Storyspace 2.0.3 (Mac OS 9)

Storyspace 2 is…

terrific. I use it more and more (and I already used Storyspace 1 a lot!) for my writing and project management, and find it completely stable and much easier to work with and get around in. And the manual is exemplary -- the only really useful implementation of PDF I've ever seen. Apart from stability, Storyspace 2's new interface is the biggest improvement, in my opinion. Locating, viewing, and navigating within a complex hypertext is much more sensible now, and I got up to speed with the new way of doing things very quickly. The only thing I *really* miss is the ability to select more than one object at a time. This is essential for building complex web sites with lots of pages and the like. Especially at the early stages of structuring a hypertext, you need to be able to shift around large clusters of writing spaces. And color coding, which is the quickest way I've found to categorize nodes visually, is pretty laborious. There are also a few things that need to be fixed. * When saving or quitting the program, Storyspace reorders the windows -- which sometimes makes it difficult to remember where you left off. * The new text editor works a *lot* better than the old one did, but it scrolls weirdly when creating a text link, or when saving while composing or editing. * Pasted-in (.jpg) graphics sometimes disappear when you save the file. Despite these minor complaints, I'm really impressed with and grateful for the new Storyspace -- long may it wave! [alert admin]
