Apple Java Update 1.4.2 Update 2 (Mac OS X)

This sorry "update" has prevented me from retrieving messages with Mail 1.2.11 on both my G# and G4 12" laptop. I have resrted to using Entourage 2004 - a program I don't like. Why does Apple release software without testing? [alert admin]
