GeekTool 2.1.2 (Mac OS X)
If you run most of the time on Leopard as non-admin neither Geektool or MKconsole can show you /var/log/system.log because of lack of permissions. Somehow Console.app manages to in "Log Database Queries" but NOT directly. Is any of this registering with anyone? I am torn between thinking you should not have routine access to system.log as a regular user, but I also need to see it, so for convenience I would like to solve this. [alert admin]

Groupcal 3.94 (Mac OS X)
No dates on KB articles (convenient for them) Stated Q1-08 Leopard support and no word yet as of 3/14/08 Stated Exchange 2007 support possible Q4-07 and no word yet As bad as we need Exchange support this company looks to be a bad idea to deal with. [alert admin]

Missing Sync for iPhone 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I crossgraded from MissingSync Palm since I moved from Treo to iPhone. I'm pretty confused how they justify the cost of this product. For all it does I would say it should be free until Apple releases the Dev kit and this thing can actually do something useful. I accomplished my data migration without using this so now it's not much use at all. Even the notes sync is one way from phone to desktop. This is really the opposite of what you need. All I can say is if they manage to make it useful some day it had better be a free upgrade. [alert admin]

Xfolders 1.3.1 (Mac OS X)
The toolbar does not support drag&drop either for adding items or dropping on existing ones. The copy/move confirmation cannot be turned off. The refresh behavior can make the whole point of this application pretty worthless. Sometimes operations just fail and other times it works but never refreshes. Alt+drag copy operations seem to always fail. There is no Alt+Command+drag make alias function. Columns are resizable but not configurable. There is no option to show POSIX permissions in columns. Getinfo panel is unintuitive. I deleted Xfolders from my system. [alert admin]

For what it's worth the scuttlebutt is that since EMC2 acquired Retrospect they have pretty much given up on everything but their bread and butter, which is Retrospect Express. Too bad since the alternatives are all either too expensive or too hard to manage or both. They are shipping Express on pretty much every One Touch Backup product available. [alert admin]

Opera 8.0b1 (Mac OS X)
I'm glad it supports x.509 certs. Too bad it can't share them with Safari and Mail.app in the Keychain. Of course the same could be said for Firefox, *zilla, etc. I LOVE the fact you can drag the tab sequence around at will. It doesn't import bookmarks for you from Firefox on first launch or even prompt to do so. Graphics are a bit primitive looking in my opinion. No way is it a pay worthy product at this point. Adobe Reader 7.0.0 (Mac OS X)
The markup tools have finally been added back into Reader. On the other hand none of the documents I marked up with version 5 can be marked up or modified. I can only see my existing comments. None can be added or changed. I suppose Adobe will force us to have a gazillion dollar Windoze ONLY server someplace to even create PDF that has commenting enabled. F___ them, we will find another method before we do that. [alert admin]

Anyone who takes this attitude about legitimate reasons for copying DVD's obviously has not spent hundreds of dollars replacing damaged disks because their kids destroyed them. --Loser

Ooops, I had never added the unstable tree to my Fink setup the last time I installed Panther. Looks like gnucash is there so maybae it's not as bleak as I thought. Sorry for the negative feedback.

GNUCash looks very interesting, but judging by the incredible list of dependencies most Mac folk will never figure out how to install it.

Trashed prefs and now it launches, but since it ties to a certain Mac and my employer upgraded me 2 weeks ago it fails to register. This dance gets very tedious. This is a sure way to drive customers away.

The file is on Easynews, so go to the Developer site link first to bypass the dead link.
