muCommander 0.8 (Mac OS X)

Speed is Ok

Referring to my previous rewiev I confirm that speed of applicatio is good enough to work with. I've done a data sort-out for 60Gb quite quickly. I am missing compare folders feature like it is working in the FAR for Windows. Beside this still I recommend muCommander as a good tool. In general I like the keyboard navigation, short-cuts, preview feature. As improvement I'll recommend to work out proper behavior of application with app folder which in fact is the Mac application. I would like to run application instead of going inside of the folder. Can you implement this simple trick? Sergey. [alert admin]

muCommander 0.8 (Mac OS X)

I like it

Hi Folks, I just started to use muCommander and found it really good. I am a switcher and I familiar with a many of PC analogues, so muCommander something like betwean Midnight commander for Linux and Total commander for Windows. I can not talk about speed performance of the tool yet (it is java based) but for me it was acceptable when I was dealing with ftp upload/download. Also I did not loked for documentation/Support, so I will specify Neutral rating fot this. Concerning the Features. This tool gives you a lot of them to work with. In my case tool was stable, but I will not give the excelent rate on this subject due to short time use of the tool Overall: Those of you who are familiar with *nix filesystem structure will find this tool really usefull. Fan Control 1.2 (Mac OS X)

It is good

Before taking decision to buy MacBook Pro I was browsing forums to get familiar of what shell I expect from this piece of HiTech.
Moustly I get the message that MBP is getting quite hot. The reason for this was named that manufacturer have defined big treshold before fan starting works. To adjust this was recomended to use Fan Control.
I would say that this is moustly true if you are loading your Mac quite highly. In case you are doing some web surfing or documents/spreadsheets editing it is Ok to use default manufacturer settings.
Please keep in mind that Fan eats you battery :)
In general Fan Control is small, nice and working software. If you know what you are doing you'll find it really usefull.

NeoOffice 2.1 patch 6 (Mac OS X)

Freeware

Hi guys, I did try yet patch 6 for the NeoOffice 2.1 so please have in mind that all below is related to patch 5 I have bought my Mac since a month ago. One of the issues I have to sort out is to find apropriate spreadsheet, presentation, and text processor applications to work. So I have looked at * MS Office @ MAC - Trial * Open Office * Neo Office In the same time I have checked Pages and Keynote from the iWork '06 packadge My target was to find a freeware replacement as I am not able to pay $$$ for the commercial product now. Neo office fits better than others to cover my needs and its greate that it is freeware. May be in future I will change my feets to Open Office, but this will not happed before they fully migrate to apple native (I do not want to use X11) Up tho this point was good about Neo office and now I would like to add some critic. It runs pretty slow when you are starting the application ( I have a brand new MacBook Pro 2007) * NeoOffice - Calc: - PC files may lost their formatting (I have this in pivot tables and graphs build up over them) - keyboard shortcuts I learned by heart on PC do not works here (or at least I did not found them yet) * Conclusion: Disregardeing minor bugs and my PC oriented behavior I did not found better replacement of PC MS Excel application for the Mac *NeoOffice - Impress - presentation created on PC is _REAL-L-L-LY_SLOW-W-W-W-W_ in full screen presentation display mode. It looks like rendering module is having a BUG * Conclusion: Instead of using Impress I will reomend you to use iWork'06 - Pages which are really fast flying and also supports all MS PowerPoint features (sorry to say but it is not freeware) NeoOffice - Writer - I do not used this part of the product a lot so I did not found nothing special . PC files he opens smoothly. * Conclusion: I do not have enought time to use tis app to make a conclusion yet. In the same time I liked built in Text Regards, Serhij [alert admin]
