're an idiot if you think you can use this product without sweat and tears
That makes no sense. So, the geniuses are the one who can't figure phpMyAdmin out? Besides that, you're also essentially calling yourself an idiot.
It's pretty simple to use if you know any mySQL at all. I've a novice with mySQL and have no trouble with phpMyAdmin. If you need one, there are books out…

Works on wired iMac but not wireless Macbook Pro
Another note is that this same version works without any problems on my iMac 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. It seems I'm not the only one having this odd issue. My iMac is connected via ethernet while my Macbook Pro is connected via Airport. Perhaps that's where the issue is..?

greyscale Screen Sharing in Leopard
I have the same gripe about not being able to use greyscale in CotVNC, but here is a way to get Screen Sharing in Leopard to use greyscale:
To change this setting manually, open up the Terminal and type in the following command:
defaults write com.apple.ScreenSharing controlObserveQuality 2
This changes the controlObserveQuality setting within this plist file: “~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ScreenSharing.plist” file to 2, which is grey scale. To change it to a different resolution, substitute the…
