UTC Display X 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)

It's possible to Quit UTC Display when hiding Dock Icon

As I indicated in my reply to siriusfox1 (below), most of UTC Display's functionality is still available, even without the dock icon visible. It's all in the .pdf User Guide, but I thought I'd also post it here:

Here's a quick listing of clicks in the Screen Corner Displays:

OPTION + SHIFT + CLICK = Quit UTC Display
OPTION + CLICK = Open Preferences Window
SHIFT + CLICK = Momentarily display date
CONTROL + SHIFT + CLICK = Copy time to the clipboard
CONTROL + OPTION + SHIFT + CLICK = Append another time to the clipboard

'Hope that helps!

Net Monitor 4.0.0b1 (Mac OS X)

Works and Looks Great

Those that compare NetMonitor to MenuMeters ar, IMHO, ignoring aesthetics. NetMonitor can be configured to be simply beautiful in your menu bar. I have a wide bar graph display with fade out and transparency, and it looks like it was designed to be part of Mac OS X, while being very functional.

I also use MenuMeters for some of its other functions, but its network graphing can't come close to NetMonitor's. I recommend NetMonitor highly. [alert admin]

UTC Display X 1.3.5 (Mac OS X)

Shadow Preference Coming

Good point on the shadow preference. I had so many complaints about the window shadowing, I just removed it thinking that this is what most people wanted -- it certainly looks less obtrusive. But choice is good, and I'll get to work making the OS X shadowing a Mac OS X preference within the next day or two. [alert admin]

UTC Display X 1.3.3 (Mac OS X)

Please Read This!

From the developer: My web hoster had the MIME types set wrong for the new .sitx archive type, but only for about an hour. I would recommend that the below two posters re-download, and use the absolute LATEST version of Stuffit Expander (10.0.1) to decompress the archive. You should have no problems then. -- Steve [alert admin]

ScopeDriver Classic 2.3.1a2 (Mac OS 9)

It's free to try

Counterpoint: ScopeDriver is free to try for 30 days (beta or release), and if you need more time, you can request a demo extension from within ScopeDriver. I customarily make the betas available to everyone, and if you're having crashes, I wish you'd let me know. -- Steve [alert admin]

Linksys befsr41/befsr11/befsru31 1.45.11 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Browser Update Worked for Me

Using Safari and the built-in firmware updater (accessed via the "Help" tab and the "Update Firmware" link in the configuration pages), I was able to update to 1.45.11 with no issues. I had to reset my password and DHCP settings, but -- as others have noted -- this took only a few seconds. [alert admin]

Monkeybread REALbasic plugin 4.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Outstanding Customer Service

I asked the developer of this plugin whether it could handle a specific task, and he promptly replied that he thought it could. I immediately purchased a license. Minutes later, I received another message from Christian that he had done some research and some testing that revealed that the plugin could not, unfortunately, do what I needed on the Windows platform. He promptly refunded my money (even though he loses money on the deal) within hours of my e-mail. This is excellent customer support! Many other companies would have made it a lot harder to resolve the problem. [alert admin]

Canon Remote Capture X 2.7.3 (Mac OS X)

Works Great

This software works great with my Canon Powershot G3. It's great that Canon offers such useful, cross-platform support software. Remote Capture is especially good for remote image capture when using a wireless Mac. [alert admin]

ScopeDriver 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Regarding Celestrons

From the author: I was planning Celestron support up until a few months ago. Celestron's published serial port command set does not support many of ScopeDriver's basic features. Consequently, ScopeDriver's feature set would be greatly reduced when used with a Celestron. The general consensus of a number of Celestron owners was that Celestron support would probably not be worth the effort, given the resulting small feature set. Sorry! [alert admin]

DarkAdapted X 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Tip for mrtew

From the author: If gammas aren't restoring on relaunch, try deleting your DarkAdapted Preferences file from your Preferences Folder. Also, you can make the Main Window pretty small by deselecting the "Show More Detail" checkbox. Or simply hide the app in the background by option-clicking the desktop. -- Steve [alert admin]

Doesn't work with PowerBook G4

From the developer: ScopeDriver is in use on many Powerbook G4 machines, so something else must be wrong. The usual culprit is the wrong type of cable between the USB-to-serial adapter and the telescope. And "modem" appears in the Connect dialog because all serial ports are listed there, and your modem is a serial device. I encourage you to contact me directly if you are having connection issues. They are generally very easy to solve. Steve

I'd recommend ....

From the Developer: DarkAdapted is free, too, unless you need the Pro features. And the free version of DarkAdapted offers far more functionality than rgGamma (the program to which you linked). This app is 8 MB because it's a Universal Binary. There's quite a lot packed into that 4 MB executable, if you need it. And if you don't need it, you don't need it. :-) -- Steve

AN update every other day-

From the Developer: Yes, there were several final candidates that came out in rapid succession, and I have been busy! :-) I wanted to make some last-minute enhancements to DarkAdapted, and I wanted to give people a chance to try those out. Now that 2.1 has gone final, I can relax a little bit. :-) -- Steve

Re: Try freeware instead.

DarkAdapted *is* freeware. The Pro version costs $10 because it represents a substantial investment in additional development tools, and, of course, time. DarkAdapted will always remain freeware, and I'll always continue adding free functionality to the application. Those who requested additional functionality, such as gamma fade scheduling, were willing to pay the small fee for the time it took to develop the Pro feature set. -- Steve

Presto! PageManager 2.31.05

"Trash" seems a little harsh. My iMac (1999 vintage) came with PageManager 2.31.05 bundled on it and this has worked fine until now. Recently I had to replace the hard drive and since then, when I've tried to open the Astra 2200 scanner via PageManager I get an error "Plugin error at preparation". I can still use the scanner via Train acquire in PhotoShop, but that only lets me scan pictures, now text characters, Any…

Presto! PageManager 2.31.05

"Trash" seems a little harsh. My iMac (bought in summer 1999 and still going, albeit slowly) came with PageManager 2.31.05 bundled, and it has worked fine until now. Recently I had a hard disk fail on me, and had a replacement installed. Fortunately the people who did it were able to retrive an image of all my data from the old disk and load it on the new one. However, since then, when I've gone…
