Flock 1.2.3 (Mac OS X)
While I still do most of my general browsing in Safari (clean, fast, simple, elegant) I usually keep Flock open in the background. Why? Because—as another reviewer already mentioned—it is excellent at doing what it's meant to. Its integration with so many social sites (facebook, YouTube, Flickr, Blogger, and more...) is unsurpassed. Itsintegration with Yahoo Mail and Gmail is great—though I prefer to check my Gmail using Apple's Mail. throw in the PicLens extension for mozilla-based browsers (it says for Firefox but works in Flock as well) and you have a social media (read "friends' pics posted online anywhere) powerhouse. I also love the built in blogging tool—while I really need to use it more, I love the fact that despite being free it works smoothly and uniformly with no less than 6 of the most popular free blogging sites. Is it perfect? No, but no one browser truly is. I'd like to see better integration with other software, especially iLife apps, iCal, Mail, and Address Book. I don't want to replace these with an all-in-one,I just want to be able to access their data as needed sometimes w/o opening or switching to them. I guess I'd also like the blogging tool to be turned into a full journal, but a) I suspect that I'd be better served with a separate app for that and b) I only really want this from Flock because it's posting mechanism works so well across all those blogging sites. If only one of the free journal apps could do that.... [alert admin]

You Control: Tunes 1.5.2 (Mac OS X)

I have used this app since its days as a PTH product. I was sad when You Software bought it and rolled it into the (IMHO) expensive You Control bundle. I was ecstatic when they brought it back as a standalone free app, albeit with reduced features. This + SizzlingKeys ≥ Synergy, but for free! What many don't realize is that the overlay is as flexible as any RTF file. Want to mess with fonts, coloring, shadows, etc.? In the style menu of the Overlay section, select "Custom." Arrange the pieces as you like. Copy the whole thing into a blank TextEdit doc. Go to town with fonts, colors, etc. Copy from TextEdit and paste back into the custom overlay sheet, and Presto! Each component of the overlay (song title, artist, time, rating, etc.) can have independent font, size, color, and shadow settings. Not to mention that you can set the color and transparency of the background of the overlay. On top of all that customization utilizing features of OS X (rather than a tacked-on system like Growl) is the simple and elegant solution of having basic playback controls in the menubar; this is the ultimate in conserving desktop real estate. This is generally the first thing I install on a new system, and I find it indispensable. The only reason I give the "features" rating 4 stars is that it would be nice to not have to run SizzlingKeys simultaneously to have my PowerMate control playback system-wide. [alert admin]

Decor 3.0.4 (Mac OS 9)
It was a great app, and I used it for many years, even before the MacOS supported desktop pics itself. But it is unnecesary in OS X, since OS X supports auto-desktop pictures already. In fact, I have pics of my family, and it crossfades from pic to pic every 5 seconds. However, the developer's site is still a great source of pics. I would still reccomend its use in anything prior to OS X, though. [alert admin]

iChat Enhancer 1.2 (Mac OS X)
spellcheck has nothing to do with iChat; it works in all Cocoa apps, as it is a "Service." [alert admin]

PakRat 1.0b (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
be a joke, since this program requires MacOS 8.6 or higher, and 68k machines only support up to 8.1 [alert admin]

Power Windows 2.4.5 (Mac OS 9)
AWESOME. It adds that touch of sophistication to using OS 9 on my G4 Cube. Choppy? not on my machine... anyway I think the translucent Menus is the best feature. [alert admin]

Internet Explorer is not a Mac browser. Microsoft stopped updating it for us back at v. 5.2 or so. So the first third of your essay on why you love Opera has no relevance in the Mac part of this site. Two great browsers, the most popular two on the Mac AFAIK, have most if not all of the features you discuss at great length. Tabbed browsing? Safari: check. Firefox: check. Saving sessions I believe was recently…
